Wally's Chowder House Broiler

Fantastic little place to eat with many different seafood options. It came highly recommended by my girlfriend and it did not disappoint! We got the combo platter which came with Beer battered Halibut, Prawns, Scallops, Clam Strips & Cod Medallions which tasted fantastic. We also got the White Clam Chowder Bread Bowl which came with a generous romaine salad. Everything was super fresh and the combo platter came with fresh caught fish which was great!
I would highly recommend to anyone in the area.

It’s Valentine’s Day, and I’m out of town with my colleagues for business. I’ve been here in Washington state now for about three days. This is the first place in the three days where the food was excellent. And may I add very affordable.

I ordered steak and lobster. My one colleague ordered steak with clam chowder, and the other one ordered chicken sandwich and calamari fries.

Wallys has literally the best clam chowder that I’ve had thus far. It is so addicting. The calamari fries are fresh and I just absolutely wonderful. My other colleague said that her chicken sandwich was really good. My other colleague enjoyed his clam chowder just as much as I enjoyed his clam chowder, and he loved his steak. Let me just say the steak is wonderfully flavored. My steak and lobster absolutely divine. The steak is cooked perfect and lobster was too.

The service is also excellent! The restaurant itself is very homey.

I enjoyed this place so much I will definitely be back and I highly recommend it to anyone who has not had Wallys !

Friends suggested this place for chowder! After the gondola ride at Crystal, this is where we came for lunch on a Saturday. No wait, seated right away for a party of 5, near the bar where you’re surrounded with TVs to watch the football game!

I ordered the shrimp and lobster quesadilla and glad they had a half order and a side cup white chowder! Everything was delicious- should have gotten a bowl size chowder!

Fish and chips and chicken strips were fried to perfection. We were satisfied.

I love Wally's, and my family has been going there for years. The food is SO good, and their clam chowder is the best I've ever had hands down! I always get the fresh ling cod tacos pictured here, with a cup of chowder on the side. It's usually pretty busy, so go early and be prepared to wait - it's worth it!

Very full of flavor! Sometimes you get fish & chips and its bland, not here! Everything tasted amazing. I got the all you can eat fish medallions and chowder for 23.99, great deal!

Loooooong time local favorite albeit a bit out of the way, but totally worth the visit to Des Moines. Been coming for years and love the portions, chowder and overall experience every time. Love that you can order LARGE portions of the fish of your choice. Nice big platter! Chowder is quite lovely and available to-go.Crab cesar is another notable fave! Make a point to put this long-running seafood parlor on your short(er) list!

The restaurant has very fresh food. It tasted great! The inside is cozy, with great service . The bathrooms need more modernization. One thing to note is thair happy hour is for bar seats only, so it's very disappointing. Otherwise, prices are still fair, so I highly recommend them!

This is one of the best hidden gems around. Honestly, you should come with 6 people and all order something different so you can all share. These are my must haves: Crab cake is huge and comes with 2 sauces.
Coconut shrimp .. best I've ever had, order the large. Manila Clams, the large can be shared between 2 people. It's a beautiful sherry type broth with onions and carrots. Comes with a side of butter.yum! The lobster is incredible...12oz for 45.00. Cooked to sweet perfection. Steaks are best around. If you like fish, the Halibut is beer battered and delicious. If you want the cod, I prefer all you can eat in medallion form and, of course, add the clam chowder... it's better than Ivars.🤭 Look on the website for more pictures. Go as soon as you can!! Clam chowder was thick and very tasty. They gave a generous portion of clams. Toasted bread bowl was excellent (French/Italian bread). Salad was a Cesar with three added tomatoes. Their in-house ranch dressing is a must try.
Blackened chicken was a large cut of meat with only the outside seasoned. The inside was flavorless and couldn't taste any spices. Veggies were cooked well and were unseasoned. Fries were thick and had a slight crunch. Mozzarella sticks arrived with 6 pieces. They were crumbly and difficult to dip.
Service was friendly and servers were interchangeable. It seemed efficient for delivering fresh food.

Best Clam Chowder, Fish and chips I ever have. Great food, great service 😁. Will definitely be back again.

Great dinner at Wally’s. They don’t take reservations, but we only had to wait a few minutes for a table on Sunday night around 7pm. Highly recommend Clam Chowder, Crab Cakes and fresh Halibut. Halibut Taco dinner was huge! Definitely shareable.

Wow! Not knowing what to order, I was recommended the Halibut Tacos. She said to try them blackened. Amazing! At first, 2 tacos for $28 sounded crazy. They are large tacos and are filled in with that amazingly seasoned halibut. Being from Texas, this is a fish that I don't get to try often. So I'm looking forward to traveling back up here soon.

It was good food. I had the cod fish tacos grilled on flour tortillas. It was good, but next time would probably try the blacken for a little extra punch. Will go back to try the crab cakes I hear they are great and what my brother always ordered. I tried the chowder and it was great. Thick and lots of crab. Plan on trying lunch there soon.

Met the little sister for a birthday chowder. Wallys never disappoints in the Chowder department. The 5$ margarita special was the icing on the cake. Service is always a 10.

Amazing experience from beginning to end. Surprised how busy it was at 2:00 on a Wednesday, but it was also close to Christmas so people may have been home visiting for the holidays. We were seated quickly and the staff was prompt with our order. Great menu selection. The food was DELICIOUS. Truly the freshest and most delicious coleslaw I’ve ever had. Atmosphere is very fun and kept up well. Excited to come back next time I’m in town!

The food was delicious, staff was super friendly and attentive. This was my first time there. Clearly very popular, as they were packed and there was a bit of a wait. They did however have the option of sitting at the bar if your lucky enough to snag a seat lol. The food did take a long time to get out to us but it was worth the wait in the end. Drinks were also good and the bartender was attentive! I will definitely be eating here again.

If your in the mood for some really good seafood then don't skip Wally's! The deck has a view of the water and is my favorite spot on a sunny day. Food is always on point, service is usually quick but parking is the only down side. Parking is tight, still worth going tho.

If you have a little one, make sure to bring them for lunch, they always get to try the Amazing Clam chowder on the house.
