Sentara Leigh Hospital

I had the BEST Labor and Delivery experience at Sentara Leigh. I was scheduled for an induction at 40 weeks 5 days. From checking in with the front desk staff to the check out process, everyone was very friendly and accommodating. I begin my induction process with the overnight RN Quinessa (spelling?). She was nothing short of amazing. She checked on me and my husband constantly and made sure I was comfortable. She always let me know what she was doing and the next steps of my labor process. She was my nurse for two nights and was there for the delivery of our baby girl. I am so grateful for her level of care during the most vulnerable time of my life. I then moved to my recovery suite where I met my RN Kisha. When I say sweet as pie! She is so sweet. She helped me so much. From tips and tricks for me as a first time mom, to making sure my pain management meds came on time like clockwork. She constantly checked on me and my husband to see if we needed anything. She also gave my baby girl her first bath and showed me how to bathe her. She was my RN for the two days I stayed after delivery. I felt like she was family in that short amount of time just because of how warm and friendly she is. I asked her if I could give her a hug when we said goodbye at my car. I had the best experience and it was completely due to all the medical staff at Sentara Leigh. Everyone seemed as if they truly loved their jobs and the level of care reflects that.

I had to visit this hospital to get labs. I was absolutely enthralled when I walked inside and saw the modern interior of the front lobby. I was greeted with a smile and helped by the polite front desk staff. I was helped by Billy and he told me exactly where I needed to go for registration. When I went to the registration desk I was held by another Sentara employee who was nice and also funny. The lab tech who did my labs was also very personable and I was in an out quickly. Overall, it was a pain free (minus the stick) experience. I appreciate the promptness and effectiveness of the staff as I am currently on my honeymoon and didn’t want to spend more time than needed at a hospital!

ICU staff, along with all other staff I had interactions with, were amazing. My father just passed after almost a month in ICU, with us travelling from Australia to be by his side, and we took comfort he was in such a professional and caring environment to spend his final weeks and days.

After a very trying day of my husband needing surgery I forgot to leave his reading glasses. I called gift shop to see if I could send a pair up to his room. I spoke with Tina and Wanda both of which were the most compassionate caring individuals. After dealing with a lot all day long it gave me a little lift speaking with them
Also I’d lime to give a shout out to Ray and Odessa in the cafeteria Both of them happy and seem to care and take pride in their job At one point I called out Odessa on the coffee being cold After realizing I poured out iced tea, Odessa was so gracious and I so embarassed

I am overflowing with gratitude and admiration for the exceptional care and support my family and I received at Sentera Leigh Hospital. Our recent experience during the birth of our child was nothing short of extraordinary, and it's a testament to the hospital's unwavering commitment to excellence in every category.

Hannah Yorgen, in particular, stood by my bedside during my natural delivery, as a cheerleader and massive motivator in getting our son earthside! When moments of doubt crept in, and I felt like giving up, Hannah was there, unwavering in her support, reminding me that I could do it. Her attentiveness, knowledge, and heartfelt encouragement were instrumental in making the birth experience a triumph. I hope you get to see this review, Hannah, and know how much it meant to us to have you as our RN!

And to Dr. Melanie McDowell at Tidewater Physicians for Women (TWPFW) you are nothing short of a miracle worker. Your willingness to embrace our birth plan and make it a reality made all the difference. Allowing my spouse to pass our child to me, supporting delayed cord clamping, and respecting every detail of our preferences showcased your dedication to providing personalized, compassionate care.

In every aspect, Sentera Leigh and TWPFW surpassed our expectations. The staff, the facilities, and the unwavering commitment to honoring our birth preferences left an indelible mark on our hearts. We are forever grateful for this incredible journey, and we wholeheartedly recommend this location to anyone seeking a hospital and care team that not only follows birth preferences but does so with excellence, compassion, and a deep respect for the uniqueness of every family's story. We had to go to the ER and my husband was not feeling well. Every person was very polite the registration, the lady in purple scrubs who brought him back and the nurse. The doctor was very kind and had good bedside manner. My husband mentioned even the lady at the CT scan was very kind.We are very appreciative for such healthcare workers.

I just started working here about 5 months ago as an AA for the surgical unit. I never worked in a place with such passionate and friendly employees. All staff are passionate and truly care about positive patient experience.

I had to get an X-ray today and was really having a down in dumps type of day. That was until I was warmly greeted by Vanessa at the registration desk, she was in window #1 and I hope that is her name. She was so kind and greeted me and although our transaction was short, she made me feel better with just friendly convo.

So my Sunday started off like any other Sunday, woke up, jumped in the shower and brushed my teeth. But when I rinsed out my mouth I noticed I was spitting weird, like when your Mouth is numb from a novocaine shot at the dentist. Honestly didn’t think anything of it. Later that afternoon my wife playing some Pokémon Go, I noticed the left side of mouth wasn’t working and I couldn’t blink my left eye. I was thinking I had a stroke and we decided I better get to the Hospital. I felt fine, so I was confused also. But as soon as I went into the ER the check-in nurse heard what was going on and immediately got me in as she was also thinking Stroke. I got seen checked out and my vitals were all over the place. Oh by the way, I am claustrophobic so when they said CT Scan I was freaking out. But Lindsay, my nurse, Jen the CT Scan nurse got me through it. Talking me through it step by step to keep my mind off what was going on. Also Doctor Z. Shuck was amazing and super nice as well as being a fantastic doctor. I wanted to thank everyone for getting me through a very bad moment in my life, I tried to make sure I thanked and hugged all of them, yeah I am a hugger. Can’t recommend Sentara Leigh enough for getting me through this. Oh yeah, it was not a Stroke, it was Bells Palsy, it is a real thing, look it up! So I am home and feeling much better knowing I can take care of this. If you read all this, thank you and big hugs. Have an awesome life and try to be happy. Tim

I went to the ER last night and
Dr. Landon was amazing! I felt like he actually listened to me and what I was saying and tried to give me long term solutions for my problems. The other staff members were also very helpful and kind during the whole process, thank you everyone for all that you do.

I had a great nursing team working to get me right . The staff made me feel like a person and not just another patience. I left there with my dignity and self respect. The medical field need more medical staff like the team that took care of me . Keep up the good work 👏🏽 🙌🏽 👍 You all were my Hero's !!!

Fast and nice nurses loved everybody was so nice not one single complain I suffer from an illness that requires sometimes strong medications and I’ve been in between hospitals but so far sentara is great ! Thank you !

We were at the mother baby unit my daughter had her baby there last Wednesday and went home later that Thursday and she even had a cessation the staff was amazing they were on top of everything the baby's blood sugar's my daughter's pain meds when she needed them they were super friendly and impressionable The guy who came around to check for her food for the next day or next meal Donald he was super nice lI Even told him that he was just great with the families and the patients

Had my daughter born here was easy and nice. My wife had surgery here 2 weeks after she gave birth, easy and fast as well. Hospitality here is nice !

The care, and customer service from the hospital staff at Leigh was exceptional. My ex husband was very sick and the care he received was top notch. I wished he had been there sooner. I have not had the time to thank them, but would like to take this time letting them know I think about the care they provided him everyday. Thank you so so much and we wish you all a Happy Holiday and a Merry Christmas! I truly wish I could do more for you all who work in this hospital.

My fiancée was admitted here for an out patient surgery. The facility was clean... mask required regardless of vaccination status. The doctors & nursing staff were outstanding in regards to the knowledge and care provided. They were very attentive to him, answering all my questions. The recovery and rooms used were clean and fully operational. I would definitely recommend this hospital to anyone who has medical needs.

Had a great experience with central testing today. I came prepared for a wait but was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I was registered and taken back for my ordered tests. The phlebotomist (Cesmar I believe?) was great at his job - quick painless stick and I was on my way.

Delivered my first child here and had an excellent experience. The staff were all attentive, caring, and hard-working. We are still in awe of Kisha, a nurse we will never forget who helped us in more ways than we can count.

Rooms were adequately sized, food was surprisingly good, staff visit your room at least every 2 hours while you are awake. Highly recommend this hospital for delivery!!

Do ensure you have your guests bring comfort items like pillows and blankets, as the chairs and couches are not terribly comfortable.

Listened well. Took time. Very thorough. Wonderful! He is caring and compassionate. Awesome person!

I and close family members have been patients at Sentara Leigh Hospital numerous times over the years. We have also been patients in the other Sentara hospitals as well as in the non-Sentara hospitals in the area. Leigh is great. The medical care is top notch; the staff is caring and friendly. The facility is well kept. All Sentara hospitals in the area rate 5 stars, but there is a little something about Leigh that gives it a teeny, tiny lead. The Sentara hospitals are all quite a bit better than the non-Sentara hospitals in the area.
