Lakewood Forest Preserve Winter Sports Area

An absolutely beautiful forest preserve. Perfect for mountain/hybrid biking and trail running or hiking. The trails are mostly fine gravel, very wide, and well maintained. Horses frequently come through and the droppings are quickly cleaned up. Restrooms are nice and clean. I have come here for many years and will continue to do so.

Took a gravel ride north. Very simple path.

Beautiful forest preserve however be aware about belonging in your car. My car and few others were smashed few months ago 😔

Well maintained trails, super pretty, and lots of wild life. Let's put if this way for people still reading, you can take a stroller anywhere on the trails no problem and it isn't like the kids will be bouncing around like their off roading.

The trails are kept clean and the views are nice! Dogs are allowed but need to be on leash, you may occasionally see horses.

Beautiful park, wide well maintained trails. Hills and lakes with public toilets.

Great hiking trails. Very easy. Clean!

Great trail for cross country skiing. They groom it after it snows and the trail is huge and goes for a fairly long distance. Good parking lot and it’s fairly clear where you have to go to park and everything

Nice well groomed trails for x country ski when there is enough snow! Great sledding hill as well.

Paved and gravel paths. Great to walk, run, bike, or horseback ride! Lots of inclines, so be aware of that.

The hill to sled on is a good size but the walk back up can be kind of tiring. The area is real ice and the skating area is pretty spacious. There are restrooms near the 2 areas so that's a plus especially when you have little ones.

Great park for winter activities. Right beside the big parking lot are a ice skating rink and a big sledding hill. Everything is very convenient. We went Cross country skiing. About 4 miles are groomed for skiing going through a mixture of wooded areas, lakes and prairie. Very scenic. we will be back with the children next time and do multiple winter activities. One mile loop is lighted and closes later, around 9 pm I believe.
I really recommend this park for anyone wanting to enjoy the outdoors during winter.

Great forest preserve with wide trails. A little bit hilly for running, but if somebody needs hill training, there is sledding hill that can be used. Nice shadow for the hot summer. Recommend.

Nice short loop trail. Several others trails as well but did not walk those. Clean and well taken care of.

Great park for cross country skiing

The best cross country place we've been that's within driving distance of the city! Tons of trails and rolling hills that were super fun and easy to climb.

Great forest preserve for running, biking or walking. I took my whole family here for a great bike ride. The trails were well maintained and the scenery is great!!

Such a lovely trail to walk and catch up with friends. It's even nice for a dog walk, on leash. Gravel trails and native plants abound.

Love coming here. Never really crowded. Sometimes it feels you have the whole place to yourself. When you do run into others they're usually friendly.
