Nestled in the heart of Midway, Workhorse Coffee Bar proved to be a hidden gem awaiting discovery. My daughter and I stumbled upon this quaint establishment on a crisp morning, seeking respite from the bustling streets outside. What we found exceeded our expectations and left us longing for more.

Upon entering, we were greeted by the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the inviting warmth of the cozy interior. The ambiance was a harmonious blend of modern chic and rustic charm, with exposed brick walls adorned with local artwork, complemented by the soft glow of pendant lights hanging from the ceiling.

As we approached the counter, we were met with friendly smiles from the baristas, whose passion for their craft was evident in every cup they served. After perusing the menu, we decided to indulge in some breakfast bites to accompany our coffee. The selection was diverse, featuring both sweet and savory options crafted with care using locally sourced ingredients.

I opted for the chocolate cookie, a masterpiece of simplicity and flavor. My daughter grabbed a gluten free cookie that made her smile light up the room.

my partner and I visited on a Sunday. It was quiet but very clean with good vibes. Also, the baristas freaking rocked! Greeted us as we arrived, had great recommendations and made some killer drinks. :) very grateful for this experience!! Highly recommend !!

Here’s an odd review. Cappuccinos served in paper cups usually don’t taste very good…. but mine was surprisingly good. Creamy and delicious. I’ll be back for another. Not your every day coffee shop. It has a strong current of natural character running through it without seeming to try too hard. It just is. Parking is on the street, and is a little less than easy in the winter.

I stopped by on a weekend to grab a snack between showing homes and an open house in the area (local Realtor here!) The chai was delicious! And the quiche really filled me up after a busy morning.

Cute little coffee shop with an industrial feel. They make their own chai tea as opposed to out of a jug which I appreciated limited interaction with the staff, but they were friendly. I also really enjoyed the chocolate chip banana muffin!

I would sell my soul for this coffee shop. The staff is always so nice and it’s never too crowded and the quiche is also super good!! I always recommend this place to anybody looking for a good coffee shop! Xoxo - the girls and the toddler with iced oat milk vanilla lattes

literally my favorite cafe. i would gatekeep but they are very cool. staff is super friendly and helpful. willing to talk through orders with you and make adjustments. good selection of pastries and the best iced vanilla latte with oatmilk i have ever had. it lives up to its name as well, big tables perfect for studying at and a great playlist to go with it. there is a record store around the corner and a great mediterranean place across the street. truly a gem of a place. right on the 63 too so very accessible

LOVELY place with a killer oat milk lavender latte, came here with my partner 🏳‍🌈 and we had a wonderful time :)) Very nice atmosphere, very queer vibes, lovely staff, one million out of 10 stars (plus no charge for oat milk??? 🌱whhaat 🫡🫡🤩)

You must try this place out!!! I read the reviews before and noticed comments about the service being great. Well, that is an understatement. I have genuinely never gotten service like this. I couldn’t have the raw honey in the chai they make in house (huge plus already) so the barista/owner(?) made me a special custom drink from scratch, with so much joy! The drinks are incredible. The bagels are from St Paul Bagelry which is awesome.

Great indie coffee shop! My au lait and pumpkin muffin were both delicious. Service was friendly and timely.
The cafe was fairly full when I visited, but my drink came out by the time I settled into my seat. It seems to be a popular neighborhood joint for morning coffee and short meetups.
Chill atmosphere - Everyone seemed happy to slow down and enjoy their day.
Parking - street parking around the corner, but it's right on the train line.
Restroom - Single-stall, All-Gender restroom. Clean and tidy.

Workhorse Coffee is an awesome, independently owned cafe. The owner is fantastic. The coffee (and chai lattes) is delicious. They have a variety of baked goods and breakfast foods fresh daily. But most of all, the staff genuinely wants to get to know you, and to point out fun things to try. During the pandemic, they've made safety a priority and I feel safe entering their store. Highly recommend!

Update May 2022: This has become a go-to place for me. The atmosphere is chill and the food is always delicious.

Workhorse is a great place for a yummy drink. Very considerate and kind staff. The spinach feta croissant is very yummy, and the maple yogurt granola is off the charts. Great music selection, and it's played at a nice level so if you need to get work done, or have a conversation you can. There's a great place for kids to hang out as well. Oh and be sure to check out the exhibit at The Smallest Museum in St. Paul located just outside the door!

When your barista has been doing it for 30 years you get next level quality! Breve Flat White was perfect, along with the other drinks we ordered! 🙌🎉💯✅

Excellent espresso based coffee and good teas. Good environment to work, free wifi. My latte was delicious, flavorful with hints of chocolate and sweetness, excellent milk steaming & pour. Partner's London fog was good. Edible snacks could be better. Come here to study with good coffee.

Is a leviathan in an otherwise mediocre Twin Cities coffee shop landscape. Excellent coffee and friendly staff in a convenient location.

This place, at first has a kind of hipster vibe, but I think it's a local gem in disguise. The owner is a wonderful woman who gives everyone the extra time and effort without being bothersome or fake. The coffee is delicious, and the syrups are high shelf products.

Best coffee shop in town. Regular stop for great vegan cookies and great coffee and even better baristas. Also ask the owner about her motorcycles!

Their veggie quiche makes me want to come back for breakfast every day of the month! Plus, good coffee, friendly staff, and a chill place to get work done.

Stopped by to grab a coffee for the first time at this coffee shop, the cashier was super sweet and bubbly. I didn’t catch her name, but she was great. I asked for recommendations, and she gave me a list of ideas based on my coffee drinking preferences. I got a mocha with lavender which was oh so good. Really pleasant experience!

I've been visiting Workhorse for about three years now. On Saturday mornings it is the start to my weekend. The staff are friendly, I love seeing the same people every weekend, and Tye (one of the owners) is passionate about serving a locally-sourced roast that provides consistently smooth beverages.

Every latte has a pattern/design poured into it, espresso is served with a high degree of authenticity, and a variety of non-coffee and food items are stocked from local vendors.

One particular item of note is the mini-museum and kids' nook. These features provide families with a place to enjoy their morning while keeping young ones quiet and engaged in activity (toys and art supplies).

Seating is a mix of tall-top large tables with 7 seats and low-top tables that seat two. There is a work table against the wall by the unisex bathroom that has a few extra seats. It may look crowded when busy but regular patrons are comfortable sharing a large table with others.
