Wow! The food quality is comparable to Mexican food in California. The wet burrito is loaded and larger than my forearm. It’s on the pricier side but it’s worth every bit. The only thing I wish they would do is get their liquor license so they could serve beer with their amazing food.

Beautiful, homey restaurant, wonderfully kind peole, and amazing food.

So I'm lactose intolerant and forgot my pills and joked with one of the staff about what a bummer it was, they offered to make me a custom ordered vegan + chicken chimichanga, full of beans and spices, covered in guacamole, it was divine. Definitely found my main haunt for my time in Juneau.

Just a great experience.

Awesome food. My smothered burrito was big enough for two meals! And tasted great! Just what I needed today. A new favorite place. Thanks!

Chili relleno was legit, therefore the rest of the menu must be lit. Great atmosphere, friendly service, absolutely loved it.

I moved here from Texas almost a year ago where we are surrounded by Mexican food restaurants and since we have been here I have not found one I liked until today. Excellent food, great service, and they made you feel like family. Definitely will be visiting again! 😊

The building isn't particularly beautiful, but they've got it where it counts ...the food is fantastic. Every single item on the menu that I've tried so far has been a knockout. It's the best Mexican in Juneau by a considerable margin and among the best Mexican I've ever tried. The serving sizes, wait times and pricing (roughly $14 per meal) are all average, but, again, the taste of the food alone is able to carry the overall experience into five star territory.

Definitely recommended

Best Mexican food in town! Our family of four had lunch here and it was so good we cleaned our plates… we were still full when dinner time came.

This place is really excellent. The people who own it and run it are friendly, the food is awesome, and I love the custom artist designed tables and chairs. An easy place to recommend.

The chicken and pork tamales are amazing, making us go for seconds and thirds and still wanting more.

Something Wonderful!

Juneau is not a place know for its diverse and delectable dining venues. Sure, there are several fine places to eat here but you will often find similar menus. Not here!

If you are looking for Quality, Authentic, Mexican dishes then look no further. This places offers just that. They do orders to go and have a small dining are for dinning in. There hours are a bit short but the food more than makes up for this little inconvenience.

Just go once and I'm sure you will find yourself back soon.

Really awesome! I grew up eating some of the best Mexican, Cuban, South American, and island food you'll find anywhere, and this reminds me of home. I wouldn't mind a little more food with my meal, but it's at least all really good! Only place in Juneau that I'll go for Mexican food. I still need to try their tamales, but everything else has been great so far.

This is the best Mexican food I have had in the state of Alaksa. They are not going to win a decor award, but the best places never do. They could serve their food anywhere and it would speak for itself, it's just that good. Very authentic and homemade flavor!

So no photos because everything was gone before we got our phones out, but El Zarape, tucked back behind Costco and O'Reilly, back a bit on the left, is AMAZING!

My timing has been terrible to go in previously, but I finally got to have lunch here and it was stupendous! Expect about $10-$12 a plate, plenty of food, super friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and the best taste for Mexican food you'll have found in a long while. Unquestionably the best in Juneau.

They accept cash and card (though cash means more goes to them and less to the card processors) and they have a straightforward menu of Mexican goods which they are excellent at preparing.

People come to Juneau super excited to try some fresh local salmon or the like, but I would actually insist on going here first with anyone visiting me for the first time in Alaska. Its simply more worth their while than even our staple fresh fish.

Also worth noting, when I came in for the first time I presented quite masculine but was wearing a cute skirt and carrying a purse (I do like skirts) and was treated with exactly the same courtesy and respect as the two nurses eating lunch a table over, and equally as well as the rest of my family. Good food and good people, they deserve your business and you deserve their delightful cuisine! 😍🤤

Being from Texas, and for several other reasons, I KNOW good Mexican food.....and have been trying to find some ever since I moved to Alaska a year and a half ago. I travel all over for my job and try any Mexican restaurant I find. El Zarape is hands down the best I have found, so far. It was SO good, that I went two days in a row. I will FOR SURE be eating here anytime that I get to Juneau.

The staff here is excellent, and everything on the menu is delicious. The food isn't cheap, but I'm willing to pay for the quality. There are a few items that seem too small of portions for the price tag, but I'd still recommend to anyone.
