Great place to dig through muck and weak slate my group found several trilobites and what looked like armored fish scales

A great place to find fossils, perfect place for a sunny day!

Concept is phenomenal; but it subtracts a bit that the area is under renovation, we didn't find anything, and probably did not go at the best time.

Will definitely return, bringing lunch & planning to spend a couple hours there - eventually we will find some fossils!

PS. Would be nice if e.g. plastic or wood tools were allowed. Our toddler was having fun, but somewhat limited in what they were able to do.

Pretty cool place. Bring tools! You and the kids will leave very dirty. Wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting muddy and dirty.

Tools not allowed. There's basically nothing there except sticky grey mud. Surrounded by trash. Short walking/cycling trail. Not very scenic. Very small. Fossils are of the lowest quality and too fragile for most. Children might be thrilled to play in the mud and find fragments of ancient shells, but for those hoping for a trilobite or cephalopod, go elsewhere. In my thousand mile trip, this was my biggest disappointment. I suppose it has ample parking and good pavement and a newer rail and cement down to the "quarry." Not very busy.

Spent almost 4 hours chipping away at the shale but couldn't find any fossils. This place might have been abundant in fossils a few years back? Now it seems like all fossils have been found and kept by previous visitors, so there aren't any left, or of they are, they're either broken or fragmented enough to be indisguishable. Not worth a visit.
