Mountain Lake Academy

I was at this place for 3 years and its honestly one of the best programs in New York. Yes it is challenging but so is life and thats why they take it upon themselves to personally teach you how to mantain a healthy lifestyle also and also make good decisions not only for yourself but for others around you. Those of you who say "its a bad place' Didn't apply yourself either there or on the outside. Overall if I had a choice this would be the very first place I send my kids!

Spent 4 years at this wonderful residence! They had wonderful staff with outstanding Wilderness group activity's! I learned Leadership, Responsibility, Hard work ethics, and time management at Mountain Lake and now I'm a working member of society with a high school diploma all thanks to Mountain Lake Academy!

I used to a student there in the brookview program when I started in 2016 I didn’t know the rules fully yet I also used to lie, perseverate a lot, and split staff but I started to know what was important and use my awareness like finishing up school and joining in more of the community I have been a good student, I was on the third phase which in brookview it’s red phase but one day in the kitchen I used to work at I had a bump on the road but I worked my way back up again thanks to the staff and my friends I turned into the person I am today honest, more smarter, and grateful MLA also got me more interactive like going on hikes, helping out in nursing homes, volunteering at races, participating in gym classes, school, activities like art, cooking, music making, board games, watching documentaries, participating in wilderness first aid, going to church, making new friends, learning to use maps, working in the kitchen, going off campus on outings, golfing, speech sessions, camping, swimming, skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, birding, rock climbing, chores, and my favorite chilling and listening to music. Thanks to the teachers if it wasn’t for you guys I would graduate with a regents diploma. This place really helped me if it helped me it can totally help future students. I would recommend this place for future students. Remember this motto: WHATEVER IT TAKES Thank you All of MLA staff and Friends for helping including the higher ups

Nice open campus

it's only good if you look at it good but it was definitely not fun

They have a great outdoor program but their counseling and trans parency about student issues
are troubling. Only because i came up for a visit did i discover that my son had used a pen to scar/cut himself. Some of the supporting staff is very good but the administration and psychologist or social worker were very questionable

I was there 2019 and it's giving good life children let them be good when they get out there I don't like there that much but sometimes you may like there but make good choice for you self!!!←_←

The school is only good if you wanna change and a lot of kids don't lol

I attended this program for about 11 months and I have to say it was not a good program. Their phase program is poorly organized and all the "wilderness adventures" they talk about don't come until after 10-20 weeks in the program. The education system they have in place is also horrible. I have a IEP and they did not accommodate to any personal needs. I highly recommend looking at this program closely before attending.

For the longest time, I thought quite highly of MLA. I got out and thought that they made me a better person, but in reality they just traumatized me. I’m not making this up, either. My psychiatrist thinks I got PTSD from the place. MLA is not a therapeutic boarding school. It will permanently scar you and make you afraid to feel certain emotions or speak your mind. I cannot stress enough how much damage MLA will do to your psyche.

I feel like this school traumatized me and after discharge left me totally unprepared. The program is deeply flawed and any intake tour or interview does not give a full picture of the psychological impact on your child.
