Long Hollow Scenic Overlook

Just saw the street sign last minute and took a chance. What a great view! It was on a hill and really windy and it was strong, so I didn't stay long. It's definitely worth a visit, and even hang out on a lawn chair with a coffee and enjoy the view for a little while. I would love to see it in the winter and summer to see all its greenery. It'll probably look like The Shire from LOTR... Wonderful and peaceful at the same time.

This place really lives up to its name, you can see so much of the surrounding areas. Worth a stop.

Great place to watch the Sunrise, but really breathtaking and serene any time of day. There will be some road noise from the highway behind you, however, in between the rise and fall of shifting engines, you can hear the plaintive moo'ing of cows, the screeching of hawks hunting in the distance, and all the other sights and sounds you'd expect from this gorgeous rolling farmland. It's worth noting there is also a tree-lined rest stop in the center of the loop that sends you back to the highway, but the overlook is best viewed and accessed by parking on the straightaway immediately after exiting. There are bathroom facilities, as well as dog-walking and picnic areas.

The perfect spot to take a break from driving. Take a short walk back down the road from the rest area, and you'll see some spectacular views of western Illinois in all its grandeur!

The views in the daytime are nice by Illinois standards. However at night this is a great place to see the Milky Way, watch meteor showers, or just simply stargaze. The pictures attached are from the annual Perseids Meteor shower. The drive from Chicago is a little over 2 hours and it’s nice driving thru the small towns to get here. Make sure to check out Galena if you are in the area.

Beautiful, scenic and relaxing view of the farmlands near Galena. Wish there was a way to also include the views from across the highway and make it accessible as the view there is also beautiful

I didn't even realize Illinois had such beautiful scenery. I thought it was all Chicago dirty like. You definitely need to make a stop here and take it all in.

Nice rest area. The bathroom facilities were out of order. I saw a walking stick on a sign.

Was planning on stopping here on my way home, but it was pouring down rain. Just as I pulled through the turn around here, the rained stopped and a double rainbow appeared - utterly amazing!!

We love the views from this scenic rest area! Can't wait to go back again and have a picnic. There is a restroom 🚻 and picnic tables. We did miss the tower that use to be a central feature of this overlook, but the views are still amazing even without the tower.

This is a really awesome spot to look over the scenic beauty of landscape . I was surprised to see such mesmerizing place in Illinois on the way to Galena.
There are restrooms and picnic area as well , you can spend great time looking at the beauty of terrain and enjoying the breeze.

A great stop just before reaching Galina Illinois. The view goes on for miles in every direction. It made for a nice unexpected stop. There are several picnic tables and restrooms. Well worth the stop!

We always stop here for a photo opportunity when going to Galena. Absolutely phenomenal view that gives a perfect opportunity for great pictures.

I was on my way to Iowa when I saw this overlook. You can't help but pull over to stop and look. Its breathtaking. Don't miss it.
