Izakaya An Japanese Restaurant

Soooooooo happy this place came to Concord!!! Just when I was feeling we moved to a culinary desert, surrounded by Little Cezars, Starbucks, and a Golden Coral (that Concordians are enthusiastically excited for some reason) Izakaya An has arrived!

We popped in here being cautiously optimistic for some Japanese cuisine and we were overly suprised how delicious it was!!! If you've been to Japan or you're seeking a truly more traditional place this is spot on. Udon was amazing!

The karaage, udon(chicken), mixed tempura, pork belly, and beef skewers were DELICIOUS!!! The only thing that made it better was the smile on their faces and the sweet lady that owns the place coming out to say hello and check on us.

There were three other tables there with people having fun and seemed to be enjoying their food too.

Love this place and will certainly be back to keep supporting this wonderful family establishment! Thanks so much for the great food and service!

The Asahi was promptly refilled too :)

The woman who waited on us was a delight. The sake she recommended, came in a can, was delicious. The food was great and felt very authentic (haven't been to Japan so I could be wrong, but it didn't come across like most of the American Japanese restaurants I have been to). 10/10 and my wife and I will be coming back. Too many things we still want to try. I had the udon with chicken and she had a meal set with Saba Mackerel. Awesome!

The food is IMPECCABLE. It is always high quality, from the fish to the mushrooms to seaweed to tea. I've been a few times and they are so warm and welcoming. The aesthetic is cute and the music playing was sooo relaxing, what a dreamy atmosphere. Not to mention the fancy bathroom, there are even toothpicks and mouthwash.

Any place that serves Orion beer has a special spot in my heart. We started our meal with an order of fried chicken cartilage which is a sure sign of an authentic izakaya.

The Chirashi Don was delicious: expertly prepared sashimi over perfectly seasoned rice.

The Grilled Miso Black Cod was exceptional. According to my wife, the type of Miso used was legit and the accompanying Kobachi were wonderful compliments to the meal.

The yakitori set was spot on, tasty sauce slathered over charcoal grilled skewers of chicken, pork, shrimp, shiitake, and Japanese yam. Cho oishi daiyo!

If you’re looking for the quintessential izakaya experience you will be hard pressed to find anything as legit as Izakaya An. The owners were friendly and highly accommodating to me and my family. We will most definitely return to try the rest of the menu!

One of the most truly authentic Japanese izakaya-style restaurants I've found in this area. I've been to many izakayas in Tokyo and the food here is exactly like I remember from Japan. Also one of the only places I've found that does tempura really right. Really, I'd be perfectly happy just eating their kinpira with some Kikumasamune Taru sake for hours on end, though.

Great service, quality food, authentic atmosphere. Reminded me of restaurants in Japan. Seafood soba, and ginger pork were delicious. Will be returning.

Took a little bit to get the food. But on arrival, the food was amazing! Cooked or raw. I had the sushi combo and chirashi don. Then some belly fat skewers and Japanese yam cooked, seasoned, and sauced deliciously. 10/10 recommend this place for sushi and sashimi. If you’re willing to wait for quality, you’ll get it here. Also, the shochu mix is on par here. Totally recommend it with calpico.

Had their Tonkatsu ramen, the broth is rich and creamy, all the toppings were delicious and the pork had a delectable char along the edge. Noodles had a great texture, not over done, even though the food came out piping hot.

Wish I could make their sunomono at home, the pickling was delicately sweet and tart.

Sashimi cuts were generous in size and exceptionally fresh, with a clean flavor and perfect texture.

Love that they are family owned and operated, everyone was very sweet and attentive without feeling crowded.

Decided to try on a whim and ended up being the best thing possible. The food was exactly what we were expecting and more. Top tier customer service! Made us feel so welcome and laugh so hard <3 Definitely coming back when I get thr chance

So freaking good. The food was so good. The service was awesome! The young man was very attentive and knows 5 languages very impressive.

Safe to say there isn't better Japanese in the East Bay, and I'd go so far as to say one of the best eats in the area, full stop. Had to find some decent Japanese for my wife who was missing home, and since finding Izakaya An we haven't looked back. Lovely owners, fantastic food, and great value; once this place starts to circulate you can be sure there will be more written--a true hidden gem. (For those reading during COVID-19, they do takeout and outdoor dining)

loved this restaurant! it reminds me of the little Japanese restaurants I went to in Japan. you will find the usual fair here but you will also find hidden gems that you don't find in other Japanese restaurants.

Honestly, their nigiri is one of the best. I don't know what kind of clout you need to comment on sushi, but let's just say I've eaten at many omakase dinners and have eaten at Shiro's who was an apprentice of Jiro. For being located in Concord, this is a diamond in the rough. We've been to other places around here and they are respectable, but without a doubt everytime we have a craving for sushi, we order from our special mom and pop shop here at Izakaya. Please continue to support their business because I do not want them to go anywhere!

I accidentally found this amazing Japanese tapa place (Izakaya). If you’re looking for true Japanese family style food, this is the only place I found within Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, and Concord. That’s why there’s no fancy sauces or “teriyaki” options because the food here is “authentic.” 😋
Let’s talk about the Udon, the soup is very flavorful but not salty at all. You can taste Katsuo (skipjack tuna) and rich natural vegetables flavor. The Udon noodles taste soft yet chewy, not the average frozen Udon you found in other places. My wife loves their Daikon Mentaiko (pollock roe) salad. It’s a great light appetizer as itself, but goes well with white rice too.
We also love their Tamakoyaki (rolled omelette). Most of time, you can find sweet and soft egg rolls in many places. Izakaya An style is very mild and smooth. The portion size is very satisfying ❤
If you’re used to American style Japanese food, you will be surprised by this place. The food doesn’t use tons of salt or spices. Don’t be disappointed because this is how great family style Japanese food is supposed to be 😉

Izakaya An has delicious authentic Japanese cuisine. I loved it and the owner is so nice. The sake flight is good and every single dish and sushi we ordered was all so good.

This place is a hidden gem. The food is fantastic, authentic Japanese fare. Friendly service and reasonable prices. Added bonus that they are open reasonably late as well.
