Wonderful museum! I loved it! There is something for everyone, Dinosaurs Geology War relics and memorabilia. The section on Native Americans was very informative and Respectful. The exhibit on Missing and Murdered Indigenous people and Showing of the documentary about it was incredibly informative and inspiring to cause change. This museum has wonderful resources and I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves learning. Admission was free and There is a gift shop as well.

The museum is a bit small, but it does have two floors. The staff is super friendly, and they have a lot of interactive displays. The museum is very well put together.

It was a free museum with relatively easy parking (free) on the road. The sites were fantastic and truly covered the whole state. There was a elementary class while we went and they seemed to be having the time of their lives!
Additionally, I was very glad to see a wall about how Indigenous women are going missing at an alarming rate across the US, but also Wyoming. It is important to bring attention to the problem.
Highly recommend going if you're in Cheyenne!

Such a great little museum. Near the capital and full of interesting displays. Our kids all enjoyed it, ages ranging from 10-15 y/o. Free to enter, with a donation box. They also had a great little gift shop with very reasonably priced items. Definitely a good stop on your visit to downtown Cheyenne!

My kids loved this museum. They had a great section that was hands on where the lights adjusted to represent different times of day. There were pelts and antlers to touch and it was great. I enjoyed the entire museum.

For a free local museum this was fun & interesting. The lady that greeted us at the door was really friendly. She told us about the museum, gave us some information about the museum, & hooked us up with some brochures for local attractions. The museum itself had exhibits about dinosaurs, the old west, & the geography of Wyoming. Definitely worth taking a couple hours of your time to check out!

Educational and diverse free museum. This place was bigger than I expected. Everyone working/volunteering there was helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable.

We didn’t have high hopes of this being a great museum, thinking how much could Wyoming really have, but wow we were wrong. The detail, artifacts and exhibits they have are cool and very informative. They covered a lot of different topics throughout the whole state.
It was free and we walked out talking about how much they had and all the information they offered when we almost skipped it to start. It was a little small but still 2 levels and could spend over an hour here.

Now this museum is definitely worth checking out! I have to admit, I think my favorite part of this museum was the kids area 😂. Two floors of SO much different information. From hunting, to pioneering, to state forests, to some dinosaurs and more! This museum got a little bit of everything! I don't want to post too much because I don't want to spoil the magic that this museum has to offer. You'll just have to see for yourself!

Our family loves the WSM! We attend the Family Days almost every month. They’re put together so well and our kids absolutely love them, we learn a lot too! I can’t recommend it enough. We come from Fort Collins and it’s absolutely worth the drive.

A wonderful museum with excellent dioramas of wildlife and fantastic exhibits on sheep ranching, mining, cowboys and pioneer life. Great for all ages. Plan to spend several hours. The staff are super nice and docent from Tanzania was a great guy. Their Native American exhibits were very educational. Children will love touching the hides of various animals. The National Park section was particularly good. Lots of good info on Yellowstone and wildlife, including the Yellowstone stagecoach.

The museum is so great! It's completely free to the public and they have an amazing area for the kids. I'll be bringing my kids back for future rainy day fun.
The gift shop is also pretty cool. They have something for everyone.

Very interesting. Spent hours in here. Really cool historical items, natural history, art, and being Native American myself I especially appreciated all the authentic native artifacts and the importance put on them. The honey taffy in the gift shop is a must buy as well.

Got here as they were setting up for family day. We were in a bit of a hurry but they didn't seem to mind at all, and left us to our own to explore. This place is absolutely interesting, and had I the time I would absolutely spend more time here. My favorite exhibit was the national parks exhibit, which was filled with so many interesting facts about the parks around this beautiful state. I was mainly here for the state capitol stamp passport booklet, but they sold out so they stamped a paper for me to add to my travel notebook. The amazing volunteers here are so welcoming and lovely! I will have to return to Cheyenne to enjoy more. Expect to spend 45 minutes here for adults, an hour to an hour and a half if you've kids (however, with how many activity stations I saw, I could see this being a 2-3 hour endeavor with kids). For two adults in a hurry, we spent 25 minutes running through, and I wish we had 15 minutes more to spare so I could look and read more, this is such a great free museum. 5/5 would return!

We are snowbirds and spend the summers in Fort Collins. We have devoted one day to visiting Cheyenne for the last several years, and this year was a visit to the museum and the capitol building. We highly recommend both. We spent about two hours in the museum which had exhibits that were interesting and easy to read descriptions of all the displays. Being originally from the east coast, we always enjoy learning about "the west" and all it has to offer. Free parking on the streets was plentiful and the museum was free. We highly recommend it.

Definitely worth the trip and free admission. Diverse collection, welcoming and friendly staff, tidy, thorough, interactive exhibits, reasonably priced gift shop, and accessibility options (low exhibits, audio and written information, elevators, big bathroom stall, easy to reach accessibility buttons).

This was an excellent museum and had a lot more than I expected. I think it summed up the entirety of Wyoming well. My favorite parts were the digital Yellowstone experience in the very beginning of the museum and the NPS section upstairs on the 2nd floor. Gift shop was nice too.

The family days are wonderful!! fun activities and access to the museum. They have an interactive room, really good experience for kids and adults. Also they have some activities by zoom, like exposition or conferences, some days ago was one about the bison culture, definitely one of my favorites museums!!
