I have seen the You tube video with the Principal showing off the wooden board he and others use at this school to hit young people with, and I find it disgusting. How is it that thousands of schools all across America operate every single day without hitting anyone, but this school cannot? Thankfully this treatment is outlawed in most of our nation but not in backward rural places like this school district. Where do they get their wood boards called paddles from--off of some spank porn website? Most of our nation is trying to stop bullying and violence ,but here they promote it. Those that stand around and enjoy watching these young people getting beaten are just as guilty as the adult bully with the board.

As a former student I can trully say that this district needs a lot of improvement. The pops thing is true. When I arrived at Alvarado HS, my sophomore year, I honestly thought the other students were playing a joke on me when they told me about pops. I couldn't believe it. The school staff hit students on their butt about 5 times with the wooden paddle but they need to have a consent signed by the parents. I was never disiplined this way but I did have a classmate tell me they gave him the option to get pops or call his father after he got into a fight with another student. I believe it is the parents' responsibility to discipline their kids, not the school staff. I've always made sure my parents didn't sign the consent paper (that comes with the school packet) for my younger siblings. There are more reasons I don't like this school district but they are way too long and too many to list.
I have always said though, that they have a few great teachers.

The school is a complete mess. The students are forced to go to pep rallies, men can't have facial hair but that that ain't the worst part if you get caught selling drugs you would get suspended for a few weeks but if you sell chips to your friends during lunch they send you to another school for absolutely no reason whatsoever

The principal is on the internet showing off a weapon that he uses to beat (paddle)students with. The superintendent admits over 100 students are assaulted every year and the parents request the violence. The school trades Freedom (detention) with Violence (beatings). This is what is taught here--Violence. Please see Facebook: Alvarado High School Paddlings.
