A Suttle little vault for The United States first President and First-First Lady, one built decades after his death, in accordance to his own personal will.

Washington and his wife lay in rest at the helm, as the patriarchs of the family grave, the grave is flanked by monuments noting other notable family members, that share a crypt with the beloved President.

Its a small but very peaceful and honorable tomb that rest on The Presidential Estate just a short way down from the home. Its an incredible part of history and a humbling spot to stand at and bare witness.

Awesome and most highly recommended experience, for all, but especially for any history buff.

An amazing experience to see our 1st President's tomb at the well preserved Mt Vernon grounds he so loved. George Washington's final will outlined that his final wish was to be buried at Mt Vernon. He also made it clear that a new tomb was to be made to replace his current family tomb that was deteriorating. In 1831, the President and his wife and family were moved to the new family tomb. George and Martha are out front, while the rest of the family is behind a wall behind the two of them. A short walk away is the entrance to the slave cemetery for the workers of Mt Vernon.

Washington family cemetary. The tomb contains George (on the right) and Martha (on the left). Other family members are buried outside the tomb. A solemn place to visit and pay respect.

Stop by if you're visiting Mount Vernon. The tomb, built in accordance with the will of the President, was completed three decades after his death. He and his wife and some of their family members were initially buried at the Old Vault just a few meters away.

Great to be able to see George Washington family’s Tomb. Great place to visit to learn more history. There’s a staff at the Tomb that explained about it.

Great experience that I shared with my then young children when we took a tour to visit Washington’s home & grounds in Mount Vernon 32 years ago.
So beautiful & peaceful, however I was shocked when I saw the slaves quarters, something that I don’t remember as being taught to me in school back in the 50’s & 60’s.
To see their tombs, & resting place was an eerie feeling, taking us back to feel part of our history, right in front of us.
I highly recommend an unhurried & leisurely visit.

I visited Mt Vernon and George Washington's tomb in 2015. My family and I arrived just as they were preparing for the wreath laying ceremony. The staff asked if any veterans were present. My brother, nephew and I had served and we were invited to lay the wreath and then stand next to President Washington's and Martha Washington's sarcophagi as Washington's "Prayer for His Country " was read. What an honor it was! I was so glad to share this moment with my brother and nephew. It is a memory I will always cherish.

This is the only place in the country with a real Washington memorial. It is beautifully maintained, and the people who visit are enormously respectful.

The old tomb is equally interesting in the sense that the first president of our country was initially buried in a very modest vault, something very much in keeping with his values.

If your in the area, this is a must see sacred place. Many people think that Washington's tomb is in the US Capital Building. There is a marker in the Capital but the actual tomb and burial place is here at Mount Vernon. Washingtons will was very clear that he was to be buried here. Beautiful Historic and Inspiring.

During my visit the tomb was undergoing some type of renovation.

Just the tomb of George and Martha and several relatives. It's worth a quick stop on your tour of the farm.

Something to see once in your life as an American. Washington and his family are interred here, but you will have to take the Mount Vernon tour (with a guide or not) to get to it.

Great spot. I'd imagine he is rolling in his tomb if he knew how bad shape the country is in now.

Nice quiet place for the Father of our Country to lie at rest. Enjoyed being able to present a wreath at his tomb.
