Alpha Design Custom Furniture

Sunday was our day to shop for a sofa in and around Berkeley. Of all our local trips to furniture & sofa stores, Alpha Design had the highest quality & best design with fabric/ shape options available. Their selection was just enough, and Hans was great to chat with-reasonable and helped us envision options for our couch needs. Did I mention most of his sofas had coils & are made in LA? The prices were reasonable, given the quality. By far our best interactions, when sofa shopping, were w Hans at Alpha Design!

Hans is great: knowledgeable and kind. He was very patient to answer all my questions and helped me to design the couch I wanted. The customized couch came out to be everything I wanted and more! Great price and great delivery. I'm so happy to have a couch that I can have for life.

My husband and I were searching for a new sofa in East Bay after the frame of our IKEA sofa bed broke in just four years. It was so expensive everywhere we looked and they didn't fit into our small living room. I was skeptical first when my husband suggested ordering a customized one. I am really glad that we stopped by Alpha. Hans was very helpful in his consultation. We made a decision on the spot and the sofa was made in good quality as we wanted. It was delivered rather quickly. The movers were professional and efficient. They even took away our broken sofa. The cost was no more expensive than what we found in the market. Hans gave us two extra pieces of fabric as cover to protect our sofa from our dog. I am glad we could support local business. I highly recommend this store.

I love the couch I got! The selection is excellent, the couches are very customizable (from the fill to the depth to the fabric to the size). I find the prices very reasonable for the quality, and the couches shipped really quickly. Hans was also very kind and helpful and really lovely to work with. All in all, I had a great experience, and I'm very happy with our new couch.

Buy your couch here. I don't know how else to tell you this. My wife and I purchased a couch here two years ago and Hans was wonderful in helping us choose and customize. His team was stellar with delivery and we have loved our sofa ever since. Fast forward to yesterday, 2 years after we purchased, when our couch would not fit through the door / archway of our new house while moving. We called Hans for advice and he and his team came by the next day and magically got the couch through the door. No hesitation, no fee. I still hardly know how they did it! By far the best customer service. We went in only with a vision, Hans was exceptionally helpful. We were choosing a couch which was beyond our budget, he guided us to a floor model which was very similar and within our budget. It goes to show that he’s not trying to sell you the most expensive piece. He helped us with fabric selection too. His team was very professional and were respectful of covid guidelines when delivering. Exceptional Service!

Hans was great to work with! We went to this store (DURING THE PANDEMIC MIGHT I ADD) and spent over an hour or 2 debating over what fabrics and styles we wanted. He was very helpful and patient with us while we picked elements out for our custom couch and ottoman. We expected the whole process would take longer than expected because of the pandemic but good things come to those who wait. We got our couch today, about a month and a half after placing the order, and couldn't be happier! It's EXACTLY as we expected, looks beautiful and is so comfortable. I highly recommend this business if you're looking for great service and quality.

If you’ve spent countless hours online looking for top rated furniture. If you’re physically exhausted from sitting and standing on a million different pieces that “don’t feel quite right”.... COME TO ALPHA DESIGN IN BERKELEY!

Immediately, Hans will welcome you to his show room where there are countless styles of seating to choose from. You will meander around the room and sit on clearly well made and very comfortable couches. Hans will personally explains all the specifications of his pieces and offer to take you to his wall of customizations. Hundreds of fabrics, patterns, framing colors, etc to choose from.

My wife and I were shopping for a sofa that would fit in a very uniquely sized part of our house. We began to measure couches before sitting on them. Hans informed us that he can have his pieces made to any specification we chose. Then we realized the couch we wanted sat a bit low in the back. No problem, Hans informed us we could have the cushions modified to our specifications as well.

Lastly, my wife and I were hoping to find a nice chair for our front corner window. While we were finishing details for our chosen couch, I mentioned to my wife how I wished a few of the amazingly comfortable sofas we’d tried could be made in single arm chair form. “Also no problem!” said Hans!

We left having purchased a multi-customized sofa and chair. We paid up front and they were delivered to our door in around 3 weeks.

Hans made the process simple and enjoyable. His customer service is second to none. We never once felt pressured or persuaded in any direction. Hans just walked with us, answered any questions we had and then allowed us to go through our process.

PRICING is right where is should be for high quality custom furniture. Feel free to go to some chain department store and get wood veneer framed mass produced furniture that feels cheap if you’d like. Or spend less than you would at the high end luxury furniture dealer for truly well-crafted American made top quality pieces at ALPHA DESIGN IN BERKELEY!

This place is amazing. We got exactly what we wanted (and ordered), and when it turned out that our "exactly" wasn't what we actually "wanted" the owner made the adjustments we needed to make it perfect, at no cost and on his own time. The kind of personalized service and attention we got from Hans is UNPARALLELLED. We have already recommended Alpha Design to a number of friends (something we simply don't do if the results are not 100% guaranteed). Hans has a friendly, quirky store that fits him to a T. Be prepared to spend real money for an honest value on high quality custom made furniture and plan 2 visits or give yourself enough time to go through the thousands of options available to get just what you want knowing that, within reason, Hans will do whatever he can to make your experience fruitful and enjoyable.

Great owner with great couches. The couches can be customized to any extent (fabric, material, design, shape, etc.) and the delivery time is less than 2 weeks. You can also get some discount if you ask for it.
