On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina - Gastonia

I ordered take-out at shift change. There were 3 people in the place other than staff and myself. No one greeted me or noticed me come in. I stood for a minute or two, then sat at the end of the bar waiting. The server that was leaving shift noticed me and greeted me. She told me it would be a few minutes on my order because if shift change.

She brought out something for a couple sitting at a table and then told me she was leaving and her replacement would take care of me and asked if I needed anything while I waited. I declined and sat doom scrolling on my phone.

I sat waiting for 20 minutes. I wasn't upset about it, but the server going off shift noticed I was still waiting. She apologized for the wait, and said she would take care of me before she left. She wasn't on the clock at this time. I noticed a group of staff in the back of the dining area talking. I saw someone getting an interview. I sat there for probably 25-30 minutes and this girl was the only staff to even make eye contact with me, much less be concerned that a person was just sitting there with no food, beverage, or utensils.

The food finally came, and it was fantastic. I mean that with the utmost sincerity. The food was the best I've ever received for OTB. So hats off to whoever was cooking that day!

Take this review in its entirety, please. Notice that I came at shift change, but the food was still really good. Service can be weird during shift change, and sometimes things can get missed, but I have to say having that one awesome server that just wants people to be happy is a great thing.

Savannah and the manager of this location are the best! She’s very awesome at being a bartender and made great drinks and was personable. Although one of the servers pulling the casual Gen Z attitude towards us and her coworkers, the manager handled it immediately and didn’t see her again.

Y'all!!! Sierra is a hard worker. She was doing all of the cleaning that night and seating customers and she did it all with a smile. She was great to talk to, hope I didn't talk her head off. I would def go again just to say hey to her

From beginning to end, everyone was great! We ordered the Ultimate Fajita and were very pleased. All meats and shrimp were moist and delicious. Steak came out as ordered (medium rare) Free chips and salsa were plentiful. All staff wore masks correctly. Covid protocol followed 100% We'll be sure to return. It's one of the few spots that we felt comfortable eating at in Gastonia.

On the Border was totally Awesome! Especially if you Love Mexican food. There was so much too choose from on the Menu, it was hard to choose! We ordered a Bourdoritto and Omg! Excellent! Jakwan was our Waiter and He di6 a Jam-Up Job!!!!!

For it to be a Thursday night, not to busy. Our waitress was incredible on point, super sweet. They might have been short staffed in the kitchen, it took about 45 minutes to get our food. But it was well worth the wait..

Food and service were great, but unfortunately they don't have our favorite dressing, the chipotle honey mustard, any more!

Last time I was here was when building was first built for their grand opening. Food and service was great then. I returned on my way back home through Gastonia. Food and service are still great after all these years. The wife and I both enjoyed. It was her first time. We will both be back next time we pass through.

If you could make a mild salsa, that would be great.

Highly recommend Grand Papi! Very friendly and attentive staff. Food was hot fresh, flavorful and brought out to table in a timely manner. Bathroom was very clean well stocked and pleasant smelling. Parking lot has disabled parking and very clean.

SO SWEET & MY ORDER WAS READY & HOT!!! GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!! GREAT FOOD!! I WOULD TELL EVERYONE TO GO THERE FRESH EVERY TIME!! CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TRULY THE BEST!! Jeff Brannen definitely would be the best experience ever here at this location. He needs to be the GM in this location. Bring back On The Border in Gastonia, NC. The bartender was amazing by far. She will be your next best decision for management for sure. They both had an amazing attitude during my visit. “Know your customers and build your business.” ~by the bartender.

Food was good and Chelcie was great. Very pleased with the visit.

I just love this place. The salsa has just the right amount of heat and everything is always so fresh and delicious.
