I’ve been coming here for over a year and I can honestly say this is the most welcoming dojo I’ve ever been to! EVERYONE is humble and willing to learn from one another. The energy in this place is fantastic because the way it’s run. Professor Kevin Howell and his wife, Haley Howell (brown belt) and great. I was hooked on the first night. Now they’re family.

This gym is ran by Professor Kevin Howell and Haley Howell.

It's a laid back gym with chill surfer vibes and no mandatory brand of rashguards or Gi. Despite its easygoing atmosphere, the people that train here are no slouches. From hobbyists to ADCC competitors, the gym offers a variety of talented training partners. J2L has a perfect blend of Gi and No-Gi classes with the best scheduling possible in my opinion.

Upper belts are kind and will take their time to show you techniques. All around J2L is a very good gym with a very welcoming community. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to start their BJJ journey.

Let me tell you about what kind of people the owners of Jiu Jitsu League are.

Only a month or two after joining, I decided to fundraise for a 5k run for non-profit event for Parkinson's disease research for my father. Of all my friends and family, Hayley and Kevin were the FIRST to donate money to my fundraiser. Totally unexpected and appreciated. I honestly thought I was just going to be a number like any typical gym membership. They and all the members have been super supportive with me inside and outside of Jiu Jitsu.

Let me tell you about what kind of people I meet at the Jiu Jitsu League.

I live in a neighborhood with the worst parking conditions. I took an Uber to class one night. After one of basic classes, one of the members who I JUST met during that same class offered me a ride home. I could have been a serial killer or lived in Canada, but that member offered me a ride in his car without even knowing me.

Everyone at the gym is supportive and friendly. I was able to make friends very fast. There hasn't been anyone I didn't like or am afraid of.

The new location has plenty of parking, larger mat space, a filtered water fountain. There is a minimalist feel to the new gym. Less is more.

There is a Starbucks, Chipotle, BWW, Ralphs grocery store, Ulta, AMC, Barnes and Nobles, BOA ATM and local shops/restaurants that share the same plaza as the gym.

The gym schedule is awesome. In addition to their schedule, they now offer 9AM drilling classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. There is even Open Mat on Sundays too!

The gym also uses a brand new $500 Dyson vacuum cleaner to clean the mats. I bet there is no other gym in the universe that has invested in a Dyson to clean their gym.

There is positive karma and good vibes glowing out of this place. You don't meet great, genuine, and kind people like this everyday.

I will defiantly stay as long as I can here. I am extremely thankful to be part of this community. Thank you Kevin and Hayley!

an amazing bjj school. I can say with absolute honesty that this is one of "thee" best places to study. Great atmosphere, good people and stellar training. the head coach Kevin Howell has trained and studied under some of the best to ever do it. He is a wealth of knowledge on old school techniques and blends it well with the new school. if you are passing through and love bjj they are friendly to visitors. If looking for a great place to learn bjj, this place has it all. giants to the small and young to the....not so young, all getting it done together. Kevin Howell knowledge in bjj is staggering. Always improving always pushing us. I've had the good fortune of making this place my home. come over and get a roll for yourself, you will see what I mean.

Super friendly and welcoming environment. Dropped in for a 6am while my team was in LB for worlds. Got a great warm up, instructional session and plenty of live rolls. My teammates came back and dropped into an open mat and everyone welcomed them with open arms, even offering pointers after the rolls to my teammates competing at worlds that week. Overall great spot, would definitely come back the next time I’m in the Long Beach area! Ossa

I called to ask about training here while visiting from Out of town. The owners responded very quickly and were helpful in getting me current schedule details. So I Dropped in for a no-gi a.m. class. I’m a novice who has only been training a few months. Everyone was very welcoming, friendly and trained safely. Gym was super clean and all county covid health mandates were followed. I will definitely be back when I’m in the area. Great atmosphere and training partner.

I visited this gym while I was in Los Angeles and it is by far one of the better gyms I have visited.

The instruction by Professor Kevin is of the highest quality. He is constantly making sure that his students are improving their game and is also having a good time. Training there is challenging but yet still very fun.

The atmosphere at Jiu-Jitsu league is very welcoming. Even though I only trained there for a day, by the end of that day, it felt like I had been training there for a while. The instructors and the members there make you feel very welcome and comfortable. All skill levels are welcome and are treated with respect.

I was visiting the area for a couple of weeks and looking for a place to train. As soon as I walked in the doors of The Jiu-Jitsu League, it was very welcoming. Everyone introduced themselves and was friendly. The gym is very open with a lot of mat-space. The place was full every night, everyone has solid technique and the workouts were great. Kevin and Haley are awesome. Kevin is very personable, understands how to teach and extremely knowledgeable. Although I was just visiting, he treated me like a member of the gym. Definitely going back the next time I’m in town.

I started training with Jiu Jitsu League a few months ago. A friend referred me here. I couldn’t be happier training with this family run business. Professor Kevin and Hayley are fantastic coach’s. There is a great vibe at the Jiu Jitsu League. It shows with the class and skill set of the practitioners who train here. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first class or you are a seasonal grappler there is something here for everyone.

The Howell’s are both so welcoming! I could not have felt better walking in there for the first time. Sometimes it can be really intimidating training at a new place, but not at the Jiu Jitsu League. The dojo itself would best be described as minimalist, clean, and comfortable. Looking forward to training here a few nights while I’m in town! I came to roll a little before Worlds, so I haven’t taken an official class yet with Master Howell, but I’ll will give an official review on BJJ Interact once I do!

What a place this is. We went to Long Beach from the UK for the kids Pan Ams and all being from different gyms, we tried to find a place that was neutral. What we found was much more than we were hoping for. Kevin and Hayley opened their arms up to us, allowed the kids a little area of the mat to train all week, ithe coaches included them in the adults warm ups, invited them to the kids classes and even picked them out to flow roll with. Everyone and I mean everyone at the gym was so welcoming and there were no issues whatsoever about gym affiliations or politics. Highly recommend finding this place to go and train if you're in the Long Beach area, wonderful people and wonderful clean gym. To top it off, the kids won the Pan Ams too and that was helped massively through being able to get training in each day.

This is a very welcoming and inviting Jiu-Jitsu gym. I've tried out other gyms in the area, but this place reminds me of family. There is so much respect among instructors and students.Head instructor Kevin Howell is always giving excellent positive feedback and motivation.
If you live in the Long Beach area you definitely must try this place. You can't go wrong with a free 30 day trial and free private session.

My wife and I have trained BJJ for a while, and were visiting Long Beach. We found The Jiu Jitsu League online, and recognized Professor Kevin Howell as one of the authors of Jiu Jitsu University. We ended up taking 3 drop in classes while visiting, and EVERYTHING about the school was excellent. First and foremost, it was immaculately clean. The first thing we saw, entering the school, was a mop -- and after every session when we were there the students cleaned the space. The instruction was excellent, and the professor teaches classes regularly (unlike some schools where you are not guaranteed to ever train with the founder or black belts). All of the students were very nice and welcoming, and while we were there they went out of their way to teach us and help us improve (again, not common everywhere, especially for a drop-in class). In all of the classes, we were encouraged to roll with higher belts, and got mat time with everyone, including brown and black belts. The general vibe was extremely friendly, and while it is clear that the students are all very high level, they were not unnecessarily aggro or spastic. Literally every day since leaving the area, we've both talked about how much we liked the Jiu Jitsu League, when we plan our next trip out there, and how we wish we were training there now. The Jiu Jitsu League is an exceptional school with a positive atmosphere and a culture of inclusion and support.

I dropped in for a couple classes here when I was down here for work. Kevin and everyone there is very welcoming. It's a great mix of a relaxed environment with well-paced classes, good rolls, and a great workout. I wouldn't hesitate to come back if I'm down in the area again! Thanks!

Great place to BJJ! Dropped in for a couple of days of training while visiting from out of town. One of the best spots I've been in the world for getting beat up in a safe, friendly, controlled environment. Very legit coaches and training partners with no silly aggro vibe. Will definitely be back here when I'm in town again!

While I was visiting the Long Beach area for work I was looking for a solid BJJ gym to train at. After researching a few different spots in the area I decided to give The Jiu Jitsu league a shot since they are a part of an amazing association like Atos, which is headed by Andre Galvani. Kevin Howell and everyone at Jiu Jitsu League went out of their way to make it feel like I've been a part of The Jiu Jitsu League family since day one. Kevin provided awesome technical instruction, a ton of attention to detail, and a friendly but competitive sparring environment. All of his students definitely follow suit and were friendly, had amazing technique, and were great training partners. Definitely one of the best gyms I've ever been to!

I've been at J2L for about 2 months and really love the training and atmosphere. Kevin is extremely knowledgable and willing to help you train, learn, and grow. I also have learned a lot from the seniors such as Vince who also teach and help everyone grow and learn. The atmosphere is really welcoming, new students are always recognized, and seniors are always willing to help others out especially during Saturday's open mat class. If you are looking for a place to train check out out Jiu-Jitsu League.
