Beautiful spot, and worth visiting. There's a built in boardwalk that, albeit short, makes for a pretty walk. You can stop and overlook the ocean and if you're lucky, see seals lounging on the rocks. And a gorgeous trail/path that's curves along the coast, providing amazing views the whole way.

We reserved a disabled RV site with a distant view of the ocean, which was walking distance by foot, wheelchair or walker. Close to nice bathrooms and showers. Beautiful flat boardwalk around the ocean and back through grasslands. Picnic tables and sandy beach. Public parking and bathrooms nearby. Dogs are l
Allowed on a leash. We only wish the park had RV hookups.

Beautiful beach. It was a very nice place to walk. I Loved seeing the squirrels. Although please don't feed the wildlife, it's very prevalent that the population of birds is affecting sea life
when viewing the tide pools. There still a lot of different types of crabs other types of sea creatures although we sadly didn't see any star fish. It's a great place to see seals though.

One of the best State Park California has to offer. There is hiking, walking paths and of course the beautiful Black Sand Beach. The camping sites are big and includes a fire pit with small half grill. The bathroom is nice and clean. The shower are nice and are quarter operated, the entire park staff was friendly and full of useful information about the surrounding area. The of the best parts was getting to see all the different wildlife including deer, birds and of course the late night visitors like racoon and skunks.

The best place to get firewood was a lady right off the hwy 1. It's a small house with huge piles of firewood out front. It's approximately 3-5 minutes from the entrance to the state park.

I highly recommend this park for anyone looking for amazing coastal camping.

Awesome park that I've always driven by. It offers great views of the ocean and seals, with free day use. Glad I finally checked it out.

An exceptionally beautiful state park that is well maintained and cleaned. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. There are bathroom and shower facilities open to those camping here.

Make sure to bring layers as the mornings and evenings can get a bit chilly. Also note that you will need to pay to park here. If you are camping here each additional vehicle has an extra charge.

This destination is absolutely worth the drive and detour. The views and serenity are incomparable.

Stayed at Surfwood campground and it was great. We could hear the ocean waves at our site #113 and #108. Most sites are large we have a 34 foot motor home and we fit just fine. Sites are on grass so you may have to level. You can hike, bike and watch the seals on the rocks. A beautiful place

Great camping place, lots of places to hike and use bikes/ scooters. Staff are very friendly, we came after hours and host at our west pinewood campground was very friendly to meet us although she was getting ready to go to sleep.

Nice large campsites with easy access to the beach. Fabulous sunsets and an opportunity to see some seals.

Beautiful oceanside state park. We camped in the Pinewood campground and the beach access/tidal pool area is really close... walking or biking distance.
The coastal parking lot is fairly large with restrooms and picnic benches. This is the closest you can get to access the boardwalks. If this lot is full there another parking area just a fe hundred yards back next Lake Cleone.
The tide pools are amazing! Kids will love exploring and it has never been crowded. It's quite peaceful. You might spot seal lions and other wildlife!

Never camped here but we like to come and hang out. Nice trails along the beach or rocky tide pools (tide dependent). Great place to watch the seal pups. You can be amongst the people near the bathrooms. Or park in the lower lot and walk along the beach for a more secluded version. Bring a bike for a longer ride along the beach.

My favorite state park in Mendocino. The sunset views there are always magical.
Day use is free, and there’s always parking available.

Loved this place. Beautiful water. Seals sunning on the rocks. Lot in a little bit of the low tide. Tide pools had hermit crabs, small crabs and fish. Fun fun fun!!!!

Great place to visit, definitely my calm place. Parts of the beach isn't too over crowded with people so it's perfect to wine down and watch the waves. Also, the tide pool is amazing! Got to save a starfish without touching it ofcourse! It was stranded on a rock in the hot sun but was able to move the rock it was on and placed it in a shady spot in the water! I recommend to anyone that visits, also make sure to visit the visitors center. They got some interesting things, you will not be disappointed!

Beautiful grounds, a well paved path. Great for tide pool viewing, or walk along the beach that seems to go on forever north. Bathrooms are available at the visitor center and a few at the campgrounds. Campgrounds are nice and inexpensive. I took my family of 6 there manys times, my kids love it there.

A beautiful beach with great views at every angle. Easy to navigate through with soft dirt paths. You'll observe wild life running around, a few bird species. Cliffs are climbed easily, however I would suggest wearing anti slip shoes. Waves come crashing in with a milking whiteness. And if your there late enough the beach will become misty and adds to the beaches beauty. Flowers, grass and much more are present. I would recommend this beach. I look forward to visiting again!

Beautiful... and we visit frequently... but wish state parks would fund much needed repairs and long-term maintenance projects

Excellent park and campground about as close as you can get to the ocean itself. Great paths to walk to the beach, 10 miles long, as much walking as you can handle. Tide pools, wildlife, park staff were extremely helpful and cheerful. Bring a windbreaker as it is often quite windy even on warm days. Enjoy!
