Definitely worth the photo op! A lot of construction in the area. They are rebuilding the playground. I think it might be a splash pad when they’re done so more fun things for families here when that’s finished also. Someone’s review captured the plaque- be sure to read that if you don’t know the story behind the statue.
I walked the loop by the bay- and love the banyan trees- so including those pics 😊

A part of Roadside America places to visit, this statue was done when a couple kissed after WW2 ended and were photographed on a street with thousands of cheering people alongside them. A great looking 20 foot tall statue stands along a park to be seen. One of the most photographed statues in Florida

Statue created after the famous U.S. NAVY sailor kisses a nurse in New York on the street after hearing WWII is over. Bayfront Park located in Sarasota, FL.

This is an iconic statue that is absolutely beautiful and the owner of it went to unbelievable means to make sure that it got in Sarasota and stayed in Sarasota. He then donated it and the owner of the land ensured that it would never be moved or taken down and all is preserved.

When the Japanese finally surrendered World War II, these two not even knowing each other immediately kissed to celebrate the end of a terrible and destructive war.

It is awesome! Beautiful, inspirational and definitely worth the trip to see it. Especially considering the beautiful Marina in the backdrop and a very fancy restaurant upstairs on the local down-to-earth restaurant downstairs inside. Marina Jack.

Art in the park essentially. It's HUGE!! This was located right next to the parking lot. Great stop for a quick visit and photos. Parking is obviously close. There is plenty of it as well. The surrounding area is pretty and the water is nearby. There is also a restaurant nearby as well.

NOT NORMAL SIZE!!
Don't be fooled guys! These are depictions of gigantic couple kissing after a world war fought over human sizes. They were not the winners-
Half of humanity was HUGE back then and we, the small, were victorious! The huge have fallen!
And that's where the saying "small victories" came from. :)

Magnificent Statue! Honored I was able to stand amongst this 25-foot "Unconditional Surrender" statue that stands near Bayfront Park in downtown Sarasota. This iconic statue in Sarasota must be moved to make way for construction soon and there are strong opinions on whether it should return to its prominent location once the project is finished. I wanted to stand in its graces while I had the chance. The statue of a sailor kissing a nurse is based on a famous Alfred Eisenstaedt photograph taken in New York's Times Square on Aug. 14, 1945, ‘V-J Day’, marking the end of World War II.
The sculpture needs to be moved for the construction of a new traffic roundabout.
It’s now up to the Sarasota City Commission to make a final decision on where ‘Unconditional Surrender’ will ultimately reside.
I highly recommend a visit while you still can. Enjoy! - Jo

If visiting downtown Sarasota, you should go to see Unconditional Surrender statue. It is located in Island Park on the Sarasota Bayfront. Once there, you can admire the 26-ft tall statue, pose and take great pictures. Then, just go for a walk around the marina. Beatiful view.

Nice place to stay for a while and take a lot of pictures... You can also visit the O'leary's Tiki bar & Grill and take boat rides. All at the same place...

A beautiful thing to come celebrate any event and especially on July 4th! It's free to the public. Parking might be a little rough but it is a holiday so come early. Beautiful drive and right on the marina....God Bless America 🇺🇲😎

The Unconditional Surrender statue located in Island Park on the Sarasota Bayfront is a great place for a photo op.

The sculpture by Seward Johnson is replica of the famous Times Square kiss after WW II ended.
