Love this place for years. Love Indian food. Chicken is so juicy and the flavors are awesome. I don’t eat spicy food and if you tell them mild it’s perfect. San Mateo Location has the best hours, San Francisco hours suck.

Clay Oven Cuisine of India in San Mateo is a fantastic restaurant that offers excellent service, delicious and savory food, and a cozy ambiance that is perfect for both date nights and business meetings. The owner is incredibly attentive and the cook is able to accommodate a wide range of spice levels, from very mild to extremely spicy. The quality of the meat, chicken, and all ingredients is top-notch and the restaurant is always kept clean. Located in a shopping area, the restaurant also plays great Indian music, making for a well-rounded and enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for delicious Indian cuisine, with an emphasis on the preparation, ambiance, quality of service, flavor and serving size, all of which are the best and perfect.

Just the very best! This is the best Indian Restaurants, I can eat here as they don’t use MSG. I’ve had others in other cities and my legs ache and that is a heads up that that particular restaurant is using MSG.
Love me some butter chicken!!!! Oh and a Taj Mahal beer to back it all up!! Can never go wrong here. A must try if your into Indian food.

Good was absolutely delicious - we tried several items and most are great. I am glad that my food connoisseur family walked out happy!!

I had great chicken tikka masala, samosas, basmati rice, naan, and a mango lassi. I got enough food to have leftovers for just $30!

I had the Tandoori Chicken from the clay oven roasted section. Amazing prices all over the menu, huge plus. Chicken was tender (assuming that's from the yogurt marination), healthy amount of spice though not very spicy and the veggies were awesome! You don't taste the yogurt so don't let that scare you from trying this flavorful dish.
I also had the samosas (comes with 2, great size) and the garlic nan.
Honestly can't go wrong here. Definitely coming back. Awesome for a date setting or if you just want bomb food for a good price. They also serve wine and beer fyi ;)

My girlfriend and I came here on a Friday evening. The owner and staff were very friendly. We asked for some additional changes to our entrees and he said they were happy to make them and accommodate.

I think the Google Review rating number belies the potential of the experience when you dine here.

Parking can be hectic, depending on when you come.
Walk in, you're heated by friendly staff, and you're seated. The restaurant is dim lighting, with a bar connected next door.
The food was delicious, fresh, and flavourful. Portions were good, pricing fair. We took our time eating andctalking, and we were not rushed out.

What can I say about this place. They have the best Indian food in all of California. I’ve tried other places but their food, service is top notch. They greet you when you come in. The server is attentive always. This is our spot we always come when we are craving Indian food. We live in fremont and drive over the bridge once or twice a week to come to this place. They’re appetizers, entrees and they have a lounge next door. I would recommend this place 100 times over and over. All my friends and family members have been told by me to come to this place. I cannot say it enough! Thank you Clay oven!

Hands down the tastiest and most authentic Indian food I've ever had. Plus the prices are much more affordable compared to other Indian restaurants. The serving size won't disappoint. So many different types of Naan breads, lamb chops were delicious, and the Tikka masala sauce is the most original recipe I've ever tasted and will come back for it 100%. I don't eat spicy but my friends do but all the dishes were made to our specific requirements as well. What a great experience!

This is my favorite Indian restaurant. The food is amazing and the restaurant is very pleasant. This is my go to for takeout as well. The portions are generous and the prices and good.

The lovely young gentleman host/server is so pleasant and kind. Really appreciate his gentle & attentive service any time I see him there.

Also, best tikka masala sauce for miles and miles. Creamy, thick, delicious, reliable, consistent.

Amazing food. Authentic Indian food. Top favorites - Baingan bharta, butter chicken,daal. Hard to find such a authentic north Indian food around. Do visit this place. :)

I went here in hunt of biryani with my friends, and we were more than satisfied, also had garlic naan, butter chicken, and indian style chicken curry. One of the best places in the area to savour Indian delicacies. Not only the food, but the ambience and the staff were also very hospitable. Special mention to Rohan, who took care of all our demands. Thanks and kuddos!!!

I order one vegetarian dish one lamb and garlic nam. My bill was 30.50!

Loved it. Delicious. Savory. I have had Indian food at a ton of places described as best and have been dissatisfied. This place surprised me and went above my expectations. My new favorite spot. I most definitely recommend. Samosas, sauces, the rice, the butter chicken and the garlic naan is to die for. Mango Lassi the best 😋

Others keep saying how the food flavored correctly but I have had the opposite opinion. Everything was flavored well and each dish had an option for mild medium and spicy. I think others might be having trouble with the all you can eat menu. So I would recommend ordering thought the set menu. I had a very pleasant experience with the waiter as he was attentive and would fill the waters frequently. He also did a good job warning me of the spicyness of the meal for it was perfect for me.

Amazing service and amazing food! My DoorDash order was never delivered and when I re-ordered from clay oven they included a complementary samosa and chicken tikka masala order! It wasn’t their fault and they still made it better.
