Hammer Lawrence DDS

I was a patient of Dr. Hammer's for many years. He was and is an excellent dentist. What I like about him is that he is fair with his prices. He does not have a big staff so he does not have to charge a lot to pay their salaries. When you call for an appointment you never have to wait long to get one. He is always pleasant and is an excellent dentist.

I have no doubt L. Hammer is a great dentist. My comment is about his ethics, as he performs the work then reveals the pricing. While this is a non-issue for those with insurance coverage, it becomes a financial hardship to those without/ with inadequate coverage - especially for previously working-class senior citizens on a limited social security budget.

I confronted Lawrence about this practice on behalf of my mid-70s parents, and he was very unapologetic to a point where he acknowledged an otherwise lower negotiated insurance rate, but still stood his ground to demand his higher fee.

I can otherwise appreciate his position, but I feel its shameful for a successful dentist of his stature to take advantage of elderly patients on fixed income that just doesn't understand the system.
