I have been dealing with back pain since 2016. i was afraid to have surgery. i met with Dr. Jeffrey Carlson and told me exactly what I needed to do to stop the pain. I had my surgery at the Coastal Virginia surgery center and both Dr. Carlson and the surgery team had perfect bedside manners. Everyone was so nice and made me feel like I was the only patient there. My back feels remarkable. There therapy center is great and the staff is wonderful. Thank you so much Dr. Carlson.

I dealt with shoulder pain for several years, It finally got so severe I could not sleep. Dr. Coleman did MRI found torn Bicep and several other issues decided on surgery and am 3 months post surgery doc says I am doing as good as someone 6 to 7 months and has released me. I feel much better and am sleeping without pain. All in all great doc and team.

In 2015 My left rotor cuff tore and Dr Coleman not only explained everything up front he was very detailed and to the point. Since then I have heard around town people that he has treated and bragged about this old fashion doctor. So when my right rotor cuff tore I went to Dr Coleman again this time it was more wrong with my shoulder than a simple rotor cuff but his confidence along with his staff has been excellent.

After several years of progressing shoulder pain, I made the decision to have it repaired. I chose Dr. Coleman because of his reputation and of several excellent testimonials (my husband being one having surgery several years ago). I had my reverse shoulder replacement in September. The first two weeks were a tad difficult but by the third week I was (really) surprised to realize I no longer had the constant shoulder pain; I credit the surgery plus the physical therapy. I can actually reach above my head! I found the Dr. Coleman and the staff extremely responsive, receptive, professional and would highly recommend this surgery.

I went in for an L5-S1 Spinal fusion on a Monday and by the following Monday I was in less pain than I had been in in over five years. By the second week I was able to walk comfortably with only a brace and after my most recent 6-week follow- up I feel like a whole new person. Dr. Carlson was amazing and his team was so friendly and professional. I feel so grateful to be able to physically be myself again. Huge shoutout to Ms. Yolanda as well for helping me navigate the hurdles of getting my VA healthcare to cover everything!

I had seen a few different doctors for my numbness of the hand and I had went to see Dr. Carlson and he determined what was causing the pain in 5 minutes. Dr. Carlson and Tonya have great bedside manners between the office and getting surgery. They were wonderful. Now Destiny, fabulous employee. Great customer service and friendly. I now live pain free and am able to use my hand with all feeling again

I had my shoulder replaced by Dr. Coleman in August of this year. I am so glad that I did. After having 2 rotator cuff surgeries (1 in each shoulder) a few years ago, this was by far a lot easier to heal from. Dr. Coleman did an excellent job. I am 72 years old, so don't ever think you are too old to do this! Thank you Dr. Coleman for giving my life back.

Today's visit was wonderful. Dr. McFarland and his team were very professional, skilled, compassionate, friendly and yet focused. Several patients in the waiting room had such positive reports about Dr. McFarland's healthcare given to them. Furthermore, I personally would like to refer Dr. McFarland and his team at OSC in Newport News VA to anyone seeking the best healthcare. Thank you, and I greatly appreciate it.

I injured my back in 2021,tripping on a charging cord. Both of my feet went numb. My primary referred me to Dr. Carlson. I went to my appointment and he told me exactly what the problem was. We had set up a surgery date, but my other half suffered a stroke and during this time I fell on my shoulder, needing a shoulder replacement by Dr. Coleman, who is also an excellent surgeon. By the time I finally got to go back to Dr. Carlson, it was 2023. I didn't realize I had a broken vertebrae in my middle back, which I had to have a kyphoplasty on prior to the lower sciatica surgery.
During this waiting period, the pain in my right leg was unbelievable. I was not able to walk without a walker. I am now PAIN-FREE in my right leg. As soon as Dr. Carlson operated, the pain was gone! He is an awesome surgeon and knew from the start my problem. All of the stories of bad back surgeries will continue to fly around keeping people in pain, when they don't have to be. I am now walking pain free and would recommend Dr. Carlson to anyone with back or sciatica pain, He is tops in my opinion.

Although the appointment was for someone else who has been experiencing some serious pain and was told over and again that it’s normal for her age and weight and that they just keep giving pain medication without further examination!
On being seen at this facility, they did more than just take the normal steps and found the reason for her pain! With that being said, she will have the opportunity to resolve her pain issue and move forward including a new physician!
I greatly appreciate the time and effort that they put into finding out the problem

Great Docs and staff. Have been caring for my knee for several years. Always up front, honest, and willing to try different treatments prior to surgical intervention. Appreciate them very much.

I met Dr. Carlson in 2005, when after 3 years of horrible pain and meds from other doctors, he diagnosed the root of the pain. He fixed me up and on with life I went, herniated disc was gone.

Fast forward to 2022 and my neck is having issues. I didn’t hesitate to visit Dr. Carlson again. He’d helped before, I’ve sent friends and family to him throughout the years, so I had full confidence in OCS and Dr. Carlson helping me again. In March if 2023, he performed a spinal fusion in my neck, and 7 weeks post-surgery I was riding my motorcycle to Key West. Normal life regained twice now, thanks to Dr. Carlson and the team at OSC!!

Great orthopedic and spine clinic, Dr Burrow just replaced my right hip, “ piece of cake”, anyone in need ,do not put off. Dr McFarland tends to the issues with my back. Even on the occasions I see their assistants I feel very confident in them. This Center is very accommodating. I am very happy to be their patient.

1st visit was today and so far I am very impressed.

Update: 2nd visit was nearly painless and in/out quick. Cool doc had classic rock on the radio.

I suffered with spondylolisthesis of my lower spine for 2-1/2 years with a different surgeon that kept waiting for my condition to get worse, I suppose cause he kept telling me to come back in a year twice. My condition started affecting more nerves as time went on. A coworker my husband knew that had back surgery agreed to talk to me about her experience and she highly recommended Dr. Jeffrey Carlson. I made an appointment to get a second opinion with Dr. Carlson and I am so very happy that I met him. He has an awesome personality and very caring. Everything and everyone at Orthopedic and Spine Center preparing me for my surgery was Awesome. Dr. Carlson is an outstanding surgeon, I had a quick recovery, no more pain in just one week. We drove from Chesapeake to Newport News to see the best spine surgeon and so glad I did. I tell everyone I know that if they have spine issues, go see Dr. Carlson.

Everyone at OSC is great! I have seen Dr.Haynes several times. By far, the best Orthopedic Surgeon. Very caring, reassuring, gentle, and down to earth. When Dr. Haynes say he will take care of you, he will.

Dr. McFarland and his team did a very good job. They were on time for my procedure. He was very clear with what to expect during each step on the process. The nurse was fantastic in keeping me calm and reminding me the breath deeply during the intense times. Thanks

Had an epidural today and Dr. Andrus and all the staff were very helpful and understanding since I was in a lot of pain today (not from the procedure and epidural—from degenerative discs). Would highly recommend them for pain management!

Jan. 2023 my primary referred me to Dr. Carlson because my sciatica had gotten so bad in both legs that I could not walk without a cane or walker. Dr. Carlson explained to me that my cervical spine was damaged and needed to be corrected before getting to my lumbar for my legs. Though I was disappointed hearing that because I wanted to walk ASAP! I was confident that he knew best.
Jan. I had cervical fusion done. Procedure went well and with my husband and the great home health care nurses and PT I recovered and was well enough for my Lumbar fusion. Again Dr. Carlson put my mind at ease and surgery went well.
I am happy to say that after recovering and having PT I am now walking pain free without cane or walker once again.
I am so grateful to God and Dr. Carlson. He was so nice as well as his staff throughout and answered all my questions and relieved my anxiety. I will refer anyone I know to him that need his services. Blessings!
