Upward Church

I have attended this Church since 1965.
Full gospel Church, preaching from God's word, Diverse group of believers who seek direction from the Holy Spirit and strive to make all feel welcome. Small groups studying various topics allow for more intimate communication for those interested. Goal to reach as many people as fast as possible for the kingdom of God.
Services are at 10 am Sundays and telecast live on Sundays and can be accessed on You Tube. Wednesday night Bible study and prayer. Love my Church ❤

I’m going to be honest when I first moved to VA from Ohio I “church shopped” because nothing felt like what I was used to or the church seemed like they were people wearing their Christian mask for Sunday morning. I kept seeing the same person come into my place of work wearing an Upward t-shirt so I did some research. Man, I was floored on the first visit. I walked in on a Sunday morning early because I wanted to check out how the people functioned before the rush; in my opinion you get the truest version of people when they think no one is there and I immediately felt welcomed. The worship brought the Holy Spirit in, the campus pastor Jesse set the stage of “don’t do like alone” and then pastor Craig gave a message that seemed to speak right from the Bible into my soul. I have not looked back since and even though I moved since then to IL and use the online campus I still feel just as connected to Jesus, the church, and the people I now call family as much as I did when I was at the physical campus. If you have never, been here before I can tell you right now you will not regret it.

The thing I love most about Upward Church is the emphasis on building relationships. They say, "Don't do life alone", and they mean it. In addition to meeting and getting to know wonderful people, I'm hearing teaching that's good for me, and it's applicable to my life. I love the music. I know that the worship team spends time in practice and that they love what they're doing. The people who meet you at the door are friendly. Their Kids' Church is both organized and fun for the little ones. I've never felt judged or looked down on by anyone, including the Pastors, who personally greet people every time the doors are open. They know you by name, and that feels good, especially since Upward isn't a tiny church. Another major plus is that you can wear what you want and not feel out of place. Dress up if you want, and don't if you don't. And no one's going to shove anything down your throat. The pastor gets up there and yeah, he reads scripture, but he also speaks from his own experience. Plus he's hilarious. All in all, if you're not a church-type and you're just checking the whole thing out, you should definitely stop by Upward. And if you are a church-type and you're looking for a church home (like I was) you should visit Upward Church too.

small church, tight knit community with a diverse congregation that loves the Lord!

My husband and I came to Upward while "church shopping". It was the first one on the list of many and we never left. We felt at home the second we walked through the doors. Everyone is genuinely kind and welcoming, the atmosphere is super casual, not uptight like we were both use to. The services are awesome and the music is even better!

Upward church is amazing I have never experienced God's love the way I have at this church. The preach the truth in a spirit of love. It's the best church I have ever been too and I am honored to call it home.

I absolutely LOVE upward church. it is a place where you come as you are, meet people and learn about how to live as a Christian. They strongly believe in not living alone so meet people, make friends and love one another. GREAT band. Has 2 morning services, 1 evening service on sundays. 1 midweek on Wednesday.

This is my home church. Pastor Craig and the other pastors are what you can call "warrior leaders". They love purely & truly want to help save as many souls possible before the return of Christ. They do not teach what people want to hear. They teach what we need to hear... The truth. There I am constantly filled with the true word of God. The love lives in the atmosphere.

It took me 26 churches before I found Upward but, it was well worth it. The sermons are bible based, you wear what you want and the live music is like a rock concert. They have multiple services now including a 6pm which makes it great for those of us who like to sleep in.

Great church, very welcoming people, great sermons from a pastor that is not afraid to stand up for God's Word and stand against the ideas of our increasingly secular society.

My children and I loved this church. It's really diverse, and reflective of the Norfolk community. They have a great youth program with caring leaders.

Great service and they have multiple services so you can go to the one that is best for your schedule. The church members are very nice and welcoming.

Awesome place to worship and fellowship. They really live what they preach. Imperfect people serving a perfect God. Don't do life alone
