California's oldest tobacco shop, awesome selection of quality cigars and wines. The owner, Mr. Wyatt Miller and everyone there are all really friendly and nice! It is strongly recommended if you would like to enjoy a good cigar. Can't wait to be back in Monterey to visit Hellam's!

First time here, and it was the best first impression I've had from a business. Guy at the front was friendly and offered help and advice. Purchased two cigars for myself and my friend. He offered to cut our cigars for us. We took the offer after coming back from Alvarado Street Brewery and were offered a loaner lighter after I realized I had forgotten my own. Definitely will return when I come back to Monterey and will HIGHLY recommend to others.

Spent a few nights in Monterey and found this spot 2 blocks away from hotel. It's RARE for me to smoke consecutive days, but I enjoyed the 1st night so much, I went back the 2nd night! Wyatt was a great host. Lot of good company and interesting conversation. Never had wine with my cigar, but the Rioja Spanish worked well. Definitely a nice spot

Had an excellent cigar recommended to me here. It’s definitely my new favorite. Enjoyed smoking it with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. Owner’s are super friendly and the atmosphere is great. One of the highlights of my trip to Monterey and I will definitely be coming back

Beautiful place, that's why we entered at first. We stayed because the owner was a really nice guy and because we were in business for an old cigar box to give to my guitar-builder uncle. We got a box and about a year later it's a fully fledged three string bass! I also got a pack of 'Punch' cards to add to my collection. Highly recommend you go, even if you don't smoke

Hellam’s is a great experience. Medium sized, but excellent cigar and wine selections. What really stands out is the wonderful atmosphere; the history of the location is really well respected and represented. The owner, Wyatt Miller, is great to talk to and must be commended for running a great establishment.

First, this is one of a nicest and most inviting cigar shops/lounges I have been in.
Second, Wyatt was such a nice gentleman and he was so friendly to me and my fiancé. He has a great selection of cigars and wines for any pallet. If you come here you will not be disappointed at all. Thank you again Wyatt!

This place may be called Hellam’s Tobacco & Wine Shop, however, this felt more like a cigar focused lounge. A very nice one at that. As I do not drink, this didn’t bother me at all . It’s a nice place to sit back and have a conversation after a long day. The green walls, dark wood, and jars of tobacco feel as if you’re stepping back in time. The owner, Wyatt, just might introduce himself with a friendly smile and a handshake if you stick around long enough. This place was such a joy to visit and a change of pace from the surrounding area. Located on Alvarado street, if you’re looking for something more rowdy, you’re sure to find it close by, but this ain’t it. I can’t recommend this place enough to fellow cigar enthusiasts and tobacco lovers. I only wish I lived closer so I could visit more often. @unknownreservations

Every time I visit Monterey I come to Hellam's. The owners are wonderful people with excellent tastes, and the atmosphere always feels like a home away from home. Best place for a cigar, a blend of pipe tobacco, or a drink in the area.

3/28/23 Update: I was just passing through to stop by for some pipe tobacco and the store is as welcoming and friendly as usual. I wish this location was where I lived. I would be there so much they'd start charging me rent. God bless you guys!

THE best cigar store in California. Wyatt, the owner, is also the best. Great selection, great service and now with the renovations, a perfect mix of modern and classic features for this historic cigar parlor.

Along with Monterey, Carmel and the Central Coast, one of the few places we truly miss after leaving California.

Don't miss this location if you love tobacco, spirits and a warm and inviting atmosphere.

I was in town for a conference and wandered into the shop the first night, as it was conveniently located across the street from my hotel. Proprietors Wyatt and Ellen could not have been more hospitable, creating such a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. I had such a good time chatting with locals and other visitors, I returned the next evening... and the next, as well!

For all the golfers who come to (go to) Monterey for a pilgrimage to Pebble Beach - this gem of respite is an absolute MUST…
Definitely stop by before the round of golf to pickup your choice of cigars. If you are not a cigar aficionado, Wyatt Miller, the mild mannered, smiling owner, will guide you, educate you and make recommendations for you to make the perfect selection for your taste. Alternatively, you may be handcuffed into smoking a “I don’t know that brand” and “this has no taste” one-and-only-cigar offered by the golf club.

Great cigar shop. We were super happy when they started serving wine. Just wished you could also drink beer there...maybe soon. Either way, the staff is always super friendly and helpful. Don't hesitate to ask questions about their cigars. They will cut them for you and you can smoke em in the shop. We spent several nights just chilling at Hellams. Wish we still lived nearby.

My wife and I were visiting from out of state and came across this absolute gem! We partook in some cigars and had a nice glass of wine. Wyatt is an absolute gentleman and scholar of the highest order. Whenever we are back in Monterey, this will be one of our first stops! Thank you Wyatt!
