My wife and I were introduced to Douville Home Group through a family member who had just purchased their first home in Tacoma earlier this year. As first-time buyers in an absurdly competitive market, making all our decisions remotely from Atlanta, we were knowingly entering a potentially nightmarish season. Thankfully, we had John and Catie.

I’m hesitant reading rave reviews about anything, since some can come off hyperbolic or insincere, but I’m unabashedly writing one now, because John and Catie were a perfect fit for us. Tacoma lifers with proven success in a competitive market, as well as experience building and renovating, they had an answer to every question - and I ask too many questions.

We felt completely at ease making decisions virtually with John’s transparent and direct approach. He struck the perfect balance of advising without pressuring and encouraging without sugar-coating. In the end, we passed on our first two considerations and closed on our first offer (in our preferred neighborhood, *and* with a full inspection), despite the highly competitive spring market.

We’ve been settled a month now and are in love with our home and neighborhood. In a hectic season of life, John and Catie took the stress out of home buying. We really can’t recommend them enough.

In February of 2020 Tonya and I stumbled across a home listed on Facebook Marketplace and we made arrangements to take a look. We feel in love with the house that was just the right size for our needs, in a great neighborhood, and just inside our price range. The only hitch? It was a for sale by owner listing. Neither of us felt comfortable taking on this task without having a detailed knowledge of the whole home-buying process. He set us up with a fantastic mortgage agent, Becky Thompson, and everything started moving to a March closing date.

At the last minute some financial issues with the down payment appeared and I thought the house was not going to happen. John took my panicked call and calmly walked me through the steps to get qualified for down payment assistance, and Becky worked with me to get a new loan in place. We closed on March 20, 2020. The day before the pandemic shut down everything.

When Tonya needed to stage her townhome, Catie jumped in and took over that task and did a fantastic of job of getting furniture, wall art, and more set up in Tonya’s Seattle area home.

My wife and I arrived in Tacoma intending to rent a home for us and our two little daughters aged 3 and 1. Within a week of being in town we were really falling in love with the area and realized there was an open house down the street. We wandered over with our kiddos just to take a look and were warmly greeted by John and Catie, who were hosting the open house, and happened to live right across the street. We were initially really excited about the home and immediately took down their numbers in case we wanted to make an offer. After a second look we realized that this particular house was going to be far too great of a project for us, but we were absolutely sold on the idea of buying a house in the area.

As first time home buyers we had no idea really where to start. John offered a free two hour first time home buyers class and did an excellent job on clearly outlining the process, potential strategies, and general state of the current market. I was also curious about how one gets into real estate as a profession, how John and Catie split their tasks, and generally got to know them a bit better. Afterwards I still felt pretty new to the idea, but had a much better handle on what to do next.

John recommended an excellent lender, who was local and very responsive throughout the entire home buying process. We got pre approved for a loan and began the hunt a few days later. John was willing to meet several times a day, any day of the week, in locations that were sometimes over an hour away. His opinions on houses and neighborhoods in the area were always informative and insightful without being over bearing.

If it would have just been me by myself I probably would have bought the first house we walked into. But, luckily, my wife has a far higher standard. John was always accommodating to our whims during our month long search for the right place.

John always smiled and patiently tolerated us as a family. When the house we were buying needed smoke detectors he installed them all on his own time.
