Oakland Public Library: Oakland Tool Lending Library

An amazing public service run by an even more amazing staff. Although technically not ‘free’ since everything is paid for by taxes - there is no additional cost whatsoever to borrow tools from this tool library. Just bring your Oakland Public Library card and a registered piece of mail with your address on it and you’ll be able to get setup. Most of their inventory is online at the OPL website, but the staff said to always call ahead for the most up to date inventory.

This is such an amazing resource! The tools I've borrowed recently have all been great quality in great condition. And the folks that work there are very friendly and efficient. Thank you Oakland Public Library system!

The tools and staff are truly a blessing for the community. I don’t have the money to buy all the tool or the space to store them. And even though I’m a renter, I have stuff I got to get done. Thank you OPL!

Love the Lending Tool Library for everything gardening to landscape and repairs to home. The staff is delightful, friendly and happy to provide information. There are too many tools to describe, so I shot a couple videos to try and capture what they have to offer, and posted some requirements (residency in Oakland , Emeryville and Piedmont), etc.

Tax Money well spent here and back to our community, we need more funding for tool library, we need more tools. Our tax money should go into more public services like this, other than bureaucracy and nosense catagory

What more but the magic of finding books and being able to take them with you when you have to leave? And maybe grab some gardening tools on the way? The library is what you need!

First it’s amazing to have these tools as options to lend as part of the library system. So lucky. In general the selection is pretty good. The place is small but doable. Highly appreciative and highly recommend.
