Shut Yo Mouf Soulfood! Everyone's experience is different but, baby this food was everything. I mean everything! The hostess promptly greeted and seated us. Jessica the waitress was pleasant and knowledgeable. The restaurant itself was nice. The FOOD! The food was delicious and plentiful. I have enough for leftovers. This was a wonderful meal for my mother's birthday and she loved the food. We will definitely return.

The food was amazing!! The server, the cook and the atmosphere were fantastic! This will be my spot to eat whenever I’m in the area. We highly recommend that you try it out for yourself!!

We are from Chicago dropping our daughter off to begin her freshman year at VSU. The food was excellent as was the service and the Arthur Ashe was soooo delicious! The lemon cake was a disappointment...seems store bought....but the food was so good! Fair warning....the chicken and waffles came with tenders not whole pieces of chicken.

I was with a with of group of ladies that sopped in during lunch as part of a Birthday Celebration 🎉. We were greeted by the owner very sweet lady. Our server was Jessica. She promptly got our orders! Food came out hot and well seasoned. Reminded me of home. I got the SYM Wing dinner 🤗😋. Oh I forgot about the cornbread 🫶😋. I will definitely be coming back.

This place was such an amazing experience & family friendly as well ! I had went here for my best friend’s graduation dinner & she was telling me how the food here is amazing so she recommended us & her family to try this place out after her graduation ceremony was over.

The food was freshly cooked , you can tell that they do it with love & well seasoned. The prices does match the amount of food that you’re getting & it’s very reasonable. The owner checked up on us making sure we are satisfied which we appreciate that & the staff was very friendly as well acknowledging all of us .

Right across the restaurant was a mural with boats which you can take pics as well :)

The name explains it all! From the first bite you won’t be doing any talking, because you’ll be busy enjoying good flavorful food. The chicken wings were delectable! So good that I want to know what they used to season it. They have great sides as well! Good Mac n Cheese, collards, and yams. Beautiful dining area, great atmosphere, great food.

Walking in, I love the decor and atmosphere! It's like eating at Auntie house, it's pretty in there and it smell so good! We were first family to arrive. Everything was hot and ready. Sunday morning brunch was good!

We stumbled upon this restaurant last minute and decided to visit because we wanted some soul food (and because of the Google reviews already posted) and baby Shut Yo Mouf delivered some of the best soul food that I've tasted (aside from my own) in the Tri City, VA area.

Here is what I experienced
The restaurant is filled with tchotchkes and the sound of r&b music. It's like having dinner at your favorite great auntie's house.
We (a part of 4) got there about 2 hours before closing and were seated within 15 minutes of arriving.

The greeter/waiter was very nice and accommodating. The food came out HOT and delicious. I originally ordered yams and macaroni and cheese with my fish but they ran out of yams which tells me that the yams are either THE BOMB or they didn't make enough to last the full day. Nevertheless I forged forward and ordered the cabbage. Y'all the cabbage was sooo yummy but macaroni and cheese was just okay. It was cheesy and had a decent flavor but, it wasn't that southern macaroni and cheese baked in the oven that comes out with a little bit of charred cheese on top!!! Y'all know what I'm talking about 🤤!

Anyway the CORN BREAD.... OOOOH MY GOODNESS! The cook understood the assignment oh yes they did! Absolutely delicious.

Lastly this restaurant is affordable. My dish was less than $20 and the portions are satisfying.

One thing to keep in mind as with some other local restaurants they do charge an automatic 18% for dine-in service but the customer service is on period so its warranted.

I plan on visiting again.

Oh! My! God!!! I’d been wanting to go here for a while and I finally made it in today and I was not disappointed! I was really hungry so I was on the see-food diet. Got the dinner size chicken and waffles plus the veggie plate with mac n cheese, yams and greens. My companion got the lunch size chicken and waffles plus the veggie plate with potato salad instead of mac n cheese. We tasted each other’s and wanted our own so we both ended up with 4 sides each. Super yum! Everything was very well seasoned and so tasty! I can’t wait to eat here again.

EDIT*** Went back again today 1/4/21 with my friends and they found out I was not exaggerating when I said the food is FIRE!!! So yum! We’ll be back again. Everything was chef’s kiss!!!

I don't give many reviews but I had to for shut yo mouf. Exceeded everyone of my expectations. Had mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, greens, cabbage, rice, and smothered pork chops. Delicious every bite. Had to roll me outta there afterwards. Hostesses never let my drink get close to empty. Price was also very reasonable in fact I'd even be willing to pay more for food this good. Give them you business and time and they'll do you right. Will be making this a mandatory stop in my future visits to Virginia.

Been in the area for about a year and recently discovered this place. When I tell you their food is EVERYTHING, I PROMISE you it is! We travel about 30 mins to obtain such tasty food! Nothing is overly seasoned, but everything is so flavorful! I love their meatloaf! The last one was not the best last week, but overall, I will continue buying from them!! It’s so filling! The cornbreaddddd! LAWD, it just tops off the MEAL!!! I wish they could sell turkey chops! I would just pack my things and live outside their door! Haha! Seriously though, hands down, the best soul food spot I’ve ever tasted! Keep up the great job guys!!!!

The server, Ms. Jay was AMAZING. The owner was so very helpful and answered all our questions. The room was clean and bright, and the server was always on time when we needed her. It’s a family owned business. Nothing but great energy an great food. I had to make sure I got an extra plate to go. We will be coming back!”

The best BBQ pork ribs EVER! Melt in your mouf! Fall off the bone! Their homemade BBQ sauce is sweet & thick! Really sweet & cinnamon-y yams….more like a dessert, totally addictive! Great mac & cheese too!!!!

We were on a road trip and decided to stop by here for dinner.
Do you ever dance around in your chair when your food is so good you gotta move? Me too! The beautiful souls at Shut Yo Mouf restaurant can definitely throw down in the kitchen! I had the fried whiting fish dinner with greens, mac and cheese and cornbread. SLAPS! The fish was perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, flaky and tender on the inside. Greens were tender and seasoned with meat, check. Mac and cheese was the best I’ve had in a long time. If you’re ever in Petersburg VA. do yourself a flavor and get some.

What a great find! I came into town for just one night and found this fantastic restaurant. The name drew me immediately and I was pleased to find the atmosphere, service and food were just as fabulous!

Amazing food. Great service. They explained it was only one cook there that day and it did not feel that way because our food came out in a decent time. Sweet tea amazing. My parents loved their lemonade and food as well.

What a wonderful little place to discover with my adult daughter! I had the fried fish dinner, 2 piece and believe me I could not eat a bite more! Served with their potato salad and yams. Everything was beyond my expectations! The best yet was their cornbread and brewed sweet tea. You best believe it was time to shut your mouf and eat. Will definitely be adding this to my favorite dining place. My daughter had the sym platter with collard greens and cabbage. Needless to say we didn't talk much while we devoured the goodness.

This was my first time visiting and the food was absolutely amazing. We had their chicken, whiting, macaroni and cheese, cabbage, yams and collard greens with cornbread. Everything was delicious.

These are my customers and as a Petersburg Family Dollar store manager, it's give me great pleasure to support my business partners and this family owned and operated business. They are the best, professional and gives your the inviting environment to want to come back. Sundays they have alcarte buffet, great lunch and dinner that's over worth it's value. The venue is well decorated, inviting, professional staff, fresh food that makes you want to order again just because its that good. I will continually support great service, good people and they will see me and my staff again sooner than they know as they are great for the Petersburg community and very much a place that's needed in my neck of the woods of Richmond.
