I love aviation museums but was totally surprised with the Airbus that crashed in the Hudson on display! Great presentation. Plus a good display of military aircraft, mostly Navy and Marine. Although it was a hot day, still not uncomfortable inside even with no air-conditioning. But I am an old Navy guy and heat is never an issue. Well worth the visit.

Charlotte is really lucky to have an aviation museum like this in the city. It's a great attraction with reasonable admission fees, free parking and terrific community outreach. The highlight of the museum is the Miracle on the Hudson plane, which was headed to Charlotte the day in landed in the Hudson River in 2009.

The museum has been open for more than 25 years but is closing temporarily on July 14 and will be relocated when it opens again in approximately 2022. In the meantime, an office staff will focus on community outreach and education. The Hudson plane will not be on display during this period.

The 40,000 square foot hanger that housed the museum is being repurposed for private aviation needs.

The museum plans to reopen in a new, larger location in 2022. I'm looking forward to seeing the new space and exhibits. My family has had several great experiences at the museum and with the staff and we especially love participating in the annual community day events.

Great museum! It's not that big, but we enjoyed seeing all the aircraft, and witnessing with our own eyes the plane that had a miracle landing on the Hudson River was emotional. What an amazing, heroic story that is! We will definitely visit again.

Neat place for aviation enthusiasts. They have quite a few great examples iconic aircraft in really good shape considering their age. The center piece exhibit is the actual Airbus A320 from the Miracle on the Hudson. Lots of great info. The kids enjoyed the flight simulator and getting into a couple of the cockpits.
Keep in mind there is no AC where the planes are, but it wasn't too bad even with 90+ degree temps outside.

Very Cool! Planes that range from the first flights at Kitty Hawk to the US Airways Flight 1549 that landed on the Hudson in 2009. There are hands on exhibits, like sitting in a Cessna, sitting in a jet cockpit, in a commercial plane cockpit, and even a flight simulation. Definitely worth multiple visits.

For kids or people who love aircraft this place is great!. Small museum, but the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Good collection of old aircrafts and fighter planes. World’s first aircraft designed by Wright brothers and Flight 1549.

♡ It was an emotional and grateful day and moment . I can't even fully express my emotions. I was able to see and touch the Airbus 320 from the Flight 1549 also known as the "Miracle On The Hudson Plane". I'm honored to stand here, in front of the AC that performed the greatest ditching in the history of the Aviaton. ♡

The place is small, but every single airplane inside of it has a story that makes it all worth it. You can get up close to airplanes that have a amazing stories. The staff is espectacular. Even though the museum is self-guided, there are personnel all over that can help you and explain to you facts. Everything is labeled perfectly. They even let you go outside on the tarmac to see other airplanes they have and, if you are lucky, see other airplanes moving on the runway and taking off/landing on the airport.

There are a couple of airplanes that you can get inside of them and take a pictures as if you were a pilot. In addition, there was a airplane simulator.

Originally, I went to take my father that is a big fan of airplanes. He was like a little kid getting excited for every new airplane that he saw. He was definitely most excited to see US Airways Flight 1549 that landed on the Hudson River. An interesting fact one of the employees told us, was that the airplane only suffered minor damages when landing on the river and that the majority of the damages it currently has were caused by the boats moving it.

Definitely recommend it. I'm saddened that they have to move to a new place.

Interesting albeit small aviation museum with the "Miracle On The Hudson" USAirways Airbus on display as the show piece. With both indoor and outdoor exhibits, this museum is a good place to spend a few hours...like on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The F-4 and B727 cockpits are fun to sit in...especially for kids interested in aviation. It's not a large museum, but worth admission. Easy to get to at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, and free parking. No food is sold, but there is a small gift shop area.

Loved it.....if you are an enthusiast....must visit....they let you see the planes very closely when they open the gates of the hanger every hour on weekends.
Must try the flight simulator that is inclusive in the entry fee which is 12 USD

Had an opportunity to bring our family here during a family trip. The staff was super pleasant, and were almost as thrilled about aircraft as our excited 2 year old. Along with that, they are knowledgeable about the various aircraft in their care. There is more than one aircraft there that the staff can happily share details regarding its background

This museum inspired me more to want to travel and go to the military. My daughter was soo intrigued with the Boeing American Airline airplane. She wanted to know what happened in detail and who was there, how and why. Something educational in the Charlotte area for the family. We now have matching t-shirts to remind us of this special event. This is definitely a trip into history of aviation.

There's plenty of great stuff to see here. Highlights include the famous Miracle on the Hudson Airbus A320 and a beautiful Piedmont Airlines Douglas DC-3. Be sure to spend some time exploring the Boeing 727 and McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II cockpits.

The Carolinas Aviation Museum isn't large as aviation museums go and features both military (mostly Navy and Marine Corps) and commercial aircraft, but the centerpiece of the museum is Airbus A320 N106US, the aircraft that was ditched in the Hudson River by its crew on 15 January 2019 after multiple large bird strikes. The aircraft are all well taken care of and beautifully presented and the staff is very friendly and helpful. It's definitely worth the trip to Charlotte for; it was the primary reason I included Charlotte on my road trip and I’m glad I did.

The layout of the museum is great. There is a great selection of planes to view and the information on each is very well done. It is very humbling to see and read about what occurred on the Hudson River in 2009 but to be feet away from the actual plane...chills! Charlotte Aviation Museum is a MUST for anyone visiting Charlotte!

Educational and interesting. The staff is happy to share history and technology info on the aircraft. There are aircraft that we were able to sit in the cockpit, and a flight simulator. It is a lot of fun for young and old.

Visited the museum on a Sunday. I was very surprised at the number of people visiting. It is reasonably priced has a lot of great history. Each exhibit has plenty of posted information and history. My personal favorites we're the Piedmont DC-3 and Miracle on the Hudson. The hangar doesn't have any AC, which wasn't a problem since it was cool outside, but I can see it getting quite warm in the summer months. A must for any aviation enthusiast.

What a neat museum and definitely a must visit when in Charlotte! I thought I was not going to enjoy this and it looks small from the outside, however, it is a must see! The museum is in an old hangar. I was really impressed with the US Airways 1549 plane on display. This gave me goosebumps! I liked seeing the exhibit and learning more about this. Another cool part was all the period pieces and getting to see how aviation has changed throughout the years. I also like how you are able to sit tin the cockpit of a few of the planes. There is also a 3D flight simulator as well to try your luck at take off and landing. A really cool exhibit to walk thru and watch planes next door take off. Make sure to visit!!
