Great bakery with a simple breakfast and lunch. I had a croissant with fruit that was delicious and my friend had a salad with a very nice homemade bread. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Crowded during lunch. Highly recommend!

Good bakery stuff… I was the only brown man walking into this place and got a few unwelcome look from the faces of a few old locals folks sitting there and sipping coffee… but hey who cares, this is the land of the free!!!! Good bakery stuff and they also served local handcrafted coffee. Good quick stop if you are heading to Tahoe

So many memories associated with this building and all the bakeries that have graced us with their divine baked goods. I loved going there as a child and high schooler to get mint chocolate brownies for 35 cents at Hilda’s. Then New Dawn Bakery was my favorite place to go when I was diagnosed celiacs and the most delicious lemon squares could be found there.
Today I made a trip to The Baker & the Cakemaker while in town visiting Auburn and was pleasantly surprised to find gluten free brownies, blueberry muffins, cheese puffs and even 8” chocolate raspberry vegan gluten free cake! Amazing texture, moist and delicious! There is a chance of cross contamination though since it is a shared display case. Only the GF/vegan cake was gluten free and dairy free.
Alice comes from a successful restrauranteur family and we went to high school together so it was cool to see her in her element there! I’m excited to order the vegan gluten free cake - just need 2 days notice!

What a quaint and friendly bakery! We were hosting a Harry Potter themed birthday party and I wanted a cake to replicate the one from the first movie. I spoke with Alice at the bakery and they were happy to make it happen! We ordered the vanilla bean latte cake in the custom design and it exceeded our expectations! They followed the inspo picture to a T! The birthday girl loved it too. Thank you, Baker and the Cakemaker!

Their fruit basket cake is absolutely amazing! Every single time I bring it to a party everybody loves it. And I personally do not like cake, but I love this one. Their bread is extremely popular and their sandwiches are really good if your dining in.

Just ate the tastiest ham and cheese croissant here and it was delicious! Also tried their new Apple spice latte with oat milk and it was great. Definitely coming again

Pat a cake, you know how to bake! I loved the tempting variety of latte, roasted eggplant cheese sandwich, and the baker’s cookie for the road. Wow! Everything looked great! It was pleasantly crowded and warmly friendly. Fabulous!

Great lunch stop, more of a California cafe for loaves and lunch fare (and likely homey pastries) than artisanal bakeshop.
Got a delicious pesto sandwich chock full of veg and roasted eggplant. Pesto sauce was moist and seedy.
Panzanella salad with squash, shiitake, daikon was also great, although more greens than bread, and the Asian-inspired flavours were delicious.

Wonderfully good and fresh foods. Perfect balance of ingredients too. Perfect quantity of meat to other ingredients ratio. Fresh breads daily too, for you bread affectionados. Cakes and pastries are very tasty made and change daily too!

The red plum almond muffin was terrific. Ham with Manchego cheese sandwich was very tasteful and delicious. Will definitely go back and try all the other specialty bread ....

This review is for the bread they serve at Whole Foods. Incredible bread! So delicious! So nice to have a local company (auburn) making this amazing bread in a time when it’s almost impossible to find good bread anywhere

Very friendly people, amazing setup (huge pastry oven :) ). Great latte :). Chocolate croissant warmed awesome (what’s available varies fyi).

Delicious sweets, sandwiches, breads and espresso in a small and very busy sit down cafe with counter service.

It’s becoming absurd how many good bakery/coffee shops Auburn has, and this is my new favorite.

Great experience! So grateful I remembered to go in there today. I had a last-minute request for a specialty item. I almost forgot to order a cake for my wife’s birthday, and they specially adjusted some of their pastries for sale to my liking. Well done.

Updated for 2022. I still love this place. It is amazing how their incredible delectables can bring so much fulfillment to our lives in Placer county. Recently tried the chocolate pistachio and raspberry croissant. OMG yummy!- Original post - have traveled all over the U.S. and Europe. At least for the U.S., they easily hands down have the best croissants. The flakiness of all of their savory and sweet croissants is phenomenal and the added ingredients such as the chocolate they use for the chocolate croissant is just delicious. So amazing that these amazing bakers found this small corner of the country to bless us with their wonderful goods.

First off, the smell when you walk inside is like heaven. Fresh breads, pastries and coffee makes me happy. Very kind and courteous staff that helped me choose which pastry I'm going to regret running a few miles for later. I got the cardamom snail, which was just a crispy, chewy, flaky piece of artwork. It went fantastic with my coffee. I've never had the brand, Valiant Coffee before, but it is delicious.

Its a good thing I came in when I did, because they were just putting out the cakes and quiches and that really is my weakness. I did get a few more goodies for my coworkers so I hope they like them as much as I did.

We ordered a cake for my moms birthday - the fruit basket - and it did not disappoint! It was a lovely almond flavor with fresh fruits and whip cream frosting. Delicious! So good, in fact, that we enjoyed it for breakfast the next day with a cup of coffee. When picking up out cake, we did wish we had not just had food as the goodies in the display case looked equally delicious. We will certainly be going back for goodies in the future!

This place has one of my favorite breakfast sandos. The pastries are all amazing. Very cool vibe and great coffee!

Outside of Germany where I was born and raised this place makes the best bread I have ever had and they also deliver to many of the local grocery stores. I need to make it into the store sometime to try their pastries but I have no doubt they are superb. I only wish they made fresh Brötchen. We are very lucky to have such an amazing bakery nearby.
