Highly recommend!! Love stopping in Ironclad whenever I'm in the Richmond area. It has the coolest vibe and ambiance, with rustic/vintage decor and smooth jazzy tunes playing in the background. The coffee is excellent--smooth and bold, just how I like it. Sometimes, the coffee comes with a little complimentary cookie or little chocolate mint, which is a nice touch. I would definitely be a regular if I was a local!

Simply the best! Amazing coffee, delicious pastries made in house, and vibes of perfection. Love the jazz music and eclectic furniture. My favorite coffee shop in Richmond!
Get here by 9 to beat the weekend rush!

Love the atmosphere of this coffee roaster. The old brick building has been beautifully redone. The seating areas and cozy and welcoming for hanging out or sitting quietly for work or reading.

I had a lavender oat milk latte. The lavender was not a syrup, just the flavor of lavender, which was so delicious! Way too many places go so sweet and it takes over the flavor, but this was so perfect!

A must visit if you are in Richmond, VA! Built in an old firehouse, the brick ambience paying homage to Richmond's history, there are many great spots to enjoy your cup of coffee and pastry. While a bit pricey, the pastries are absolutely delicious-- I highly recommend the croissants and biscuit sandwiches.

Just spent 4 days in Richmond and we visited the downtown firehouse location twice and the suburban location once. It has everything that this older dude loves. Single origin coffee, they had the Costa Rican, breakfast sandwiches, I had the delicious bacon egg and cheese, fresh in house baked goodies, and comfortable seating. What a great experience! Ironclad was recommended by the very friendly bartender at Richbrau Brewery.

I came with a friend, and I don’t usually drink coffee. I asked the cashier to recommend me a drink. I was recommended their seasonal drink Florida man and it was pretty tasty. I liked that the weather was nice out side and they had the huge roll up door open, had a nice breeze and soft calm music playing. This place was great!

A really nice place! Couches, lots of plants, an upstairs balcony section. Sign on the door says people are paid a living wage, which is something I always want to support. It was $10 for a latte and donut, but hey, it's a small coffee shop with high quality ingredients and barista who knows what they're doing!

Great coffee, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches. There was a line when I came in but I was able to place my order within 10 mins. Indoor and outdoor seating. Limited parking too.

Update: second day was even better. The raspberry Brie croissant was the BEST, as was the gigantic cinnamon roll. I also tried the butterscotch latte, which was unique and GOOD.

The coffee is unique and superb. I tried the ginger cookie latte. It was amazing.
Breakfast sandwich biscuits were delicious.
The ambiance is great. Fun place! I love their creative coffees.

If you want a truly crafted coffee made in a real espresso machine ironclad is your place. They’re specially coffees can be eight or $10 but they are using the finest ingredients and it usually comes with a little cookie today. I got a pumpkin latte with real pumpkinparking could be a pain if you don’t wanna pay has indoor and outdoor seating and is very cozy.

I went there twice for coffee. Got a flatwhite and a double espresso, and both were good. Didn't get a chance to try any of their baked goods or other stuff.

The place itself is really nice, and I can imagine hanging out there over a coffee with some friends. Service is very friendly and attentive.

I came into Ironclad on a Sunday late morning and was greeted by Brian who was a real gentleman. He guided me through the drink options skillfully and I chose to get the Hygge holiday special drink. It was spectacular. I also bought two bags of beans and was very satisfied with the service I got.

Folks, I visit coffee shops all over the world and let me tell you: not only is this my favorite coffee shop in Richmond. It’s one of my favorite coffee shops on the east coast. And the excellent baked goods simply add to that equation. Add in the fantastic charm of their location and you have yourself an unbelievable cafe. I am so glad I found this place and will be returning on my next trip to Richmond.

I had Hygge coffee (seasonal) and Matcha latte. Both were good. Space is little small but there are tables outdoors.

Most importantly, the coffee and pastries were delicious and very well priced. The smoked cappuccino was an experience! However, I'm leaving this review because it needs to be shared that this is the most kid-friendly coffee shop I've ever seen. They have high chairs, a toddler table with a toy espresso machine, and a toddler step stool in the bathroom. As a mom, I really appreciate this!

A few months back, we finally visited Ironclad Coffee Roasters in Shockoe Bottom. A beautiful red brick building, which looks to be an old firehouse, beckons you in. To the left as you enter is a piano and to the right, a line with menus and a display with t-shirts and locally made coffee scrubs for sale. In the center of this spacious room with a high ceiling is an island for the baristas to prepare your drinks. We were greeted quickly by an enthusiastic and friendly barista, and promptly placed our orders: one of the summer specials, the “Nero” Dark Chocolate Cookie Milk Latte, and an orange juice. I had no idea what a “Nero” was when I ordered this drink, but when I saw it, I knew I had made the right decision.

This Nero cookie was fresh baked, rich with decadent chocolate, and almonds. Had I not let it sit in the latte so long, it would have been even crisper along the edges. Baking this cookie perfectly brought its flavors and sweetness to life through careful caramelization. The milk latte was brewed and blended to perfection, with chocolate streaming down the insides of the glass. Because Ironclad steeps their milk overnight in luxurious dark chocolate, this creamy latte had a delightful fudgy flavor through and through. There was a nuttiness to the latte, which added a roundness and a richness to the flavor profile. This could be due to the roast of the beans, which I feel is a medium roast due to the balance of bitterness and warmth (it was not over roasted). Overall, this was the most indulgent latte I’ve had in a long time!

My husband opted for some freshly handcrafted orange juice by Natalie’s Orchid Island Juice Company. This juice was a sunny burst of citrus like you’ve never had at home - refreshingly sweet, cheerfully acidic, and thirst-quenching.

We really vibed with the relaxed ambiance at Ironclad. It was busy; there were four or five employees hurrying about, but they seemed to have great teamwork and a smooth operation. Soft music played in the background; old standards floated by with gentle lyrics and lilting horns. In the front, and along the right side of the building, are two outdoor seating areas for guests. Upstairs, there are four or five tables for guests to visit with each other or to work on their laptops with the free wifi.

In addition to their summer menu, Ironclad offers a variety of coffee drinks and teas. Some unusual offerings they have are a cortado, which is equal parts espresso and steamed milk, and a puntino, which is their name for a classic macchiato - espresso with just a little layer of frothed milk. Another interesting concoction is the Grimsby Fog, which combines lavender and sage white tea with housemade vanilla syrup and steamed milk.

This is your cue to take a trip to Ironclad to see what impressive items they may have on their fall menu! When you make your journey to Ironclad, don’t forget to check out the bagged coffees they have for sale, too - especially if you’re not coming through again soon!

Stopped by on our way home to grab some coffee and was drawn in by house cool this place looks! I usually go for an iced oat milk mocha but they had so many creative intriguing drinks. I ordered the brown butter chocolate chip cookie milk latte and it was amazing. It was yummy without loosing the flavor of coffee, wanna know how they got it to taste like a cookie! Will definitely stop by again on our way back up.

Best treats and specialty drinks I've ever had and a wonderful atmosphere! It is a must-visit if you are anywhere near Richmond! I even was able to satisfy my 10-month-old, we highly recommend the coconut oatmeal!

Brought my husband here this morning to kick off his birthday. It instantly became our favorite coffee house! From the atmosphere, the music, the delicious and unique coffees, to the delicious breakfast sandwiches and over the top bakery items. It being our first time, we tried a little bit of everything. Their honey chicken biscuit was hands down THE BEST! Triple Berry Scone, out of this world Cinnamon Roll and Chai Coffee Cake all winners. Can’t say enough about how wonderful this place is or how impressed we were. We will definitely be back and bring everyone we know! LOVED!

We visited Ironclad during a weekend trip to Richmond and ended up coming back every day for breakfast. The coffee is great, of course, but highly recommend the honey chicken biscuit. Very good. The space is amazing, too, with a nice mezzanine overlooking the rest of the shop. Loved it!
