I love coming up here ever now and then to help clear my mind, it's a very beautiful trail to follow and the views are gorgeous.

What a great hike! Easy enough that just about anyone can do it, yet enough of a challenge to keep it fun! It's beautiful any time of year! Dog-friendly, you can hike, bike, or even snowshoe (from what I understand. I've never personally gone snowshoeing)

This is a very nice trail but you have to time it right when there are not a lot of people and dogs around if you want peace and quiet. I love this trail.

Such a gorgeous hike! The view was phenomenal. Next time I’ll pop an allergy pill, I was sneezing nonstop, but that’s a me thing. This trail is 100% worth a visit.

Fernwood is a staple of not just Layton but Davis County. This place has been around forever. I remember going up there as a Cub scout, going up there to watch fireworks, going up on hikes with family. They've definitely made improvements to the trailhead and parking. The improved picnic sites are also great with the addition of bathrooms. It's always a treat driving by the castle. If you want a beautiful hike that's not hard for any age, then fernwood is it. Even if you take it all the way to Adams canyon and have someone pick you up in that parking lot, any kid can make it. Beautiful in the fall, beautiful in the spring, beautiful in the summer. Definitely worth the trip.

Great place to take the whole family on a hike or take another more challenging route and get in a workout.

Great trailhead with access to multiple trail routes and endless miles of hiking. 2 parking lots. Dog friendly. Horse-bike riders frequent here

This is my favorite hike in the Layton area. It's a great warmup for Adam's Canyon or if you want a trail to run. The two streams are great for dogs and kids, but keep in mind that you need to cross one of them by walking on rocks. There is a potential to get some wet feet but it hasn't happened to me more than twice over at least a dozen hikes up this trail.

It was a beautiful hike, not too much traffic on the trails. You are sharing it with horses so watch out for dung. I went fairly close to sunset, so the view was pretty spectacular.

One of the best trails out there. Easy enough for kids and a nice stroll for most of it. I like how you can go as far as you want before turning around. Also 67/10 sunset would definitely recommend.

This is a great shoreline trail along the mountain. The trail is a nice hike with great views of the valley. The trail has many inclines and decline areas and there's a spot where you have to try and not get your shoes wet in a small stream.

My dogs also love this trail but we've seen many other dogs off leash that walk ahead of their owners and it has been challenging with over reactive dogs.

The picnic area is wonderful being among the scrub Oak and it makes you feel like you're really out in the woods. We love coming here to picnic. We also love the trailhead up above for the shoreline Trail and frequently go hiking here as well. It's nice to have a place like this so close to home.

My wife and I love the Fernwood Trailhead. They're is a decent amount of parking here, and you can hike either North or South along the Bonneville Shoreline Trail from this location. It is very convenient for us to drive to this trailhead and enjoy a nice hike from here. The views are spectacular!

Plenty of parking, easy to get to. The views from the trail are absolutely stunning. Lots of up and down on the trail with some variation to keep things interesting. Moderately difficult due to the steep inclines.
