If I could give Carelon -100 stars I would! My mother broke her hip & had hip replacement surgery. Once coming home, they only approved 2 PT visits. They denied the remaining visits requested by her provider! 2 visits? What idiots! These "medical professionals" read requests, submitted by providers in order for their patients to fully recover, and deny them so they can save the insurance companies they are working for some money plus put more money in their pocket because they're paid incentives to decrease insurance payouts! My mom has fallen 2x since coming home so 2 visits isn't enough. Most of those who work as 3rd party administrators for insurance companies don't have any type of medical training! The denial said "Your records show you need help to walk and to transfer. The approved visits should be enough to complete those goals. it is not likely that more home physical therapy visits will be medically necessary." Maybe a Carelon employee should make a home visit - an employee with actual medial training. Maybe their parent should be expected to be able to walk and transfer and get back to being independent, after hip replacement surgery, with only 2 PT visits! So, how much money will they be saving Aetna when my mom falls again, maybe injures herself worse than a broke hip, and has to be hospitalized again because she was only allowed 2 PT visits?? Oh, they won't know what hit them because it'll be not only my mom's medical expenses but our lawsuits for inadequate care & fraud charges against Carelon as they haven't even provided Aetna with any of this information. Aetna says my mother's provider hasn't requested add'l PT visits!
