Maru Coffee

I’ve been coming to this Maru for years, even before they started roasting in-house, so I’m finally giving the review they deserve. The first thing that strikes you is that even when the place is packed (which it often is), there’s a bright tranquility to the space; usually including good music and an air of creative energy from people working and collaborating while sipping their cream tops. I became a cult follower of their almond milk matcha latte, but their core competency lies truly in their phenomenal espresso. If you brew at home, you can’t leave without a bag of their beans. Overall, this coffee sanctuary has been and will continue to be one of my must-visits every time I’m back in LA.

This coffee shop was so good that I came two days in a row on my recent trip to LA. I heard good things about this place online and after visiting it lives up to the hype.

The coffee here is really high quality and done in small batches (you can even see their roasting setup behind one of the doors). Beyond just delicious coffee, they also have whimsical signature drinks like the cream top iced espresso which won me over. It was the perfect blend of acidity in the coffee with creaminess from the foam and spices on top. If you’re not in the mood for coffee, the matcha here is exceptionally well made too.

Aesthetically the inside and outside of this shop are beautiful which makes visiting or working here great. It’s located in the Arts District near other popular shops so make the trip out.

Prices are lower and quality ohh so much higher than all the chains. Great staff, beautiful food and drink. Menu with some fun alternative drinks, most flavored for grown ups though. Do not go here if you are looking for a Cherryberryblaze Frappuccino or other sweet nonsense.

Really great staff. Coffee tastes like coffee but isn’t too sweet. If you’re a fan of sweeter coffee you’ll have to ask them to add a little flavor :)

Maru coffee is amazing. I get an iced vanilla latte, sometimes two. It has a superior taste for true espresso lovers. The cream on the side is a must. It is pricey but a very nice treat. My only complaint is that they do not make large ones, as I drink it too fast! Amazing, especially if you are tired of the chain coffee places.

Maru Coffee is pretty hip. Cool music, nice places to work, and really interesting people.

The place is clean and quiet. We ordered cream top and have a rest. Several people are working in their laptop in the shop.

This place takes you somewhere, the minimalism is so good for my mental health. All the hipsters and artsy people go here, reminds me of Seattle. The cups for here drinks are so… AMAZING! This is a hidden gem and right in arts district. yaaas.

of course the coffee is really good. I also ordered cream top, you don't find it anywhere else, perfect strong ice sort black topped with sweetened cream.
Diverse clientel, many folx bringing their laptops, the setting seems to work well.

Matcha latte with extra sweet cold foam on the side (since they don't add it on top of the drink anymore). I really like the atmosphere here, quiet and calm. However, there are not many seats so if you are looking to come here to study or work then just be aware. Their matcha is very strong and yummy. I am quite picky about my matcha but I have never had any problems with the quality of the drinks here. I would recommend if you are a matcha fanatic like I am.

Favorite coffee shop to chill and see interesting people. Oh, and the coffee is good too ha. I usually get the cream top. Departmento the boutique is in the back which I think most people aren’t aware of. I probably went there 10 times before I realized that. Friendly staff that always smile, hard to beat.

Go here to feel like everyone else is hotter than you.

Lovely coffee shop to get a drink and get some work done. They roast their beans in house so it might get a little noisy. The lattes I got were delightful and refreshing.

I have yet to find coffee anywhere better than Maru coffee. I get cold brew, Cortados, cream tops, Mochas, that little Bon Bon thing that is so good, none of it has been beat yet. I'll let you know if it ever is.

Maru Coffee is such a vibey coffee shop. Lots of seating inside and great coffee. There is ample street parking as well, which is a plus especially in DTLA. Great customer service too! 😊

Obsessed with Maru and have been coming here everyday! Get the iced latte with sweet cream - it's so delicious and fragrant with just the whole milk 😋 Parking is on the side, but free. Lines can be long and busy, but short if you're lucky.

Went there early in the morning. Really nice atmosphere with good music to work or just enjoy some coffee. Had a cappuccino and a matcha latte (was excellent as it was smaller than at many other places so it felt like the matcha was more intense).

EXCELLENT! I’ve been following them for a while on Instagram and finally made it. It definitely exceeded my expectations. I got the drip which was 9/10, my wife got their matcha and it might’ve been the best matcha we ever had. Usually I don’t like sweet coffee drinks but I had to try their “cream top”.. absolutely delicious!! Highly recommend! Real coffee people making real good coffee.

Very cute cafe and the coffee is very good! Once you step into the store you can smell it. It’s a great place to chill out with frds! Get Cream Top!!!
