Krista Marie Steffy, MD

I am so pleased to have found Dr. Steffy! She takes the time to not only listen but to also actively seek answers and solutions. Her compassion and care for her patients is rare in today's fast pace of get 'em in & out world. It is refreshing to know there are still good doctors that want to make a difference.

My wife and I recently moved to the Austin from Virginia. Prior to the big move we took a few smaller moves to find a house, a neighborhood, and a doctor. I am a disabled veteran so some of my health needs were pretty specific but all of them started with a family practice doc. I was a bit troubled to find a lot of practices were not "veteran friendly". After getting the boot from my 3rd practice a friend told me about Dr. Steffy. After just one appointment we knew she would take care of us. My wife and I are cancer survivors so setting up a health network was a must. Her connections are solid and responsive and her staff are no different.

I visited Dr. Steffy for my annual well visit. While she had a nice "bedside manner", her examination was brief and when I got the bill, I was surprised. She had asked me if I had any complaints and I talked about my sore neck. We discussed potential treatments like physical therapy and acupuncture, but there was not diagnosis or prescribed treatment. When I got my bill, there was a large fee for assessing my neck and another large fee for my lab visit. The lab work was all covered by my insurance, but not a lab visit fee and not the neck assessment fee. When I tried to approach her about it, she never responded directly and I only received responses from her office staff. No more Dr. Steffy or BSW for me.

I have gone to see Dr. Krista as a new patient as well as my annual physical exam, I have asked her about my allergy to melons n pineapple, and she recommended I see an allergy specialist. However, when I receive my bill, she has put a charge for asking me this question, which apparently is not covered as part of an annual exam. I have reached out to the office, and they said bc you asked about the allergy, you need to pay what wasn't covered by your insurance and suggested that I call atena in advance to check what is covered under my annual exam... WHY GO FOR AN ANNUAL EXAM WHEN YOU CAN'T ASK BASIC QUESTION ABOUT YOUR HEALTH !!! Also, I have mentioned a pap smear exam, and she said if your last one was okay, there is no need to do that for the next 4 or 5 Years !!!! I wouldn't recommend her, and please look for another doctor.
