Old Pioneer Store & Emporium

First off, they give a free sample of their freshly made fudge (made there!) There are a variety of sweets and snacks. They even have a fun gift section with unique finds. I always enjoy going to the Old Pioneer Store & Emporium!

We googled shops in Downtown Big Rapids and came across this gem!! The aroma when you walk in was delicious - a mixture of chocolate and popcorn!! Lots of unique gifts, home decor and more. The owner introduced herself and couldn’t have been any more friendlier and helpful. Plus, she was a great ambassador for the city of Big Rapids. We definitely will be back!

I live a thousand miles away but every year when I visit Big Rapids this is a must visit place. The atmosphere, candy and ice cream and the great local and Michigan gifts are great.

Perfect place for my 11yr old son and I to fill my wife's stocking!!! In about 15min??? That's a bonus Gentleman, knowing they cover every holiday, as it approaches(and her Birthday), with gifts your Lady will enjoy!! 👍😁👍

The absolute best shop in a small town for confections, fudge, beautiful gift items. Always something new... also a great place to browse and take in all the beautiful decorations of the Christmas season.

It was so amazing! It felt like we were stepping back in time, the staff was extremely friendly and so kind, and the chocolate was a dream!

Great little shop. My husband and I wandered in, not expecting much more than chocolates and were pleasantly surprised. There's a large gift area with some really cute things, and a nice selection of ornaments. The owner? was really nice, and gave us a sample of the delicious fudge. Bought an adorable owl, not that I was looking for one but couldn't resist!

I love The Old Pioneer, and have been a patron for many years. If they don't have what you are looking for (and they almost always do), all you have to do is ask and they will try to find it for you. The owners are more than accommodating. I read a review from a dissatisfied customer regarding kettle corn and ice cream. If this unhappy customer had just expressed their concerns they would not have been charged. The owners, Carlleen and Brian Rose, bend over backwards to ensure customer satisfaction.

The shakes & malts here are the best around. Not something I do all the time but it's a fantastic way to treat yourself. Great unique gifts & cards, and if you need gift ideas (like oh maybe for a wedding that you need to be at in an hour) they're super helpful. Best part, they'll wrap your gift for free and take care to make it look GOOD. Even went so far as to match wrapping paper with wedding colors. I've never had a complaint in 20 years of going there, but if I did I'm sure they'd do everything to make things right. Thanks for being a Big Rapids staple for, well, ever! :)
Ps - if you want 'cheap' ice cream the gas station has a chest freezer full.

A Big Rapids Downtown centerpiece. Courteous staff that is always willing to go the extra mile to take care of customers. Carlleen and Brian always make you feel welcome. I can always find unique gift ideas at reasonable prices.

Every time I am walk in there is a smiling face to greet me. Unique products, LOVE the Michigan Made section. If you have a sweet tooth, this is the place to handle that craving for chocolate, candies and ice cream. #SupportLocal #buylocalmi

Wonderful little shop, there are so many options for desserts and delicious ice cream. They were even making home made popcorn assortments, while I was there. Very polite owners and staff.

I love everything about this store, the very friendly staff, the abundance of unique ornaments, the 'Michigan' items, along with the made in store fudge and other treats. My favorite is the malts, nothing beats a Kilwin's malt any day of the week!

The old Piobeer has some for everyone. From the sweets, cards Michigan made products, Christmas all year round room. It's a terrific place to visit.😆 and shop

Love having this shop in downtown Big Rapids. The ice cream flavors are always great and it's a nice afternoon stop with the family.
