Mode's Bum Steer

My parents have raved about this place for at least 2 decades and I finally got to go myself. Was not disappointed. The prime rib was amazing. You can cut it with a knife it's so tender. I also got the Steak and Mushroom soup... delicious. Everything was cooked spot on and we gorged. It's very pricy, but the prime rib was worth it. It's a simple, old-school dive with a trendy crowd.

The atmosphere and service were excellent. The food was pretty good, but was very expensive. Personally, I don't think $50 for a steak and potato is a good deal. Other than the place being pricey, it's a really nice place to go eat.

This restaurant has a great old time steakhouse ambiance and coziness that was irresistible. I sat at the bar as the tables were already full at 4:30 PM on October 11th. The bartenders were friendly and very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. I had the blue cheese wedge salad and prime rib - it was one of the best rib's I've ever had and rivals the top steakhouses in my home state of Oklahoma. I was in town to play Arcadia Bluff's golf courses. Highly recommend this restaurant as one of the best in Traverse City.

One of my top five restaurants and all of Traverse City. And they're open late.... Update December 2023. Prices went up a little bit but you can still get a wedge and a petite steak for $20. And it is fantastic

No frills steakhouse with a good menu selection. My strip steak was cooked absolutely perfectly, as was my wife's filet. Atmosphere reminds me of a classic Montana "out West" style bar/steakhouse. Service is impeccable!! The place was packed with mostly locals on a Tuesday night... That's a good sign.

My husband and I love going out to eat at Mode's. The food is always spectacular, the service is superb and we always know we're going to have a nice, relaxing dinner. I recommend it to all my friends and anyone I know who is coming to Traverse City from out of town.

Fantastic, friendly steakhouse with a 1970’s dive bar aesthetic. I’ve been dining here for years, and will for many more. If the menu looks like it might be your thing, don’t hesitate. Excellent service, food, & drinks. Skip the tourist traps and hang out with the locals.

Wow is all I can say. Snails, lobster tail, prime rib, red wine. Service was outstanding. This is an amazing place. Do not skip it!

A good recommendation. We got the burger, prime rib, and virgin strawberry daiquiri made with ice cream. Yum. It was pricey, but it felt homey and inflation affects all.

If you are looking for a great steak in a relaxed atmosphere, Mode's is the place to be. The service is fantastic and friendly, the food is delicious, and the whole experience is very happy. The place was packed but this staff knows what they are doing, we were seated right away and treated like we were the only ones in the restaurant. The steak was perfectly cooked to order and the rest of the meal was great. I would highly recommend Mode's Bum Steer!

Awesome!!! Prime rib was very good. Lobster tail was very good. Husband orderd the ribs and steak combo. He said it was very good. Especially the ribs. I tried the ribs. They are very good. Our service was great. It was packed for a Monday which I was glad to see. This place was not hurting for business.. We will definitely stop in every time we are in town.

After walking around Traverse City for an hour trying to find a place to eat and being told there would one hour or two hour waits, we stumbled upon Modes. We were able to sit at the bar immediately for full service dining.
The bartenders and wait staff were stellar, so kind and funny too.
The food was spectacular, not only the portion size but the quality were on point.
Where we live the meal and drinks would have cost twice as much.
Love this place and will come back next time.
Traverse City is lucky to have you!

The food was AMAZING!! I recommend the prime rib. It was very busy but we were seated within 5 minutes. Service was quick. Staff were friendly. We will definitely return

Nice small place with big eats. Excellent soup. Excellent prime rib French Dip and fries. Check out the catch of the day.

I was in Traverse City for work snd just wanted a good steak. Went there in a Saturday night and it was busy. I was seated at the bar immediately. Reviews were all about the Prime Rib and I figured I must try it. The bartender could not have been nicer. The prime rib was cooked perfectly. The wedge salad was huge. I recommend the mushrooms as well. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. You won’t be disappointed. The people who gave negative reviews should definitely go back and try it again. It’s an old school steak house and a delicious experience! BRAVO Modes!
