Monterey Surf Inn Downtown

One of the best hotels we’ve stayed in while on our stay in Monterey. Rooms are spacious, clean, and provide all you need. The best are comfortable, big tv, two dressers, huge counter space, and great bathroom. A/C is amazing. Double screens/curtains for privacy and deadbolt on door. Lots of room to move around and be able to actually set your stuff where you need it. Fridge/Freezer works great.

Rated high, due to recent updates, from older style, single story, old style motel.
Complete repaint, update. Pool remodeled.
Driveways , parking, resurfaced.
Happy, helpful reception staff.
Short drive to food outlets, marina and shore walks, etc.

Very basic motel, BUT, if you're just looking for a place to crash and shower this is the spot. NOT over priced at all, and more importantly my room was clean. Only "complaint" I had was the TV remote was a hit and miss, but honestly that doesn't take away from the price and the cleanliness of the room. Definitely recommend this spot if you don't plan on staying in the room all day

This motel has been nicely renovated and they are about to re-do the swimming pool this winter. The location is great, right across from the Del Monte shopping center and the small Dahvee Park where you can have a pleasant wooded walk, and minutes from everywhere you want to go in the Monterey/Carmel area. There are many motels on Munras Ave. (and I have stayed in most of them) but what makes this one better than the others is the NEWLY renovated rooms with a large wall-mounted flat screen TV, good beds and bedding, laminate wood floors, stone-tiled bathrooms, and attractive outdoor seating areas. There is a good size fridge and microwave in each room and the Ninja coffee machine in the reception area allows you to brew the BEST cup of coffee every morning, noon and night, far superior to the in-room coffee makers offered in other motels. But what really sets this one far above the long line of motels on Munras Ave. is Mike, the front desk manager, who REALLY KNOWS HOSPITALITY! Trust me, the front desk people at the motels on Munras Ave. do not know their business. Mike is a professional (I wonder if he went to the Cornell Hotel school) and he really knows how to treat customers in a friendly, polite, informative, courteous, helpful and positive way. He is the best manager I have met on Munras Ave. (and I have met most of them) and he, along with the renovations, make this my NUMBER ONE CHOICE in Monterey!

The room was very clean, the man at the office was very polite, the maids did an excellent job keeping the room spotless. The beds were very comfortable, TV was perfect I will definitely stay again

Great place to stay while traveling. Front desk gentleman was so kind and showed he cared for his guest. There is some construction going on but was we were ok knowing that the owners are invested in their property. Room was clean and had a mini fridge and microwave. Upgrades where apparent and king bed was comfy. I’ll definitely stay here again if traveling through Monterey. Highly recommend this motel. Great price and good accommodations. Thank you front desk guy who made us feel welcomed.

Other than the pool close for renovation. Everything else was great.

Not quite sure why the reviews are negative. If you’re looking for luxury then sure. I came with the simple intent of overnight stay for layover. I got here and definitely exceeded my expectations. Sure, rooms were smaller but you’re paying lower price at the beach. Tv was huge with all but premium channels. So I enjoyed that. Nice little mini fridge and microwave that you’d expect from a hotel. Bed was comfortable felt like memory foam not spring. Definitely got my moneys worth!

Newly removed rooms and swimming pool and Barbecue area in the process of being remodeled.

I got a clean room. The sheets were fresh. It had basic amenities like towels, soap, shampoo, plastic cups. Restroom was small and missing a bathtub plug but it was really clean. One of the cheapest in the area too. I loved the fact that it was very close to a Vietnamese restaurant.

I was pleasantly surprised at how this hotel exceeded my expectations considering the cheap price I paid and how cheap their prices are relative to other hotels in the area. Although the restroom is quite small, they were very clean. The sheets were fresh, the room was neat, I had a good size bed, and there was always someone available to address guest concerns either at the front desk or when calling on the telephone.

It's a good Hotel for short term stays, or if you need a more affordable place in Monterey. Nothing flashy, but it does have everything you need. the staff though was super helpful though, and even helped me get a refund when the company I booked the room through was being difficult. Would stay again if I ever need a place in Monterey!

Excellent value, good location, comfy bed, more extensive TV than most. Good bedding and towels, some finishes like floors need upgrades but overall very good - I extended stay! Dylan the MOD and staff were great ambassadors for the property. JUST WATCH OUT FOR HIDDEN FEES ADDED TO TAXES, INCREASES DAILY RATE BY $10. APPEARED TO START IN OCT 19. ANOTHER THAT DOES THIS SNEAKY INCREASE IS ARBOR.

Great stay! Reasonable rates and very clean and nice beds. Rooms on the far end could have road noise, but with the AC fan running we didn't hear a thing.

I stayed here for 11 days out of the blue and I am completely satisfied! Very clean place, I couldn't hear the people in the other rooms, sweet staff, safe place to stay and close to grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops and places to go see. I will recommend this place 100% and I plan on staying here in the future as well.

Everything you could need just outside of town. The room had a comfortable bed, TV, WiFi, fridge and microwave. The shower was great, too! Town was an easy drive away and there were plenty of parking spaces.
