So so so good!! Been coming here for many years.

Food is INCREDIBLE! The flavor!! The choices! Can't say enough good things about it!!

UPDATE: Restaurant is open inside and out! Re-do is finished!

Outside dining: dine at tables under a tarp - it's protected from wind and rain - and honestly, feels great!

They also do an incredible job of offering composting and recycling on site and keeping it as low waste as a restaurant can reasonably be.

They have a parking lot across the street - one hour free parking. And there is street parking. Of course, this depends on what's happening, time of day, etc.

Make your order at the kiosk. Staff will help you if needed. Bathroom is by the kiosk.

Have a seat in the tarped area and they bring your order out to you.

The manchamanteles chicken was pretty good. The Salsa was very flavorful. I loved the option of corn tortillas. The staff was nice and the pickup process was easy. You can pull right by the restaurant and they’ll hand you the food so you don’t have to get out of your car.

PICANTE IS BACK!

For years, Picante was our regular taqueria. Our family would visit about once a week. Consistent, crowded, cozy, and comforting. After the sale a few years ago, and the pandemic, the quality suffered and the in-restaurant dining shut down. We tried going back a couple times each year and were always sad.

When the dining room reopened after the remodel, we decided to give it another chance. We’re so glad we did. The food was fresh and flavorful. And the decor, while not as homey as the old space, was clean and inviting. It looks like the glass doors to the patio open up which will be nice in the summer. The prices are higher ($5 iced tea) and the portions are smaller than they were (though these feel good).

We probably won’t be back every week, but we’ll be heading back for sure.

What can you say about Picante other than WOW! I was on my way over to my warehouse on Jones street where I keep a small supply of Brinker Hadley Soearhoffers and Pigtillian Langerhans for use in the bull run, and passed by Picante Restaurant....Well let's eat, I said outloud startling the woman on the sidewalk, and as I was parking she comes over and asks what we're having....I told her Mexican, and she said she wanted Italian and walked away. The food at Picante was Amazing! It was perfect in every way, 5 stars all day long. ☆☆☆☆☆

If you love Mexican food that’s rather health conscious, this is your spot. Their food is SO fresh, with high quality ingredients, cooked with minimal oil.

I ordered a fish taco and a shrimp taco which were both battered & fried but it wasn’t greasy or oily at all. Like I didn’t even have to wipe my hands on a napkin after picking them up and eating them 😆
Flavors were on point too.

Pretty sure their flour tortillas are house made, which were delicious. And the chips were thiiiiic .

This establishment offers a warm and inviting atmosphere with attentive staff. The food is served promptly, bursting with freshness, and boasts delightful flavors.

I lived in Berkeley and Picantes was my favorite Mexican place by far. The tortillas are hand made and the food has a California fresh fusion.

Although still being renovated, the patio eating experience was good. The food was amazing. I got the veggie tamales and the masa was fluffy and tender and the filling perfectly seasoned. The rice and beans were extraneous, but good. The salsa roja was the best sauce I've ever tasted. I'd put it on almost any savory dish. The kiosk ordering works well enough and food was delivered to the table promptly and courteously.

We had dinner at Picante. Huge variety of Mexican food! The fish tacos was delicious..so was the Nachos and the chicken burrito! Will highly recommend this place to anyone who's in the area.
The margarita was yummy. They also offer a variety of sauces! Loved the salsa Verde. Overall, a very nice place for casual homely tasting Mexican food. Will definitely visit for dinner again when I am in Berkley.

Been going here for many years and have always had a very positive experience. The owner is a true gentleman. The staff it's always professional and courteous . Hopefully, the interior will reopen in 2024

Yummy asada burrito, the sauce should be requested during the order. It taste s really good. You can call or order online, ready in about 15 mins, pay during pick up and really accommodating for covid regulations.

Great place! Authentic Mexican food with quality ingredients (by the way non GMO).
A great thing this place has is that you can eat POZOLE from Jalisco area or you can order COCHINITA PIBIL from the southern east Yucatan something that is hard to find as many places only focus on one region.

I went there with a group of 7 (3 adults, 4 children), it was our 1st time and I asked one of the cashiers and he was kind, friendly and patient.
We went to grab a table and a few menus and wrote down Mi order (something that I highly recommend to do on big parties).
Then I went to the cashier placed my order he explained to go to my table with a tracking device he gave me and someone will bring the food.

Unfortunately on my order we missed 1 children chicken plates (combination of being a new guest and cashier not listening well to my order but not really his fault).

A nice lady that seems to be a Manager came and said "don't worry, I'll bring the food" I asked if she wanted me to go back and pay she kindly said "it's on us"

Very yummy and tasty food, nice atmosphere and very welcoming staff.

Every one in our group loved PICANTE.

We'll come back muchas veces.

I've been coming here for decades and it's been reliably great the entire time. The food is always delicious, the service is always friendly and efficient, and the family-friendly casual atmosphere is relaxing and fun.

All these 1-star reviews are from morons who whined about having to sit outside during a remodel. Grow up.
That or complaining that the prices have gone up. Show me one, ONE restaurant where prices have stayed the same since before 2019.

Very delicious Mexican food.

Delicious food. This is authentic Mexican food. The owner travels to Mexico to learn real recipes. The wait staff is always friendly. Last visit I got a salad with carnitas.

Consistently delicious, healthy and hearty Mexican food in a family friendly environment with indoor and outdoor seating.

This place is fantastic! Great atmosphere - transports us back to Mexico every time. The food is beyond incredible and there are so many choices. You can't go wrong here - every single thing we've had so far has been scrumptious. The Mexican coffee is superb and so are the margaritas. The chips and guacamole, the Burrito, Super Nachos, Fish tacos, any of the soups - Azteca or Verde, the Chile Relleno - it's all good. The staff are all very friendly and efficient. This is a really well run kitchen as well. I have been coming here for over 20 years and have never been disappointed in any way whatsoever. This has been consistently excellent for me since day one. I promise that you will love it!

Even though they're remodeling, service was good and food was excellent. Good enough to devour and realize I hadn't taken any pictures.
