Always a great walk/jog in any direction and all seasons just be careful with cyclist/bikers!

I love to take photos and this is one of my favorite places in the Chicagoland/suburbs area.

What an amazing set of trails. They are lots of hills and changes in elevation over 150 feet throughout the entire trail system. Great for advanced mountain bikers. Hiking is our favorite thing to do on these trails. The park areas are great for family events. The trails are not good for younger children or people without experience in tougher terrain, especially for people on bikes. No strollers or wagons recommended. Lots of parking and quality facilities. Trails are marked very well.

Don't park at Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center parking lot if you're going to stay later than 5p. I was stunned by the locked gates at the end of my bike ride (amazing!!!). I had to crawl through an opening in the fence (actually under) in order to get to my car. And then I had to find the lady who takes care of the place to get the gates opened. I was ready to spend the night in my car till the morning 😞. Other than this adventure, the nature and trails are breathtaking. Next time, I'll find another parking spot.

We loved this Forest Preserves. It was quiet and very beautiful. There are lots of trails. This is the perfect time for a wedding, bike ride or a picnic. Bring the bug spray!

These woods are beautiful. I park off 107th street and take the uphill trail that runs along where a stream once was. The rocky path is a little challenging for younger people but it is great short hike. Getting to visit where reactor piles are buried is excellent.

I hiked these trails with a dog, but they seem to be most utilized by Mountain bikers. I really appreciated having a longer Trail Network to walk. Not much elevation, easy to get a lot of miles and quickly. Not too busy.

I love these woods and the FPCC accommodations!
I can sew the conservation work and stewardship.
Walking /hiking the trail each season shows the wonders if Mother Nature.

This is a great spot for mountain bike riding. Lots of hills, built up sections for bikes on the orange paths. We like to hike it too. .5 to 5.5 mile trails at this section. A few picnic pavilions, some small creek spots.

If you are looking for a workout without driving too far, then this is the place to be. Most of these trails are shared with mountain bikers, so keep aware to move to the side, as some of them move quickly. The Orange trail, as well as others are easily labeled on Google maps.
This is a historic site that the 1st and 2nd nuclear reactors were built known as the Chicago pile (cp-1/cp-2). Buried 40 feet below the surface. Leave your Geiger counter at home, it should be safe! Along the Orange trail.

The trails near Bullfrog, Maple Lake and Wolf Road have multiple hilly trails to choose from.

I've been to Palos Park multiple times and never repeated a trail. Be sure to check out their website and save the map to your phone, there are more trails in the pdf than what is posted.

Numbered sign post and color code are easy to follow, but there are still many surprise detours along the way. One of the best hiking areas within an hour's drive from the city.

Excellent trails to the immediate South, although likely more suited for advanced biking versus hiking. The trail is narrow, requiring you to stand in the brush to allow bikers to pass. Plan on allowing for a few days after rain for the low spots to dry.
