First Church of Newport News (Baptist)

Although, my visit on this day was for the homegoing of my Aunt; it is always a peace filled loving church for worship. My family history as members of this church dates back to my great grandparents. We still have active family as member of the congregation. I've witnessed much growth here and will continue to offer my prayers and support.

The Pastor, Rodney Johnson, is a great Teacher of Gods word. His patience and compassion for his people to know and live by Gods word is of the utmost importance to him. Some Churches don't have that. We are lucky.......thank You God....Anita Jackson

Thank you for your acts of kindness to my family at the passing of our father. This is my home church. I was baptized and practically raised in this church. It was nice to be back home during this difficult time. Thank you!

They feed the homeless

The music was good. The word was on point.

The practice of requiring Christians to have money paid into this church within a certain time to have a funeral here is shameful!! This is worst than the money changers Jesus drove out of the temple. This also happened to my best friend from childhood. If you don't stop this practice, your lamp stand will be removed for sure. In the name of Jesus. As a church, it appears you don't have faith for God to meet your finances. How can you teach the people to look to God for provision when you charge for a basic rite?

I contacted our family home church in First Church of Newport News after my mothers passing requesting to have my mother' memorial service there in mid February. They finally contacted me back and indicated because she has been gone away to another state that they would not be able to honor my request. I explained that she was gone due to illness and I live out of town having to take care of her being her only child. They still says there was nothing they could do. So all the years that she attended and paid her money didn't count? The years we served on the usher board and I participated in the Sunbeam Choir didn't count. Never question why I don't fool with the black church. It's not about community is really about if you're still paying your money. No worries, I'll get it done and it will honor her name.

THIS CHURCH SHOULD BE A SHAME OF THE WAY THIS LIFE LONG MEMBER OF " THE FIRST CHURCH OF NEWPORT NEWS BAPTIST " WAS DENIED SERVICE AFTER HER PASSING " THEDOSIA MOONEY WATSON ",I GUESS HER MONEY WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU TO RECEIVE BUT NOT THIS LOVING WOMAN ,ITS SO SAD WHAT YOU PEOPLE DID DENYING HER DAUGHTERS REQUEST SHAME ON THIS CHURCH ,I WAS TRULY SADDEN BY THIS NEWS I'VE NEVER BEEN THERE & WILL NEVER EVER GO THERE THE DEVIL IS WEARING SHEEP CLOTHING !

I cannot believe your church would not honor a memorial service for a tithe paying member who recently passed away out of state. Im in utter disbelief right now.
