Came in between lunch and dinner and service was super quick and the food is really tasty! We ordered the taquitos and a rice and bean bowl. All were delicious and fresh. If I could change anything it would be for the food to be spicier. I didn’t ask for a spicy sauce but will next time! Highly recommend!

Every time I've ever been here, The service has been good whether dining in or taking out. The staff are friendly and pay attention if you ask them to modify an order for taste or for allergies. They always offer additional chips and salsa for take away orders. They ask if you need utensils instead of making the assumption. When I have eaten in the restaurant, The atmosphere has always been pleasant, though, On busy days, it can get loud. They have a weekend brunch menu that features specialty items. And every month, a different list of specialty items as well. So far when I have ordered food I have always been pleased with the result.

I'm not a Foodie. I'm not a professional food critic. I'm not even someone who goes to restaurants more than a couple times a week. I'm just a guy who likes to sit down in front of a hot plate of delicious Mexican food and feel satiated when I'm done. This is the place I go for that experience. Friendly staff, good portions, great food, consistently fresh and delicious. Their Mexican corn is a treat and every burrito I've tried has been great. My son is simple; he usually gets quesadillas and the rice & beans. My wife lives dangerously and orders the enchilada of the day, usually without checking what it is. We've always been happy. The outdoor seating is a plus, even in the short Maine summers. We're in South Portland and when we want Mexican this is our place.

We both had burritos and they were amazing the yucca fries were also a highlight with thr sauces. We both loved the food and the atmosphere.

Casual counter ordering with fun funky decor. Better than typical Americanized Mexican! Great vegetarian and gluten free options. Also loved unique choices like chile pineapple skewers. Love trying local places on vacation!

We really like El rayo taqueria - they have delicious food and good drinks at a reasonable price. They have a good setup for social distancing, particularly if your dining outside... They are taking all the precautions! The rice bowls are delicious! Definitely a good spot to grab some hot Mexican food and cold delicious drinks.

Nice patio seating. Surprised at how good the food was, I mean, it's Maine not Texas after all. I recommend the fish tacos. Fast, friendly service too.

The food is always great at El Reyo. We went for lunch and I had a pescado bowl and my husband had tacos. We hadn’t been here in a while, and service is order at the counter for food and it’s delivered to your table. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch and will be back next time we are in the area.

Absolutely one of the best Mexican joints I've ever eaten at! The margaritas were SO good and the food was so fast coming out and was delicious. The Yucca Fries and Mexican style corn on the cob - to die for..

Excellent fish tacos...can be pricey so check out their specials. The Mexican corn is wonderful.

Went last week and the tacos, Mexican street corn were amazing. If your in the area you will it be disappointed. Great vegetarian options and good fast service.

Great food , great atmosphere, great staff. I’ve eaten here twice now and have been 100% satisfied each time and HIGHLY RECOMMEND eating here if you haven’t already discovered this gem of a restaurant and pub! Colin , one of the managers personally thanked me for coming in and said that he appreciates the business! There’s a lot to be said for a restaurant that takes the time to make sure your satisfied and let’s you know they value your patronage!!!

Popped in for lunch on a rando
Wednesday. Fast, friendly service. I ordered the Carnitas Burrito for $13.95. It arrived table side jamb packed with tender, juicy, well seasoned shredded pork, rice, black beans, crema, pico and ranchero sauce. One of the best burritos I have had in a long time! Fresh ingredients and very flavorful. It was great to be back at El Rayo!!

Great atmosphere. The specials here make it especially attractive. The margaritas are fresh and their food has a lot of flavor!!

My little family loves to go here. Food's always fantastic, and we love the atmosphere. Super laid back, and the customer service has always been great.
