Odessa Kilpatrick Elementary

Daughter(6) goes has been going to OKE for 2 years. Below is my feedback:

PLUSES

+ Tons of resources for children
+ Extremely engaged Teaching Staff
+ Solid tenure from Kindergarten teaching staff.
+ YMCA before/after school care on site. Great program!
+ School auctions are neat for kids. We won a bid for a princess mini bus to come to the school and give my daughter an hour of "princess" do up time.

- For some reason - lots of their events and meeting are at 2-4pm...Both my wife and I work, so it is so difficult to participate in anything do to this. It makes us feel like bad parents but we both work 45 miles away and simply cannot make 2pm PTA meeting and 4pm events...
- Is does got a bit overwhelming with all the fundraisers. We always participate in as many as we can. Sometimes I wonder if they prey on the working parent's guilt for not making their 2-4pm event activities so they know we will make up by participating financially in all the fundraisers. Not blaming them at all - they never force us to do anything. Maybe the word "prey" is a bit much but not sure another way to put it.

Overall - love the school and proud that my kids will go there for the next 5+ years!

OKE is ran like a well oiled machine. My children love attending the school and as a parent I couldn't hope for a better school, the teachers and administration are all top notch.

This place is good because it's all organized and theres many festivals

It is an average and nothing exemplary about this school and the amount of effort put in fundraising exceeds the teaching efforts. Some teachers are good and some are just average so it all depends on who is the teacher for your student. Teachers provide small homework each day and do not provide any guidance or curriculum so parents have to store the homeworks and classwork sheets until the day of the test. Katy ISD has an idiotic rule about switching students in each class so they have make new friends every time they get promoted and this can be stressful for shy kids.

It is a school that put all the burden on parents, and the teachers focus on fundraising and have littler experience.
