Beautiful museum. Details the history of the railroad system in the United States. The second floor displays a very detail miniature landscape of Colorado with train and mini towns. The person who put it together, Mr. Harry Brunk, took 30 years in the making, past away this May (2023) at the age of 82. He made this huge project possible by dismantling a manufactured home.

Very cool places to learn about, see, and play with TRAINS! Learn about the history of Cheyenne and how the train depot played a big part in helping to establish it. It also has a lot of history information about Union Pacific.
Took us about 2 hours to go through the whole thing. Lots to read and learn about. They also have different spots to sit and watch short videos. You can call a phone number and get a free audio tour through the whole thing.
It costs $10 per adult, but kids 12 and under are free. I think 13-17 was about $7? It's definitely worth it. They also have a cool gift shop too. There are two floors to go through, and the second floor has a whole model set up. Look for dinosaurs. 🦖
Also, be sure to check out the Big Boy 4004 down the street after you go through the museum. It's awesome. It's at a park and it's free.

What a fun and informative museum. The model railroad museum upstairs is really fun. The detail in the buildings and surrounding forests, rivers and rock formations is phenomenal. The conductors are great and provide you with information. There are also 4 tiny dinosaurs hidden throughout the display, which adds to the adventure! Definitely a must see!

I LOVE trains!
I loved the diversity of displays to view in this train museum! I liked getting to view vintage uniforms, tools, books, and accessories. Another thing I enjoyed viewing was the second floor of miniature trains. The dinosaur scavenger hunt was a cute touch to the experience. And how fun is it to watch trains go by as you tour? Excellent experience.

Super cool experience, especially for the Train enthusiast, would recommend going here to learn about the history of the trans union railway. Takes about 1-3 hours to go through the whole thing.

Well worth the $10 adult admission fee. Lots of information packed into a small area. The 2nd floor is amazing, and apparently there's always a person available to answer questions.

I'm glad I came here.

Train nut from Colorado here.
There's a lot of history in this building, history of something that built a lot of this country.
I think the place is nice, in that there's a lot of stuff to see, but you're not really in a hurry, and the place doesn't feel crowded. Its right on the tracks, so you can watch the live action, as well. I got skunked when I was there, but that was just bad timing, more than likely.
The scale, I believe is original to the depot, and still works.
This was a fun experience. We'll be back.

Cheyenne depot museum and plaza is one of the main attractions of Cheyenne downtown. The depot museum is great place preserving the history of this city. Outside plaza is decorated with some great bronze sculptures. I would recommend this place to everyone. pParking could be difficult so find your place before this place get crowded. The museum timings are different so call them before you go.

Great museum for kids and adults - many exhibits and photos with interesting info (there was an article from the 19th century about a new miracle invention - telephone:) )
There is an area for kids to play with wooden train tracks and a place on the second floor where kids can control a model train. The museum run model train is impressive although it wasn't on when we visited. The gift shop has many options for train lovers and Wyoming visitors.

Wonderful for train enthusiasts! Learned a lot about the region and trains. Great activities for kids and adults with displays set up for a wonderful experience. Upstairs is the model trains exhibit where there are very knowledgeable staff waiting to answer any and all questions. It's a fantastic spot as it's location is right next to the railroad tracks and we got to see Union Pacific's Big Boy 4014 coming back from Denver Colorado.

Great piece of railroad history. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the wood train area and the HO layout on the top floor.

One of the static display Big Boy locomotives is actually up the road a little way.

On the top floor there is a great area to watch actual Union Pacific operations in the nearby yard.

One of the best train museums we have ever been to and we go to lots of them. Every aspect of the Cheyenne part of Union Pacific history is covered from the surveyors, to laying the tracks, to Big Boy and everything you can think of related to steam engines. The history was excellent and displays were great. It’s located in the historic depot and is quite beautiful. The rooms have audios of men who worked in the train yards and on the trains in various capacities there is an audio tour. The Cheyenne Visitor Center is also located there. A wonderful experience, give yourself several hours. And thank you Michelle for being such a kind and informative staff member.

Cool little museum with a lot of railroad and Cheyenne history! The model trains dioramas were cool but it’s a shame they weren’t operating. We didn’t have kids with us but it seems like they might get a little bored since there’s limited things for them to interact with. Lots of awesome detailed reading and history for adults though. The audio tour was cool too since it uses your phone and you just dial in for each area. Would definitely recommend if you’re visiting Cheyenne.

This was truly one of the greatest tours my father and I have ever done. You walk into the Stream Shop and Round House and you're in the presence of true giants of history. The staff were all so amazing and knowledgeable and you can tell they really love what they do. I hope to do this again one day!

I do so love a small museum. Some of the exhibits even engaged my 3 year old and we broke up our time at the museum with the toy trains in the stairwell. I really liked the day-in-the-life exhibits of the rail crews back in the day and I'm a junkie for anything about Big Boy 4014.

Very beautiful inside & out! We loved the tile work inside and the architecture throughout the building. The whole place is like a work of art. Anything that gives love to trains is a hit with my 2 year old. It's an amazing place to see the trains and learn about the history... It's also a great location near other tourist attractions.
