Camp Wakonda, Fontenelle Forest

We love this trailhead and the many beautiful places it leads us to! It’s part of Fontenelle forest, and there is an entry fee.

We reserved the building for an overnight trip to Omaha for our Troop. It was exactly what we needed. The facility was well-maintained. We were there with 2 other Troops and it was so big we hardly saw them.

The forest is a wonderful place to clear your mind. You'll see turkey and deer, and cardinals! I've seen a fox once and just love the surroundings of nature. Truly a great place to go walking/hiking.

10 yr old had day camp there and loved it! Good hiking, bird spotting, good activities for kids who adore the outdoors!

So this place is technically part of Fontanelle and it is awesome. It is quite a bit “wilder” than Fontanelle and doesn’t have a boardwalk. However, the trails are still in great shape. It is a bit more secluded and doesn’t usually have as many people which is nice. It has some great potential for birdwatching and other activities.

Also, I can remember going here in cubscouts, and it is nice to see that the place was able to remain a natural area and not be turned into a subdivision.

It is another part of Fontanelle and is someplace that should be checked out.

We took a guided tour along the History Trail today. The Fontenelle Forest educator was fun and informative! The trails are well maintained, but yet still have a rustic feel. The scenery didn't disappoint - lots of fall leaves, birds, and deer around. What a fun Sunday afternoon!

Amazing time. Great place for groups or alone.

Quiet trails for fontanelle forest members nestled in the back of a neighborhood. Complete with latrines full of scary spiders and everything.

Stopped out to visit the trails, but they were closed for maintenance. Shows me that Fontenelle Forest cares about their nature land and preserving it.

It was beautifully green and peaceful except for the wild turkey's! Go early to avoid the heat and humidity.

The hiking trails here are gorgeous! Can't wait to go when I have more than an hour to hike!

Love it! This campsite is really good if you like to hike if you dont mind a bit of mud.

A Small nice Boy Scout camp in the city. Full of wildlife and has good hiking trails.

Went here as a kid. Wonderful place. Turkey campout w troop 550. Good times.

The dining hall/meeting room works as an excellent spot for groups to meet.
