Lovely, well-lit eating space where great breakfast and lunch food is served. Pleasant indoor and outdoor seating. Workers are very friendly. Favorite chicken and waffles I've found so far out of any city. Chicken biscuits are awesome. Get the sweet potato fries and thank me later. No wifi is unfortunate, but nice for some peaceful dining. Definitely worth the visits and revisits. Easily my favorite Minneapolis breakfast spot.

As an avid supporter of North Minneapolis and Black-owned businesses, I will not stop recommending this place. It is all around excellent in every way possible. I strongly recommend the savory dry rub chicken, the blackened shrimp and grits, and the veggie burger. Granted I did not have every single dish, but those three I have had, and they are just outstanding. When I ordered, I did such over the phone because I had a $75 budget I had to spend using the corporate card. Because of the affordable prices Breaking Bread had, I ordered A LOT of food. The person at the counter was exceptional at not only listening to my order over the phone, but also making sure the ones who were dining in were serviced. I left her a $20 tip in cash because of how great she was. The receipt said her name was Monica W. They were out of desserts when I was ordering, so the next time I visit, whether it is take out again or dining in, I will try their dessert as well as some of the dishes I have not had yet! Highly recommend!

Breaking Bread Cafe is both a great restaurant and a driving force for social change. They partner with Appetite for Change, a nonprofit, and strive to feed the community. I ordered the chicken and waffles (restaurant special). Absolutely incredible! Juicy and spicy fried chicken sitting on top of a fluffy and sweet Belgian waffle. Easily the best chicken and waffles I’ve ever had. I also ordered the lunch special with bbq brisket, cheesy mac, and black eyed peas. Tasty classic soul food. The staff were so friendly and passionate about what they do.

I look forward to stopping in again! Great food and a great cause.

I love this place. The food is amazing, the people are warm and fun, and the cause is wonderful. If I'm ever in Minneapolis again, I will be sure to stop in. They even use food grown by youth in neighbourhood gardens.

Love the cool artistic atmosphere in the room. Great food. My wife purchased the “JJ” painting for our home. The paintings are fantastic.

The mission of this place is incredible. The staff were friendly and attentive. I was there for breakfast, I ordered the biscuit egg sandwich with sausage and pepper jack cheese. The biscuit itself was delicious!! I will have to come back soon to try the biscuits with gravy.

Fresh fruit water available to all! I am picky about wings and theirs are really good. Friendly service as well.

Oh my...so yummy! I had the turkey bacon hash with cheese grits! Delicious!! I will definitely be back to try other options.

THE BEST dry rub chicken and its so moist and there’s so much flavor😍😍 the Mac and Cheese is to die for. I’ve also had their shrimp and grits and so far they are the best I’ve tasted in town! Definitely worth traveling for!

Amazing! Break Bread catered our monthly event today at Union Depot in St. Paul. The food was so good. Aaron was on location with us and his staff was just excellent. We highly recommend them for your catering needs and for your taste bud's enjoyment.

Shrimp & Grits is one of my go to comfort foods and they nailed it here!! I’ll be in at least twice a week, I hope they don’t get tired of seeing me!

What a gem in the north side. Good home cooked style meal. I had the chicken and waffles. I am usually skeptic of this dish because it is often not done right. Breaking bread nailed it. Freshly fried chicken and their signature waffles. Another item we had was the shrimp and grits. This is another one that is often done incorrectly. Again nailed it here. Grits were cooked perfectly and were nice and creamy but not runny. Add a side of collards like grandma used to make, you won't regret.

I've stopped in a few times for lunch. Each time the service has been excellent. Although I've ordered the same thing each time (fried chicken, greens, and black-eyed peas) the food has been great. I'll keep popping in to check out the rest of the menu.

I stumbled upon this place randomly and boy, was I glad that I did! The veggie burger and sweet potato fries were fantastic and the ladies working there were exceptionally friendly and helpful (thanks for finding change for my $100, Monica!)
I hope I have an excuse to travel that way again.

Great restaurant, they have the best chicken and waffles when available.
Last time around the chicken could have been cooked a bit longer, but like always great taste.

I have hired Breaking Bread Catering for almost all of my events, conferences, and convenings at Impact Hub MSP and with Global Shapers MPLS. Whether it's a breakfast for 10 or a dinner for 120, the team is incredible, supportive, professional, and always accompanied by delicious grub. The brisket! Oh for the love of brisket. And that's just the beginning. Delicious food + a rockstar team + positive impact in the community = taking the catering game to a whole new level. I highly recommend this crew for any size event or gathering you might have!

K I had a grilled chicken sandwich, which sounds pretty damn basic but it was delicious. The seasoning on the chicken has some kick to it, it was perfectly cooked & not dry, and the bun & everything else on it was super fresh. They have homemade lemonade which sounds wonderful but they also had a big thing of infused water, so I opted for that, which was also wonderful.
