Fantastic local bakery! The pastries are absolutely fantastic - can we talk about the flakiness of their croissants? It's just beautiful! 😍 Seriously though, very very impressed. There are a lot of bakeries in Richmond, but these pastries are amazingly priced for the size and taste! Plus they have a great selection of teas and coffees. There's very limited seating (all outdoors), but if you live nearby or are walking in the area, it's the perfect place to pick up something tasty to go! They also have a dedicated vegan selection (they were out of normal raspberry danishes so I got a vegan one and it was honestly better than some non vegan danishes I've tried). Highly recommend - if I lived near here I would definitely be a regular!

Food was amazing. When I went you had to order ahead online then pick up. I ordered from my car and it was ready pretty quickly. There is a section of vegan options every day and I tried the vegan tomato basil tart and it was so good

Best bakery in the area. The neighborhood is so cute. The staff is super friendly. We drive up from Yorktown once a month to get pastries. The pinwheels and mornings buns are top notch. Love this place.

Everything is delicious! Highly recommend the refrigerated pizza dough! It makes the best homemade pizza I’ve ever had. The owner seems super nice. Frequently sells out (because it’s awesome) so go early on open days.

Really great pastries and coffee! We went closer to closing so the selection left was a bit picked over, but we still had a lot of great options! The coffee/tea selection wasn’t huge but it was still very enjoyable- I wish they served iced tea along with the hot tea options but that is just a personal preference. We will definitely be back closer to opening so we can try more!

We consider ourselves blessed with this neighborhood bakery when globally, some small bakeries are struggling or closing, even in major cities. The bread is excellent, as are the pastries. We especially enjoy the supremes, which come in interesting variations, the almond croissants and the Danishes. High marks for original creations!
My only critical observations: Selling out of bread and bare shelves at 10 am seems extreme. The shop is also hindered by having only one check-out device, while multiple attendants per customer deal with lines.
Love the bread, but not the Soviet-era bread lines or shortages....

Love love love this place. I absolutely love how they come out with new and exciting things. You know that the baker is passionate about their job. You can tell in the food. It’s a very small shop with not much seating. But they sell vegan goodies and some gluten free items occasionally. I would say I wish they didn’t run out of everything so quickly though! When they have special releases, everything is gone first thing in the morning.

Delicious bakery with a wide variety of sweet and savory patties and breads. Go early or you will be met with a sparse display case that you will have no one to blame for but yourself!

We checked out Idle Hands for breakfast and we loved it so much! It most definitely lives up to the hype!

We got the Pumpkin Danish, Vegan Blackberry Danish, Iced Pumpkin Chai, and Iced Chai.

The danishes were so well made and nice and flakey! It was evident that the bakers are very skilled and take their time to laminate the dough in order to create all of the lovely layers. The pumpkin danish was delicious and tasted like an elevated cheese danish. The vegan blackberry danish was also amazing and you could not tell that it was vegan. Both of the pastries were not overly sweet, which made it perfect for breakfast. The pumpkin chai was good and had a nice spiced flavor, perfect for the fall!! Their chai is good, but definitely not my most favorite!

Be sure to go early so you have more options to choose from! They tend to sell out pretty quickly as well, so earlier they better!

Best bakery in Richmond! Everything we’ve tried we’ve loved. Coming from San Francisco, we miss everything sourdough and Idle Hands definitely makes up for it. Love their V/GF options as well.

I agree with some of the other reviews about the front end staff- not friendly and made me feel like I was such a bother to them.

The very best pastries in the area, no question. One of their croissants & a short of espresso for breakfast will have you feeling like you’re in Europe. They had eclairs this morning as a special and it might be the best eclair I’ve ever had. They’re a small operation so there are sometimes hiccups and they sell out quickly some days, but it’s all worth it if you love good pastry! Check their Instagram for regular updates on hours, flavors, & daily specials.

Their pastries are awesome. But if you want get your hands on them, make sure you get there early even on weekdays. Their supreme croissants are really good as well, but might have to go in person for that on the weekends.

Easily ordered online. Order early for maximum selection. They sell out fast! If you ordered online, you can step to the front of the line and grab your order just inside right next to the door. Orders are labeled with customer names on the bag(s). If you want to order in person, you must wait in line, with one customer inside at a time to view and choose bakery items. All the well done Covid precautions aside, Idle Hands has some of the best baked good around town! I love their pizza dough, fresh bread (sourdough, focaccia, and baguettes), pasteis de nata, and flaky croissants-- both savory and sweet. It is simply a must try RVA establishment! Check their Instagram stories for updates before you go.

Best coffee in town hands-down (I had an oat milk latte) . Strong, smooth and robust. They also use high quality oat milk. Definitely coming back.

Super friendly, helpful staff. Stopped by to try the Vegan 72 special - orange chocolate whoppy pie - which was AMAZING! Picked up a loaf of bread and have enjoyed that too. Wish it was easier to get to for car-driving non-locals, but the staff and amazing goodies more than makes up for it. Will be back!

Ever changing rotation of flavors at this cute little bakery. Staff are really nice and everything is top quality. Many vegan and non-vegan options. I love the pasteis de nata and the lemon curd croissant thing. Good coffee too.

My favorite place to get pastries. My partner and I go every weekend and the staff is always so friendly and the specials never disappoint. They have great vegan options as well :) If you want to beat the rush, go early when the cases are full. Thank you Idle Hands for always giving me something to look forward to<3

I've waited months to have a chance to visit, then about an hour in line this morning, and it was worth it. The line wait is because only one person/group is allowed inside at a time to maintain distancing, and I appreciate that. Everyone around us was wonderfully patient, and you can skip the line by ordering online, but then you miss the magic of gazing into the cases.

It all looked SO GOOD, but we made our choices, and my treat didn't disappoint. It was wonderfully flaky and reminded me why the small bakeries are the best - no chain with their pre-made pastries get quite the same flake, with the crispy outside and meli-in-your-mouth inside.

Hopefully I don't have to wait another 5 months for my schedule and bakery hours to match up again.
