This is the location of Fort Clinch, built as one of the chain of Seminole Indian War forts in the mid 1800's. There was fighting here and it is said that the water surrounding the fort was red with blood during one particular battle. Even though the fort wasn't in operation long, several important generals of the civil war, on opposite sides, served duty together here, Generals George Meade, A.P. Hill and "Stonewall" Jackson. The fort is long gone but there are logs from the fort preserved at the Frostproof Historical Museum not far away.
