The Original Red Onion

Have been coming here since I was a kid and this has long been a favorite spot amongst locals. So many great memories here and service is always excellent. We love red onion and will continue to eat here often!

We held our class reunion Saturday lunch here! We had a wonderful buffet with terrific options. The service for our very large group was very good. I heard the margaritas were excellent!

Very decent restaurant with a long history. Well vibes with nice services. Salads are always good choices. Bacon rolls are surprisingly good.
Sometimes they are too busy and large group area might be too noisy at weekend.

Been here a couple times. The food is always fresh and delicious. The price is unbeatable in California. First time I had “two enchiladas” with Mexican potatoes and zucchini. It was a big plate loaded with yum fresh ingredients(took half home for midnight snack). Second time we did takeouts, fajitas for two is a feast. A thick layer of veggies, tons of chicken, super tender skirt steak and 6 big shrimps. Two sets of sides and sour cream+guacamole+copped tomatoes&onions. Even takeouts got a full bag of chip&salad.

Busy, really busy. Almost an hour for a table but that was at 6 pm Friday night. On the other hand, great service and the best food. So many places just get sloppy. My fajitas were perfect…the right amount of veggies, chicken, cooked just right. Served hot and sizzling. The best prices too. Fast bartender too!

The best tamale i've ever had at a restaurant. Just a little masa and a whole lot of chicken. I ordered two to go that were not at all the same. Consistency is important!.
There were pinto beans in one and a few kernals of corn in the other, and the masa was thicker and just not at all the same as what i experienced in the restaurant. Be consistent.

We really enjoyed the food at this restaurant. While it is located in the RPV area the food cost wasn’t bad.

The sampler was good and filling. It was so filling that by the time our main food came out we were feeling a bit stuffed. With that said, the food tasted great the next day.

Glad we ordered desert. It was well presented and had the right amount of sweetness.

Our waiter was very attentive and friendly.

My only complaint is this: why is there no Horchata? This is a Mexican restaurant right?

The Red Onion is the go-to local restaurant for almost everyone in Palos Verdes. It can get very crowded because it is so popular. There is also a bar area that serves food. The food and the margaritas are delicious. The menu has plenty of choices for everyone. It’s definitely a crowd pleaser.

I've had family dinners, pandemic takeout, and company lunches at Red Onion. Everyone finds something good to eat from their menu. My husband recommends their chicken enchiladas. Service is excellent - not only polite, but also kind. I have had one accident of a raw steak that was on me because I didn't specify my preference of medium cooked.
There is free ample parking.

We had a great evening here with family members who love this place. The wait staff have worked here for years - even decades so they're highly skilled. It's an extensive menu of Mexican dishes. The meals when they came were colourful and tasty.

Great selection of delicious Mexican cuisine at this historic local jewel. Make sure you read the restaurant's history on the first page of the menu. Although the beautifully appointed interior is not currently in use, the restaurant has set up a large shaded outdoor seating area to comply with COVID-19 countermeasures.
We had a great selection of classics and all were fantastic. The rice and beans had perfect texture with crispy rice and creamy beans. The ground beef taco had a perfectly crispy fried shell, the carnitas platter was flavorful and delicious, the tamale perfectly combined tasty pork with just the right amount of cornmeal. For a smaller appetite, the street tacos (i had shrimp) were perfectly sized and combined just the right flavors with cilantro, pico, and two salsa types on the side.

A really nice Mexican restaurant with waitstaff and a full bar. I highly recommend the jalopeno margarita and the chicken mole (it contains a sauce that has chocolate as an ingredient - I know, sounds terrible but it's in fact my favorite dish).

Can't wait to come back here. I don't think they take reservations. It's not very busy on weeknights, but you may need to wait if you you come on a Saturday night.

My family comes here because they can accommodate the food allergies of a family member. The service is great and very efficient. The food tastes great, and the plating is spot on. There is plenty of parking on the street in front and the lot in the back. There are more handicap spots than usual, which is a plus for those in need.

If she’s not working… we don’t go.
Ronnie’s vibe & welcoming personality is what has made us a regular.

Red Onion catered the last wedding I coordinated, and working with Jeff and his catering team was a great experience. Jeff and his chef came for a site visit and helped me plan both the buffet and the serving logistics. He was very each to reach for questions and flexible with the menu. His catering team showed up early, set up quickly and were ready to go once the cocktail hour ended, and they bussed tables and helped clean up, too. The food was incredible - I don't live near the restaurant, but the tacos and enchiladas would definitely be worth the travel. I love wedding vendors who make my job easy and my clients happy, and Red Onion accomplished both.

Yummy! We ate indoors. A table for 6 in the corner. I had a chicken enchilada with Spanish rice and veggies 😋. Hadn't been there in years. 2 bowls of Chips and salsa were brought to the table. We will be back.

Always great food and ambiance. I had a chile relleno with sweet corn tamale (combo 15). I've had other meals including chicken mole and I have never been disappointed. Drinks are also good.
