Giovanni's Produce & Grocery

Looking for an amazing produce / natural / local / specialty grocery store in El Cerrito ? You’ve found it. As someone who shops at farmers markets and has worked in specialty food and goes to international stores for hard to find ingredients, I was blown away that Giovanni’s literally has everything I would ever want to buy including large jars of grape leaves. The outside is low key. The inside has everything you need.

I love Giovanni's. I've been stopping in there for after school treats since my oldest was in Preschool down the street (he's 10 now). I love to pick up local pastries (Stonehenge scones) and produce for dinner when we're in. They've always been very friendly to my boys, despite the fact that they are a bit wild. They also have the best produce around. Their potatoes are second to none - they actually *taste* like potatoes.

Aside from loving that they are down the street, I also love how they are always adding fun, local and international, specialty foods and some good solid organic brands as well as all the staples.

Wonderful friendly neighborhood store with a nice selection of food. Acme bread, pistacio gelato bars, italian cookies, a decent selection of cheese. Run out of something when guests are visiting or when you are in the middle of cooking a meal? Chances are Giovanni's will have what you need.

This was a convenient little produce market before the pandemic, an old and locally owned establishment that it felt good to support. But WOW did they rise to the occasion when folks stopped wanting to visit the bigger grocery stores! They have so much stuff now! They’re close to being a one-stop shop — only missing a butcher counter. But they have SO MANY STAPLES, plus fresh Acme (and also shipments lately from a Point Richmond bakery that makes a mean sourdough!) and amazing local pies, pastries, and galettes. Also, some really nice and reasonably priced produce, organic as well as non-. Also if you’re into Italian cuisine, they’ve got some great imports. They also keep expanding their wine/beer/alcohol selection. If it isn’t already obvious,,I just love this place — and everyone who works there is friendly and helpful, which makes it all the better.

We love Giovanni's. The fruit and vegetables are fresh and beautiful and the baked goods are great. The dairy selection provides whatever we need. The staff is very helpful. A pleasant shopping experience in a safe enviroment.

Good produce, hot sauces, fresh bread daily, wine & beer selection, tortilla chips, self-service deli , and various sundries. Friendly & easy access.

Love this corner market. Good produce, wines, deli case, dairy and basic staples. This family operated business has been a sweet community cornerstone going on 30 years. Thank you Bolla family we value you greatly.

I’ve lived in El Cerrito for over 20 years. Giovanni’s has been my favorite walk to grocery - it’s got great produce, a surprising wine & beer selection, a tempting craft chocolate and ice cream on offer and Italian cheezes and olives.

Great little local bodega. They have Catahoula beans for less than you would pay at their location, but, of course, you won't get a free cuppa with your purchase

The staff was delightful, and there's a GREAT produce selection. There are melons there I don't see anywhere else, and this fruit bat appreciates it! Not many toiletries, go here for unbruised fresh fruit and veggies, as well as all other good staples (bean, rice, corn, bread, etc). I would comment that I'd appreciate a selection of butchered meats, but Chef Rene serves up fresh-grilled bbq outside the storefront on Saturdays and Sundays. The hot links were delicious, and his homemade bbq sauce isn't for the faint of heart. Next weekend I plan to make greens, yams, beans & rice,and pick up some bbq to dish it all up with. Highly recommended :)

I love Giovanni's and rely on a quick trip in and out with great produce friendly service. I also love the funky music.

Great place on Potrtreo avenue in El Cerrito you can slide into for Acme Bread, Catahoula Coffee, local pasta, cheeses, meats and the necessities. Open everyday until 8 pm except Sunday they close at 7 pm. Local joint to support. Slide through

Well im not Italian but i love salami on my walk back from work i always stop by people in the store are very nice there open and they keep every thing they sell on stock like my favorite salami enjoy shopping there folks .

Great selection of european food and fresh fruit and veg. The total is always cheaper then I think it's going to be.

Great neighborhood grocery store with excellent produce prices. I just moved out of the neighborhood and will miss this place!
