Charlotte's Cafe

Heard so much about Charlotte’s Cafe and tried it today...was so very pleased. Cozy, quaint decor and atmosphere. Had the Vegetable Lasagna I’ve heard so much about and was delicious along with the side salad and bread...everything is made fresh right there! Friendly staff and great service. Highly Recommend!

This restaurant is definitely one of the best kept secrets of Newport News. I attended a going away dinner for a co-worker and was pleasantly surprised. Instead of playing music from a stereo, they had someone playing the piano. The prices were good, the service was exceptional, the food was amazing and the decor was absolutely beautiful. Just driving by and seeing it from the outside, you truly wouldn't expect for it to be a gem. Perfect example of not judging a book by its cover. I can't wait to return and try something else.

What a hidden gem off Warwick blvd near CNU. Unreal menu. If you want to really impress someone for a reasonable cost this is the place to go. Locally owned..social distancing observed.. quiet, charming.. a well kept secret & i am a local. I had children w/ garlic & spinach on pitta bread

Amazing food, amazing desserts, great atmosphere, fantastic customer service and fun live music on the weekends. VERY CLEAN and in accordance with CDC guidelines. Practices social distancing and mask mandates

I was so happy so happy to find such a warm and intimate restaurant in our area. In the sea of big box, everything, a place like this is a smile to my soul. The food was fresh, carefully prepared and a joy. I didn't eat in today, but I cannot wait to enjoy the ambiance, the art and music with good company and food. I enjoyed the salmon and spinach sandwich so much-tender and buttery with a nice play if seasoning.

Nice, intimate little place with an old world feel. We were a large group (12-15) and kind of overwhelmed the kitchen, but the service was good and the food was excellent. It was Saturday night, and there was live music, not too loud, it was a nice touch. I would absolutely, positively go back.

My friend and I ate there last night. We had Mussels as an appetizer (to die for) and both of us ordered Charlotte's Casserole (Eggplant and cheeses, etc) it was excellent. The salad that came with the meal was garden fresh. Stacey, our waitress was so nice and attentive, very personable. The owner, Lynn, came over to our table and we had a nice chat. They have a great selection of desserts and bakery items. The cafe itself it so comfortable, like going to a friend's home for dinner. I know we'll go back many times, can't wait to take my husband. He loved the leftovers. As word gets out we're going to have to get reservations. We've needed a place like this in Hidenwood and in Newport News. It's well worth the drive. We're lucky we're minutes away.

I went with a friend for lunch last week. I had read a lot of accolades on the Next Door app. So often when you hear great things, the actual experience is a disappointment, so I was a little skeptical. No more!
It was delightful. First, I cannot eat gluten, which makes the lunch menu challenging.....until I read it carefully and asked my waiter if I could get the tilapia with spinach without the bread....and still get the toppings. It came as a beautifully presented plate that tasted even better than it looked. So, the kitchen is not just good, it is flexible.The friend I went with was told to be sure to get the pita bread, as it is made fresh for each sandwich. She said it was outstanding. I can't wait to go back. Truly a great addition to our area!

Undiscovered, unassuming place to eat with great food. Had lunch with 3 girlfriends a few weeks ago. The food was fresh, interesting and satisfying!
The service was new, so maybe a little slow. However, our server was friendly and accommodating. We had a great time.

We stopped here for lunch today on a whim and we’re so glad we did. The food was excellent and the service was wonderful. They were out of items on the menu and brought out a complimentary appetizer of eggplant hummus instead. It was delicious! They even gave us extra to take home. The mahi-mahi with basmati rice was cooked to perfection, the salad was fresh & the homemade balsamic dressing was flavorful. We also had the tilapia and chicken pitas with homemade tzatiki sauce and they didn’t disappoint. We’ll definitely be back!

Food was phenomenal! “Everything we put in our meals was delicious!” The restaurant was out of a few items that we tried to order. The waitress brought out a complementary eggplant dip that was outstanding!

This was a pleasant surprise. The food was very good, and not the same old same old. I tried a pita sandwich with chunks of cod, sautéed spinach and garlic and spectacular roasted potatoes on the side. Hubby had 3-olive tapenade on pita and a bowl of chili. The place was described as Turkish by a friend recommending it to us. Both our entrees (including the chili) had more greens than we expected. The desserts looked magnificent, and there were many paintings that we were told are the work of the chef. They have live music a couple of nights a week. While we were there for a late lunch, a lady came in with lot of questions about the menu, and then played the piano until her food arrived.

Don’t let the outside fool you, the place is lovely! Wonderful family atmosphere, perfect spot for a date. Food was amazing, but it was the owner that had this spot stand out. Will most definitely be back.

The food is very flavorful. I usually get the chicken sautéed with spinach and garlic on the pita they make in-house. The desserts are very good also. Excellent.

Meet owner and the chef. Very nice, made sure everything was to order. Unfortunately found this gem to late as they are closing due to help issues. Great food!

I don't know why this restuarant isn't busier than it is. The food is outstanding. My husband had the shrimp with basmati rice dish and it was the most delicious shrimp dish I have tasted in a long time. We also were given a rice salad as a bonus, which was delightful, but not on the standard menu. If you are near CNU and want something different for dinner or lunch, you should give Charlotte's cafe a try.

The Food has been in our experience to be above the status quo. A nice change from the same old thing . The Chef's has hit his niche. Very flavorful to wake up the taste buds . We will be back AGAIN !

Went to lunch today with some friends and boy was this a surprise find. We tried a variety of food and all of it was great! I'm a bit picky with food and I am somewhat a critic. I decided to give the lamb a try, but I was not expecting it to be as good as it was. Lamb is hard to get right. They not only got it right, they knocked it out of the park! We can't wait to go back and try more!

My husband and I had a lovely lunch last weekend for our anniversary. The place is cozy, the food was delicious, and our server Brittney was friendly and helpful. We will be back!

I'm a big meatloaf fan and I fell in love with their's. I would have never thought of artichokes in meatloaf, but it works, quite nicely.

Side note: Lynn, the co-owner, is just a delight, very friendly and funny. Next time I am through Newport News, I will make a point of going back there.
