Merritt House Hotel

In hindsight, I'm glad I was not able to book a room for a conference at the larger hotels and instead found this little gem. Kind and professional ladies in the office were helpful. The rooms were clean and spacious. The shower was large and classy. The king bed was comfy. Despite the street traffic noise funneling through tight spaces of the property towards the rooms, not having people noise was refreshing.

This place is very unassuming, but so quaint and comfy. It does have a fridge, but no microwave. Our King room was surprisingly roomy and the bed was comfortable. They give you a log for the fireplace which is really easy to use. Everything is within walking distance to downtown. We would definitely stay here again.

We had a wonderful time at Merritt House. The staff was extremely kind and was quick to respond over the phone / via texts. The room was super cool and they provided a bottle of wine for the special occasion we were celebrating. Walking distance to everything you need. HIGHLY recommend

Fantastic! Loved this little hotel. Quaint decor and spacious rooms within ideal walking distance to all the activities near Cannery Row, the pier, and Alvarado Street. Its also immediately adjacent to a small neighborhood market! Great place to walk over to get some cheese and crackers to pair with some wine on the balcony. 10/10 would visit again.

Parking is TIGHT. Anything bigger than a Traverse, you're in trouble. Rooms a bit stuffy if it's over 70 degrees. But the location can't be beat, rooms a surprisingly large and very comfortable.

I stayed here for two nights, and was happy I did. There is a pretty garden area right outside the rooms, the staff is friendly and accommodating, and the rooms are unique- I got the "shabby chic" room. Breakfast is 8-10am, and includes fruit, hard-boiled eggs, oatmeal, cereal, pastries, coffee, and OJ in a dining room area. My bathroom was pretty small and bare-bones, but my room was huge and included a fireplace and a patio area. This isn't a big, corporate hotel, so if you want a 3am check-out or fancy amenities, I'd recommend going somewhere else. If you want a cute room right near the center of town and walkable to Fisherman's Wharf, I'd recommend this place.

Loved our 3 night stay at this lovely little hotel. It is quaint and more like an inn. However you can’t beat the price for the location. The lush courtyard that our room (#3) opened up to was also a plus. I would definitely stay here again when in Monterey.

Things to note:
-The rooms do not have AC bc of the climate in Monterey. You will need to keep your French doors open to let in cool air.
-There is a fireplace for cold nights.
-This is a historic hotel, so a bit outdated in decor, but I think that’s what makes it quaint.
-Parking is an extra $10-15 and spaces are tight. I have a large SUV and was able to park, but mostly bc it wasn’t at capacity.
-This location is close to the fisherman’s wharf rather than Cannery Row. I loved this side of Monterey with little kids. You definitely could walk or bike to Cannery Row or rent a family bike.

Again, for us, great for the price.

The Merritt House Inn was very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to help us. I was in a two queen beds room. It was decorated with a golf theme. There was an abundance of pillows and towels. There was a fan in the room as well as a TV, alarm clock, and coffee maker. There was a mini fridge under the sink in the bathroom that was empty and just there for us to use. The location of this hotel is very convenient. We were able to walk to lots of different restaurants and sites.

Great location in the city. So many shops and restaurants within walking distance. If you're a guest parking is free which is key bc street parking is limited and mostly metered. The room is adorable. Almost like a mini apartment. Very spacious with a large vanity area. It is right next to a market/liquor store and the first night we were woken up by loud music coming from a vehicle we are guessing was parked in the liquor store parking lot. Not the fault of the inn though. Would Definitely recommend and stay here again.

The Merritt House is the best. Our room was clean with no odor, nicely decorated without being pretentious, quiet, conveniently located in downtown Monterey, had a nice breakfast and dining room, the personnel were attentive and pleasant, and I'll try to stay there again. I got extra hotel points for arranging this stay.

What a charming hotel. The people that run it are incredibly nice. The room was very spacious and had everything you could need. Free Wi-Fi and real mugs for in room coffee or tea too. The continental breakfast was fresh, local and delicious, not to mention with a clever and delightful way of laying all the options out on a bookcase. Would absolutely stay here again!

We traveled to Monterey in a large group and we all stayed at the Merritt House Inn. We enjoyed our room, the friendly staff, the great breakfast (quick & easy), and the location in walking distance to town. Jason went the extra mile on three different occasions for individuals in our group that I know of including myself. He was awesome! The rest of the staff was also a delight!

Overall we had a good rest and with the recent upgrades last year, the room was very comfortable. A fireplace for the winter but no AC during the summer. Also, no windows to open.

First time staying at the place and enjoyed it thoroughly the room to acquaint well decorated and comfortable very quiet low-key and centrally located to downtown Monterey and Fisherman's Wharf great day overall good job Merit house will definitely stay again

I found this place in a travel website and loved it! It is quaint, quiet, friendly, affordable, and close to the ocean and cannery row. I found the staff to be very friendly, and the other guests as well. It doesn't feel like you are staying in a hotel, more like a cottage.

Great personal service, staff made us feel welcome and our stay memorable. The rooms are cozy comfortable and well maintained. Great downtown location and walking distance to the fisherman's wharf.

A charming boutique hotel with historical significance. Comfortable bed, full amenities, continental breakfast with personal attention. Lovely gardens. Always welcomed with sincerity. Can't wait to go back.

I have stayed here twice and i love it! The location is great and there is a nice market right next door. The staff is friendly and the breakfast is good. The rooms are spacious and cute.

Love this place. In the morning they offered breakfast juice coffee tea, fruit, Bagels, English muffins, cereal w/milk, yogurt, hard boiled eggs. Very good. Would tell my friends and go back
