Why interrupt a 1350 mile trip? For a side jaunt that is really extraordinary, educational and full of history. Basically the 1930s to present day. They have WWII aircraft in detail and presented in a way non pilots or historians can understand. They also have interesting cut away engines I've not seen anywhere else. Postwar to Vietnam has the first jets as well as prop planes that are rare. You can sit in the cockpit of a jet fighter, touch a B-52 and see a B-1 up close. Aircraft that served Presidents are on display. Support vehicles are present. Special displays on the Tuskegee Airmen, the Flying Tigers in China, and the International Space Station add to the experience. I spent 5 rushed hours as I was on the aforementioned 1350 mile trip, could have spent 2 days. The docents were friendly and informative. No admission charge, supported by donations, this is the largest non-government aircraft museum.(It is on the Robin's Air Force base). About 15 minutes from I-75, make the stop.

Sad that all the cockpits are closed but it was still very interesting to see all the planes and uniforms. The history detail given for each item was impressive and the staff were very receptive to answering questions.
Masks are recommended but not demanded of you don't wear it.

Enjoyed! Lot's of history on airplanes, engines & technology. Amazing how we make equipment to use to protect our military, etc. Air Force Veteran wife learning how Staff Sergeant husband worked on planes to go to fight in war. Training our young men & women, what a honor.

All was so informative. Loved it. Will be back. Have had several family members in most of those wars so I've now got a better picture of what they went thru.

Such a fantastic local gem. It's amazing that this free place exists right in our home town. It's a wonderful place to take kids, especially when the weather is not cooperative for outdoor activities.

So many aircraft, weapons, vehicles, etc. that are slowly being forgotten. Great place to go on a rainy day (or even a sunny one)!
